Creative Vibrations, a newly opened cultural arts studio in Astoria, Queens, will hold regular weekly friday night Dance Performance events to promote appreciation for the art of dance (particularly middle-eastern dance) among the public and also to offer a supportive environment for talented dancers to present their work on stage in an artistic (non-food establishment) environment.

The studio is inviting talented dance artists to perform at our friday night dance events. Our next party is scheduled for November 13th, which is this friday, at 7:30pm and there are still a few slots available.

Rosanna returns to Sounthern Ontario after spending 2 years studying and performing in San Francisco. There, she studied with a who's who of bellydance: Suhaila and Jamila Salimpour, FCBD, Jill Parker, Zoe Jakes, Rachel Brice, Mira Betz, Cera Byer, and Amy Sigil. In California, Rosanna also had the opportunity to expand her movement repertoir outside of bellydance, into vinyasa yoga, breakdance, house, and locking. She is known for her unique interpretation of tribal fusion, incorporating elements of vintage jazz dances as well as hip-hop, while referencing traditional styles of Middle Eastern dance. Rosanna continually strives to dance outside of her own box, and fully admits to having dance ADD.

Gerard Valdez, aka G Cue, has been playing his own brand of chunky, funky house in Toronto and surroundings for years and is a major threat on the decks. He is cofounder of Raw Soul and a regular at underground house jams put on by Nine, Boogie Inc., and Bounce. Gerard has been djing for 16 years of his life, learning and being inspired by Toronto locals as well as visiting stars like Mark Farina and Derrick Carter. Gerard has also played Harvest Festival, Promise Cherry Beach parties, Circa, and Footwork, to name just a few of his musical appearances and milestones.

Doors 830pm, First set at 930, Second set at 1030pm. Bring your dancing shoes.

12-2pm: Yoga and fast technique.
Following a vinyasa warmup, we're going to drill drill drill. We'll be working on improving quality and speed of hip and upper body movements and adding footwork. Multiple level options will be given. Bring a towl and be prepared to sweat.

230-430: Technique contin. and flexibility training
More sweating. We will take advantage of our supple, warm muscles to safely and effectively increase our flexibility. We will be discussing techniques and practices specifically for helping those of us who were not born flexible!! Do you stretch and stretch but don't see any improvement? This is for you.

Saturday October 24th (Mad For Dance 263 Adelaide St. West)
1230-230: Fusion, movement invention, and creating choreography
We will be doing a combination of discussion and exercises on fusing dance styles, expanding your movement vocabulary, and creating solo choreography. Participants should bring "ideas in progress" for fusion, movements, and choreographies and be open to group discussion. This workshop is geared for dancers who either want to start performing solo, who want to improve their current solo choreographic work, and also for those who want to break out of using only a specific set of movements.

3-5: Flapper fusion
My dance-baby: a combination of vintage jazz dance and bellydance, completely fabricated from my own imagination. I will be teaching this style as an example of the principles discussed in the earlier workshop. Don't know what on earth this could be? See my video from Tribal Fest 2008:

Sunday October 25th (Mad For Dance 263 Adelaide St. West)
12-2: Funk styles for bellydancers - Funkifying your bellydance and bellydancifying your funk.
We will be going over how to utilize bellydance technique to create illusory effects in popping, contracting different muscle groups to create a hit, breaking down boogaloo rolls in bellydance terminology, and flipping arm waves inside and out. I will also be discussing different dance styles that are commonly performed with popping, and the distinction between popping and locking.

Intensive in Toronto with Rosanna/Cleoflaptra

After a 2 year hiatus from the East Coast, spent training in SF, I'm moving back to the great white north in September. Since its been SOOO long since I've either taught or performed in Toronto and I've done SOOO much since I've been in San Fran, I've decided to pull together an extravaganza eleganza of dance madness. I'm packing in as much as possible into 3 days of teaching, as well as throwing a party with performances by moi, and beats courtesy of 2 of my favourite DJs, Nick McAlister and Gerard Valdez.

