Bellydance Richmond

moderated - created 01/16/06
African/North African/Middle Eastern dance (a.k.a Belly Dance in Western countries) is a dance of isolation, in which the various parts and centers of the body are moved individually, independently from each other, yet end up forming unity.

Belly dancing is now the hottest new exercise according to the American Council on Exercise. It has evolved from traditional forms to heart-pumping workouts seen in gyms and studios across the country. Belly dancing can be soft on the joints and at the same time be highly energetic and work muscles that most people don’t use with regular workouts. It’s a great opportunity for people to learn about the music and traditions of unfamiliar countries and cultures. It can also give your body a beautiful shape and be an excellent alternative for people who don’t like to run, bike, go to the gym and it is the ultimate expression of femininity as it empowers all women regardless of age, shape, weight, or nationality, to be strong and beautiful.
