Hello Everyone,
My question regards dance and Islam. First and foremost, I hope I do not offend anyone...this is purely to gain knowledge in regards to dance, Islam, inter-cultural norms and transitions as well as transnationalism. In other words, how has feelings and beliefs concerning dance changed? How has it changed in regards to religion and changing times? How has it changed in regards to living in different countries? Etc. Specifically my questions are:
*How is dance viewed within Islam? (Historically? Today? In the future?)
*How is dance viewed in terms of women within Islam?
*Dance as transnational, trans-cultural discourse…your views?
There are no right or wrong answers so please feel free to explore this as I am doing the same. Thank you!
Blessings,
Laura

Sat, November 24, 2007 - 10:54 PMI am not Muslim, but I know and associate with many and your question cannot and does not have one neat and tidy answer. No two muslims are exactly alike. There are different disciplines and groups within just as in any faith and culture. There are clearly conflicts about this and all arts and the viewing of the human form. You can expect many different inputs with many different takes on your question and all of them most probably contain truths and no two will be alike.