ABOUT ALYSSUM POHL…
Hailing from Lexington, Kentucky, Alyssum Pohl brings wit and joy to her performance. A lifelong dancer, she began her study of tribal-style bellydance with Sri Tarasita, director of Rakadu Gypsy, in 1998, and commenced performing with Rakadu three years later. Rakadu, famous for their storytelling and improvisational bellydance, is and has been the perfect fountainhead for Alyssum's performance style. In addition to bellydance, Alyssum is accomplished in yoga, front-bending contortion, rhythm tap, and has many years of training in dance forms from around the world besides. While she lived in New England (2004-2008), she honed her own style of tribal bellydance by incorporating her contortion abilities and sharpening her isolations. She is influenced greatly by her teachers Sri Tarasita and Julie Lively as well as Heather Stants, Mira Betz, and more.

Tribal with attitudes! Add spice to your dance steps... the trancey-ness of North African grooves, the prayerfulness of Indian mudras using hands and poses, the spiciness of Spanish influences using your big skirt with some added sass. We will learn some moves and combos, and then work with a partner or two, changing formations. This is for intermediate/advanced level dancers please.

Tribal Trance: Sunday, April 19th - 2:30-4:00pm
Different ways and methods of using dance, with the tribal belly dance background, for trance and healing. This is your time to explore your dance, free your dance, dance with the elements, dance with your sisters, shake your booty, chant and meditate, a bit or ritual and prayer in the tribal belly dance way! Our free, informal drum circle, which started in January, continues on the fourth Friday of the month, March 27, from 7-8:30 p.m. Participants are asked to bring a drum or other percussion instrument, and melody instruments (such as flute, clarinet, etc.) are also welcome (since melody sounds great with rhythm)

The focus is primarily on African and Mideast rhythms, but all drumming is welcome. There can also be dancing, if space permits. Children should be accompanied by parents.

Cabaret Macabre: Saturday, April 18th - 12:00-2:00pm
Boring dance routines got you down? Are you looking for something to resuscitate your creativity? Well, let Zafira help you breathe life into your dance practice. Drama, musicality and technique are addressed in this workshop. First, we will build several tribal fusion combinations that incorporate contemporary dance with bellydance torso work- focusing on technique and alignment. Then, we will use these combos to experiment with musicality, emotion, and nuanced gestures in order to bring these young Frankensteins to life.

COMBO-Nation!: Saturday, April 18th - 2:30-4:30pm
You Love ‘em. We Love ‘em. Dance Combinations are a great way to pack in technique and signature stylizations in a short workshop timeframe. COMBO-nation will cover tried and true Zafira classic combos that they've used in some of their most popular performances, as well as new and "in the works" combos that'll push you both physically and creatively. Shimmy-TASTIC!: Sunday, April 19th - 12:00-2:00pm
Take your shimmies to the next level! In this workshop we will cover the classic 3/4 shimmy, with walking, layering exercises and drills. We will cover 4/4 shimmies as well, to better understand and get better control of our hips. We will also play with varying shimmies from old to new school styles. To finish off our workshop we'll cover some unique combos utilizing what we learned, Zafira style!

Supah' Saucy: Sunday, April 19th - 2:30-4:30pm
Kicks, spins, long extensions and locks are the signature of Zafira’s current repertoire. This workshop presents some fancy footwork and spins within several dance combinations. Couple these saucy moves with evocative music and emotion, and you are at the core of Zafira’s “steal-your-heart” style of bellydance.

*Be sure to bring water, a light snack, yoga mat or towel, and a few extra dollars to spend in the Souk (vendors will only available on Saturday!).

Technical Tricks to Mechanize your Movement
Experience Level: Intermediate beginner and above.

