Re: SEVEN new headdresses up on Etsy!
Mon, August 3, 2009 - 9:37 AMI have a silly question… I see that you have a custom headdress option on etsy.
I am occasionally out shopping, and I see flowers, fabrics, yarns, feathers, etc. that I look at and instantly think "I want a headdress with that." But I have no idea wtf I'm doing with my hair 90% of the time – let alone making a pretty headdress that would stay together.
So what I'm trying to ask… is it possible to get a custom headdress, while also sending you the piece(s) we want included in it? And are there "rules" as far as sizes of feathers, flowers, how the flowers are constructed/ what they're made of ? -

Re: SEVEN new headdresses up on Etsy!
Mon, August 3, 2009 - 12:16 PMI would be picky about you sending me some items. Fabric, for instance, is ok - I can make it any fabric you'd like. However, when it comes to what flowers, etc you put on it -- well, to put it simply, we come across 2 things...(a) ease of sewing them on -- I will NOT hot glue or epoxy this stuff on -- I hand-sew it, so it has durability & longevity; (b) honestly, the look of it. If I'm gonna put my name on it, I don't want dollar-store flowers. Usually with the "custom-orders" you tell me what kind/color fabric you want (or send me some), tell me what type of items (feathers, flowers, etc) you want & what colors, and then maybe end me some trinkets to add to it (broaches, buttons, etc). But I'm very specific on my style, construction & elements that make up the headdress.
I will gladly give you tips on how to construct one yourself - I have no issues whatsoever with that. However, I'm gonna be picky about what I put my name on. Does that make sense? -

Re: SEVEN new headdresses up on Etsy!
Mon, August 3, 2009 - 12:32 PMNo, I totally understand… which is precisely why I asked the question. If I'm gonna be that picky about which flowers I want – rather than what colors they are– you are more than allowed to be picky about what you put your name on.
That may be some of the brick wall I keep running into. Maybe I'm liking the look of flowers that really shouldn't be used… and that's why I can't figure out how to use them.
I'm going to have to put some serious thought into this before I ask more questions. (thought = research) -

Mon, August 3, 2009 - 2:00 PMLOL no worries. Nothing wrong with asking questions. :) btw, if you tell me more about what flowers are catching your eye, I might be able to give you some advice - since I've had some trial-and-error time with them myself. -

Re: SEVEN new headdresses up on Etsy!
Mon, August 3, 2009 - 2:18 PMI can't tell you with any particular specifics right now, other than – they're at Hobby Lobby, in the decorator area, wall vases and whatnot, and there's usually a "branch" that's about 4-3 feet tall of them. In a variety of colors. I don't remember if there's a variety of kinds of flowers on the same branch, or just a "bunch" of the same flower repeated. They're usually big, and not generally "really existing in nature" colors. Like they've been painted. But I never touched them to find out how they're made, what they're made of. (Because I stood back, trying to figure out how I would use them before I touched them… and since I could never figure that out, I didn't bother seeing what they're made of.)