Inspired by robots, experimental electronic music, and poppin' and lockin', Asharah has integrated mechanical movements into her expressive tribal fusion performances. In this workshop, Asharah will lead students through an intense warm up and then will show students how to break down traditional bellydance movements such as vertical hip figure-8s, shoulder rolls, torso undulations, turns, and arm waves into smaller and sharper parts to give your performances a robotic and creepy edge. After drilling these movements, she'll teach a short combination that demonstrates how these movements can be used in a performance. She'll also briefly discuss concepts of electronic music, how it is created, and how to listen to the nuances of music made by machines and computers.

Integrating Elegant and Technical Movement for Tribal Fusion Bellydance
Experience Level: Intermediate beginner and above.

This workshop will help you refine your technique and add elegance to your bellydance movement. While sharp pops and locks are an essential part of the tribal dancer's repertoire, grace and polish are equally, if not more, important for conveying expression and feeling from the stage to the audience. Asharah will lead students through an intense warm-up that will prepare the body for fluid arm-work, well-defined isolations, and dramatic extension. We will drill smooth bellydance movements (such as arm waves, interior hip circles, and undulations) and hard contraction movements (such as chest locks and hip work in various directions), and Asharah will teach a short combination using these moves in a choreography, emphasizing flow and musical interpretation.

The Newark Arts Alliance is sponsoring a free informal drum circle on Friday, January 23, from 7-8:30 p.m. This may become a monthly event, depending on response.

This event will be moderated by Rebecca. The focus will be primarily on African and Mideast rhythms, but all drumming is welcome. Participants are asked to bring a drum or other percussion instrument, and melody instruments (such as flute, clarinet, etc.) are also invited.

There can also be dancing, if space permits. Children should be accompanied by parents.

Kim Leary (Alexia) is a belly dance performer, choreographer and instructor in Central New Jersey. Her dance accomplishments include teaching both credit and non-credit dance at Princeton University. She is past advisor of (2000-2006) Raks Odalisque, Princeton University's Middle Eastern Dance Company. She is Co-Artistic Director of Groove Merchant Drum & Dance Ensemble and Co-Director of her school, The Drum & Dance Learning Center in Bordentown, New Jersey. Ms. Leary has performed at numerous prestigious venues such as Lincoln Center, The Ohio Theatre (SOHO), CAMI Hall (NYC), DanceSpace (NYC), FIT (NYC), The Evolving Arts Theatre (NYC), The Black Box Theatre (NJ), as well as at many colleges, universities, and festivals as a soloist and with her own dance company, with SaZ Dance Theatre and Jamila Salimpour's Bal Anat. She also has taught regularly at Rutgers University and Middlesex County College.

As an artist-in-residence in various schools throughout the state, her arts-in-education training is from Union County's CATALYST Initiative, Artsgenesis, and the Kennedy Center through the New Brunswick Cultural Center is certified in educational training and development. Kim is a Level 2 Certified Dancer and has been training in the Suhaila Salimpour Format since 2000.
She has studied dance for most of her life and has received extensive training in jazz, ballet, tap, contemporary, Middle Eastern, Turkish and Afro-Caribbean dance.

Philosophy: "A strong foundation of dance movement, belly dance technique, musical understanding and the creative process are the things that drive me. My hope is that each time you see me dance you learn another facet of what is going on creatively for me at that particular moment. Drawing from both Western and Eastern dance forms, Donna continually strives toward finding new ways to express her musicality with both honesty and respect. Although she was raised in various forms of dance including ballet, jazz, modern, and hip-hop, it was bellydance that inspired her to strengthen her connection to music and movement. Donna currently studies Middle Eastern and West African dance at the Drum & Dance Learning Center in Bordentown, NJ, where she is also an instructor and a performance ensemble member. She is working towards Level 2 Certification in the Suhaila Salimpour Format, as well as studying the Gypsy Caravan Tribal Bellydance Format through the Collective Soul Certification Program.

Her passion for dance drives her innovative expression of music, but it is her love of music that reminds her to seek knowledge and inspiration from all forms of dance. New to New York

Hello all you fabulous dancers!
My name is Zaria and I just recently moved to the city, Manhattan to be specific. I used to dance way up in Northern California. I have been dancing since i was 3, mostly classical ballet although I have been enjoying the wonderful world of Belly Dance the last 5 of them. I joined a performance group back home and was so happy every time i stepped out onto the scene to perform. Now that I have moved (in order to attend school) I have been itching to dance/perform but I am having trouble finding good and close dance teacher, or possible troupe to join. If anyone could help me I would be ecstatic! I love performing and even one or two shows a month would be great with me. I appreciate any help you can give me! Thank you so much everyone!

Feel free to contribute more to the fund because we all know how important ‘the girls’ are to our community.

Just when you thought the Halloween parties were over…we will be throwing (a week late) a party celebrating ‘ Los Dias De Los Muertos ‘ (Day of the Dead) to celebrate life and our community. This will be a very special Hafla featuring performances by our community, a drum circle, a photographer, videographer, DJ, vendors and games.

Performances: Open to everyone in the community, beginner to pro. We’d like to do 20 acts max. Performance time should not to exceed 5 minutes (we love you all and would like to see more of you but we want to fit as many acts in as we can). Plus we have one small requirement…..Fringe Benefit (NJBD’s host troupe) would like to see YOUR twist. Do a song or style you have always wanted to do, better yet, team up with another soloist or troupe that you have always wanted to dance with. Let loose have fun and please…keep it in a manner that is PG. No fire guys…but feel free to get creative with other props. Contact us ASAP (and we mean ASAP) via our web site if you would like to perform. ~Just a few spots left!

We are proud to have Anka Kusu providing the music for our drumming circle. They are fabulous and we know you will enjoy them!

We will have a professional photographer coming in to do photographs. She has done photography for all styles of dance and sporting events and currently owns her own studio here in NJ that is very well known. She will be available for the performances and for individual portraits by request. Details to follow.

We are looking for a videographer for performances. Step forward if you are interested and can promise a professional quality video. The Videographer will deal with the performers directly negotiating costs for taping. Cost to us is $25 (admission included); the rest of the profit is yours.

We also are in need of a DJ. We have some equipment but need someone available for the performances and to spin music to rock out to thru out the evening. If you agree to volunteer, you will get in free and we will shower you with adoration and affection…we may even make you your favorite dish.

Vendors…we need vendors…we have unlimited room for vendors (that’s how big this place is!). Cost will be $25 for a table (admission included in price) and you are alleviated from the burden of bringing any food…unless, of course, you want to. ;)

What performance do you feel had the most interesting or unique twist? Audience choice, winners will receive a very special prize.

Family Dance:
So you think you can dance huh? Well let’s see if your significant other can shake it in a coin scarf? Daring partners are invited up to the stage at some point in the night to see if they have been paying attention all these years. Children are welcome too! Let’s see who has the most talented family!

Limbo contest:
How low can you go baby? Worked hard for that flexibility…show it off and win a prize!

Finally: A ballot will be available for participants to fill out. We want to know who should be applauded on ’08. Vote for your favorite (instructor, performer, promoter, vendor, restaurant, musician etc) in NJ and the tri-state. Nominees in each category will be posted in our NJ Tribe for final voting. Winners will be published on our web site.

Najib has been playing the darbouka since age 9. He studied at the Tunisian Conservatory & has accompanied numerous renowned Arabic musicians & singers during his career. Experience Level: Intermediate beginner and above.
This workshop will help you refine your technique and add elegance to your bellydance movement. While sharp pops and locks are an essential part of the tribal dancer's repertoire, grace and polish are equally, if not more, important for conveying expression and feeling from the stage to the audience. Asharah will lead students through an intense warm-up that will prepare the body for fluid arm-work, well-defined isolations, and dramatic extension. We will drill smooth bellydance movements (such as arm waves, interior hip circles, and undulations) and hard contraction movements (such as chest locks and hip work in various directions), and Asharah will teach a short combination using these moves in a choreography, emphasizing flow and musical interpretation.

"Between The Veils" with Tempest - 2:15-4:15pm (2 hours!)
Discover the darker side of veilwork, from dramatic entrances, intricate and intimate veilplay, to exiting with a flourish that will leave 'em wanting more. Learn to truly dance with your veil and tame it's inner cat, see it as a partner and not a prop. We'll cover proper veil technique, fusion movements and accents, pros and cons of materials and presentations, and making effective use of your veil. Be sure to bring at least one three yard veil-rectangular or circular. Can be silk, chiffon, or other light, flowing material. All levels welcome.

belly dance bra and elt for sale

This is a hand made costume. Both bra and belt are lined. The bra will fit a 34 C. The bra is very sturdy will hold it's shape well.
This costume will work great for new students, hobbyist, class recitals, parties photos and performances.
This is an original one of a kind costume. May see photos in my pics on page 1.

The bra will fit a 34 C. The bra cups are covered in a pink colored fabric with pink bugle beads sewn into the fabric. The bra is trimmed in a gold sequin gimp trim. The bra has beaded fringe made from pink seed beads that hangs about 4 3/4 inches long in groups of three .The neck straps are about 34 inches long and tie in a criss cross manner with D rings. The side panels are covered in a pink color velvet fabric(as well as the neck straps I would like to add) The side panels have D rings attach to the ends to add closure for the bra. The is bra is lined and very sturdy will hold it's shape.

The belt is cover in the same pink beaded fabric and gold trim as the bra cups. . The belt is one piece and is a tie front as if it were a hip sash . (has a bit more weight to it than a hip sash) The belt has an elastic casing in the back that can be gather to help with a better fit around the hips for a dancer with curves. The belt is 35 inches long. The belt will fit a small to medium . the belt can be sized down before I send it if you would like it smaller. The fringe is made from pink colored seed beads like on the bra and is about 5 3/4 inches long. This is a nice set sparkles well in light and good movement with the fringe Email with any questions and more photos. "Sigil School" - 12:00-2:00pm - Get a behind-the-scenes look at the teaching format of Amy Sigil in this interactive split session with UNMATA. In the first half of class, Amy will share her experience, ideas, and dance doctrine—as well as answer your questions. In the second half of class, you will get on your feet for a Sigil School whirlwind demonstration. Tag words: warm-ups, transitions, music, mixes, tempo, choreography, common vocab, work, craft, drill, team, time, counting, working backwards, notes, repetition, fellowship, and yes, you will sweat!

"HOTPOTTURBOTRIBALTRICKS" - 2:30-4:30pm - Strap-on your jet-packs. In this workshop you'll get the skinny on what happens when you let off a lot of steam while dancing really good, really fast. You'll learn and drill two original combos snatched directly from the Hot Pot Studio tribal vocabulary, both equipped for improv and ready for show. You will have fun. You will sweat. You will be inspired. And after class when you're sore and on the floor, remember, "Horsepower" is defined as work done over time. We just teach you the tricks.

Sunday, July 13:

"UNMATA au naturel" - 12:00-1:30pm - This multi-level workshop will outline two tribal fusion combinations emphasizing technique and isolation. The first combination will incorporate the building blocks of UNMATA's modern bellydance style. The second combination will focus primarily on the Hula Fusion nuance. Each movement will be outlined within a tribal cueing system so that it may be added to any troupe's choreography or tribal vocabulary. Amy will describe and drill each individual movement, then fasten them together into an accessible tribal combo that will be practiced in useful group and duet formations.

"Overlaying Isolations, Amy Sigil Style" - 2:00-3:30pm - Amy's Art of Overlay is at the heart of this intermediate to advanced belly dance workshop aimed to add expressive layers and distinction to your dance style. Although controlled simultaneous movement is a complex idea, this class provides a simple approach certain to bring impressive results. Beginning with a thorough breakdown of basic isolation technique, Amy will expand such elements as core strength and relaxed tension, and then demonstrate helpful exercises that are necessary to develop an awareness needed to isolate key muscle groups. Then she will teach and drill an isolation combo that incorporates the artistic flare unique to Amy Sigil and UNMATA. Because this class is designed for the intermediate to advanced dancer, a sufficient understanding of balance and timing is prerequisite.

Cost: Single class = $35 / Full day = $65 / Full weekend = $120

These concepts will be fully broken down using short combinations as examples so the student is able to get a real understanding of the mechanisms behind them.

We will incorporate other elements into spins and kicks, drawing a wee bit from tango, Ballet and Classical indian Kathak, exploring things like leg extension and stomping. Lots of focus on quick spins as well, basic exercises for turning techniques, and how to train yourself to stop on a dime, which always looks impressive. Spotting basics, as well as non spotted turns, will be covered, and techniques for using legs and arms to initiate a turn.

In this workshop Sadie will take you through a series of exercises and drills that will break down ther technique and her drum solo secrets like "Pops" and "Locks" to help you develop sharper more defined isolations necessary for fast drum solo choreographies.

Noon: "DIVA WITHIN"
We all have a stage presence. Does yours say what you want it to? Learn how to own your stage and command an audience. There really are tips and techniques for making this possible. Clearly convey your emotions and set a mood, reach your audience, exchange energy, learn about your most powerful tools for accomplishing these tasks…..like your eyes and your body language! Learn how levels, spatial planes and different areas of the body when focalized, automatically set a feeling.

Brazilian Samba is one of Sadie and Kaya's most requested classes and workshops. This workshop will break down some of the most popular moves and foot patterns in the Samba noPe`, the soloist dance seen at Rio's Carnaval and in many night clubs in Brazil, as well as many of the traditional Afro-Brazilian movements and add them together in exciting choreography or short combinations. We are a community of pioneers, banded together to support each other in expanding and exploring the boundaries of the dancer’s body. Ultimately, these explorations are directed at nothing less than a paradigm shift, toward a society in which size diversity is celebrated, not feared.

BigMoves was founded in 2000 by Marina Wolf Ahmad, a plus-size dancer who wanted to create community, training opportunities, and
performances for herself and other dancers who otherwise were left out of the dance mainstream. The organization began operations in the San Francisco Bay Area, and expanded to Boston in January 2005, and to New York in May of 2006. These three areas have their own branches of Big Moves, and Boston additionally is the home base for a touring company that reaches to Montréal, Philadelphia, Washington DC, as well as other locations along the East Coast.

BigMoves is award-winning. Internationally award-winning. Our revival
of Gargantua got rave reviews from audiences and thumbs-up from the critics, and we brought back the prestigious Spirit of the Fringe award from the Montréal Fringe Festival in June. Alexia (Kim Leary) is a performer, choreographer and instructor in Central New Jersey. Her dance accomplishments include teaching both credit and non-credit dance and advising Raks Odalisque, Middle Eastern Dance Company at Princeton University. She is Co-Director of her school, The Drum & Dance Learning Center in Bordentown, New Jersey. Ms. Leary has performed at numerous prestigious venues such as Lincoln Center, The Ohio Theatre (SOHO), CAMI Hall (NYC), DanceSpace (NYC), FIT (NYC), The Evolving Arts Theatre (NYC), The Black Box Theatre (NJ), as well as at many colleges, universities, and festivals as a soloist and with her own dance company, SaZ Dance Theatre, Jamila Salimpour’s Bal Anat and Dalia Carella’s DNA Project. She also teaches regularly at Rutgers University and Middlesex County College and has been an artist-in-residence throughout the New York/New Jersey tri-state area.

Kim has studied dance for most of her life and has received extensive training in jazz, ballet, tap, contemporary, Middle Eastern, Turkish and Afro-Caribbean dance.

Ava Fleming:
With her extensive knowledge and experience in international dance

demand for her practice of Raks Sharqi. Her focus on isolations and

Kami Liddle:

Samantha Riggs:
Samantha Riggs is the Founder, Artistic Director, Choreographer and Lead

Circus in Tempe, Arizona, and is a performer with Fyrae fire arts
troupe. She was the assistant director as well as a core dancer,

Aubre has been studying movement her entire life, everything from Bellydance, Jazz, Tap, Hiphop, Social dance, Ballet, Musical Theatre, Pilates, and Yoga. She is a lifelong student of Suhaila Salimpour and teaches bellydance technique based on the Suhaila format. The blend of her influences creates a strong basis for dynamic and innovative performances and teaching. With over 14 years of teaching experience and a broad background of movements, she gives her students the tools they need to progress and grow. With years of experience in jazz and the world of musical theatre, she passes along key elements to creating artistic and intriguing performances. Her classical Pilates training greatly influenced her own practice and thus the work she could offer her students, including injury prevention and rehabilitation.

Aubre is on faculty at California State University, Los Angeles teaching accredited bellydance and Pilates classes as well as teaches a full bellydance program at The Center of Worldance. All dance levels welcome. The class is designed for those who study other styles of bellydance other than Egyptian.
The focus will be on basic Egyptian style movements that will be used in the stick dance choreography.
Handouts for the choreography will be provided along with a brief description of basic drum rhythms

(A limited number of sticks will be made available for use during this workshop. If you wish, you can purchase a simple dowel at Wal-Mart (about 3/4 inch) and decorate it with colored tape or ribbon as you please. )

Dancer Beware

I just want to put a statement out to NJ area Belly Dancers.

There is a person who titles himself a director who every couple of years approaches the belly dance community looking for dancers to be in his productions. Currently I hear he is using my name, telling people he knows me, implying that I have worked with or that I endorse him. I DO NOT nor have I ever worked with this person and I DO NOT endorse his ideas.

Please, if anybody ever uses me as a reference I encourage you to be in touch with me so I can confirm. It's good practice to check references no matter who it is.

The Belly Dance Project (model call)

My current obsession is belly dance and as a fanatically visual person, I'm most drawn to the visual aspects of it. So what a better way to immerse myself in a world of tassels and coins than to start a new photography project? (Cause you know, I need more things to keep me busy heh) Thus, my current goal is to take classic, painting-like portraits of belly dancers in full regalia, particularly of the American Tribal Style and Tribal Fusion persuasions, in the hopes of publishing them in a book entitled Faces of Belly Dance (not set with the title yet though).
Suffice to say, I need subjects!

Slow it down, listen to your body and the music, incorporating levels and some floor work (bring kneepads). *intermediate/advance level*

Saturday - Faster Moves - 3:30-5:30pm
Step it up for punch and energy- listening to the music, playing zils, using the space, moving with a partner (bring zils). *intermediate/advance level*

Sunday - Tribal Styling - 12:00-4:30pm (includes 1/2 hour break)
Add spice to your dance--Indian mudras, Spanish influences, Tribal groves with attitude (wear a big skirt). *intermediate/advance level*

I have dates for EEMED 2008! And I am happy to announce, we will be returning to the Electric Lodge Theatre in Venice!

Do you have works that cannot be presented at traditional Middle Eastern dance venues? Are there political, social, or economical issues you would like to explore through the dance? Then submit your work for the 2008 "An Evening of Experimental Middle Eastern Dance (EEMED)."

EEMED is one of the most innovative Middle Eastern dance concerts in the United States with videos sold worldwide.

In this workshop, you will learn the proper hand/finger techniques to produce clean beautiful sounds from your doumbek. You will learn how to play several traditional Middle Eastern rhythms as well as how to switch between them.
This workshop is perfect for beginners or experienced drummers who want to brush up or clean up their technique.
This workshop is also fantastic for dancers who want to educate themselves about the basic rhythms.

You know a bunch of rhythms...now what? Let's get "Beyond Baladi". You will learn practical rhythm combinations useful for playing songs and making your drum circle more fun.
