10a.m.: "DRUM SOLO SECRETS"
Sadie is known world wide for her awesome drum solo technique and choreographies. She has been featured on many performance and instructional videos displaying her unique skill. In this workshop Sadie will take you through a series of exercises and drills that will break down ther technique and her drum solo secrets like "Pops" and "Locks" to help you develop sharper more defined isolations necessary for fast drum solo choreographies.

Noon: "DIVA WITHIN"
We all have a stage presence. Does yours say what you want it to? Learn how to own your stage and command an audience. There really are tips and techniques for making this possible. Clearly convey your emotions and set a mood, reach your audience, exchange energy, learn about your most powerful tools for accomplishing these tasks…..like your eyes and your body language! Learn how levels, spatial planes and different areas of the body when focalized, automatically set a feeling.

The shimmy is the dancers' fingerprint. No two people will shimmy the same. Are you ready to develop your signature shimmy? This workshop will cover the many variations of shimmies as well as add some exciting layers. It's a great workout and enhances coordination. Shimmy combos or choreography will be taught if time is allotted. Get ready to sweat!

12 - 1 LUNCH (On Your Own)

1-2:30pm: “VEIL CHOREOGRAPHY”
Once you learn how to play with and facilitate the veil, you'll be able to put it all together in a beautiful veil choreography.

2:45 - 4:15pm: "AFRO-BRAZILIAN / SAMBA"
Brazilian Samba is one of Sadie and Kaya's most requested classes and workshops. This workshop will break down some of the most popular moves and foot patterns in the Samba noPe`, the soloist dance seen at Rio's Carnaval and in many night clubs in Brazil, as well as many of the traditional Afro-Brazilian movements and add them together in exciting choreography or short combinations. This was posted last night by a creepazoid named Vaughnster or ''Lord Vaghuan'', who has been in and kicked out of many online groups, in this case, it was posted through another person in my Yahoo! Bellyrolling females group (and God knows how many other Yahoo! groups in particular). This guy has a bellydance fetish, at least in my opinion, that goes way out-of-bounds, and this posting, which I deleted this AM as soon as I went through it, proves that point (pay attention to the last couple of sentences):

The Vaughanster' s Bellydance Video Conte$t!

To enter, prepare a bellydance video just for me. To prove it's just
for me, introduce yourself to me, addressing me as "Lord Vaughan"
or "Vaughanster" , and giving the date right before beginning to
perform.
I'm not setting a time limit, but I recommend that you belly dance
for at least twenty minutes. Save the video on DVD or VHS. I have a
multi-system VCR, TV and DVD player, so format shouldn't be an issue.

If you win, you will need to provide an address to send the prize
money to. I prefer to pay via PayPal, in which case, I would only
need the e-mail address associated with the PayPal account you want

Do NOT submit an entry until February, 2007, since I will still be in
Afghanistan in January, and may not receive it!
There is no limit to the number of entries one dancer may submit, but
I will regard each entry separately, on its own merits. In other
words, I won't simply award 1st Place to the dancer who sends me the
most entries or the most footage; I'll choose the three videos I like
the best, and award the prizes accordingly. Yes, it's possible (but
not likely) that I may award all three prizes to the same dancer, if
she sends me the best three entries.

There are no "holds barred" in this contest. Anyone, of any age,
from any country, with any amount of experience, is welcome to submit
as many entries as they like. The winning entries will be the ones I
find myself watching over and over the most.

The following are not requirements, but merely recommendations, since
I've been watching belly dance videos for a quarter of a century, and
already know what I like and don't like:

1. Camera work:

A. Use the best quality of video equipment and material
available to you.
B. Avoid cutting, panning, zooming, and special effects.
Especially avoid cutting. Set the camera up at what would be eye-
level for a man sitting down, and let it roll. Try to create the
illusion that you're performing for me in person, that I'm sitting
still, and the camera is my unblinking eyes.

2. Costume:

A. The most important part of your costume is your body. It
should appear trim and fit.
B. The lower you wear your belt on your hips, the better.
C. Coordinate colors and styles, including the background and
lighting. Performing in ancient attire at a modern gym would
probably look tacky.

3. Dancing

A. Avoid traveling steps.
B. Avoid pointing your bum at the camera.
C. Usually, if not always, your navel should be the focal point
of the camera.

Hi, my name is Carrie. I live in Alaska, and run a tribal troupe in Anchorage called Gypsy Underground. I work for a company (IWI Inc.) that has a home office in Turlock, CA.
The Co. is flying me down there soon for some extra training, and I was hoping to find some fellow dancers to maybe go out to dinner or drinks with.
If anybody wants to hang out with me that would be just super! And if nobody wants to hang out you can just say maybe....that belly dancing has been outlawed in Turlock, and therefor I'm SOL! hehhe ;-) I just can't bear the thought of staying in my hotel every night........

The 2nd Annual San Gregorio Raks Hafla, July 23rd, from 2-5pm.

Come join in the fun! The Second Annual San Gregorio Raks Hafla is to be held at The San
Gregorio General Store (http://www.sangregoriostore.com), from 2-5pm, on
Sunday afternoon, July 23rd. If you are interested in dancing, please contact me as soon as possible.

Music can be up to 13 minutes long and must be on a CD.

I'd love to have several vendors this year so if anyone is interested in vending one of the
following:
Belly dance-street wear, e.g., big skirts, cholis, etc.
Ethnic jewelry, such as Afghani-type stuff
Henna Artists (two would be nice)
ME food

The Store is not charging a space fee for tables.
Vendors will be responsible for bringing their own tables, table-dressings, etc. for their displays
and all vendors will be outside in front of The Store (no electricity). The Store is asking for 20% of
any business vendors do.

This venue is great and this event is well advertised, so look for the announcement in the
Half Moon Bay Review. The dancers at this event and are allowed 50% off any merchandise in The Store, as
well as free drinks and food.

The San Gregorio General Store is located at the intersections of Hwy 84 and Stage Road, just
1-mile inland from the intersections of Hwy 1 and Hwy 84.

I hope you can join me in putting on a fun and enjoyable event this year. I look forward to
hearing from you. Please let me know if you are interested in dancing or vending by June 30th.

I'm trying to locate a Kristina R Hathaway from Mountain View that purchased a long sleeve black shirt from my booth at Tribal Fest on Saturday the 21st. I was vending outside right on the corner of the grass near the Youth Annex (on the corner of the grass by the flower bushes) in front of the outside stage, we were selling the Gypsy Threads 'sword girl' and 'shiva girl' tanks, tees and long sleeve shirts as well as my spiky shell creations and porcupine quills. If anyone can pass this message on to this lady I would really appreciate it, it is VERY important that I get in touch with her immediately, thanks!

Basically, they announce the designer (me) and then the model (you) would walk onto center stage. Stand, turn around, and show off the tank you are wearing. They would be talking about the tank while you are doing this (~20 seconds) and then walk off. THAT'S IT!

Thursday Nights at Louden Nelson 8-9:30pm
All levels technique class with using finger cymbals
for those who whish to use them. Class includes a
warm up, drills, combination, and cool down.
Fundamentals of Arabic music also taught along side
instruction of the dance. The class currently includes

beginners as well as advanced performers.

Friday morning at Masala Imports 10-11:15am
Finger Cymbal Drum Solo. This class will be bridging
the
gap between delivery of a well put together drop solo
and playing zills on top of the rhythms. The music
used
is primarily in a 6/8 time; along with some 4/4.The
class
will start slowly and build on information learned in
the
beginning of the series. There must be some prior
technique knowledge or other concurrent class/private
lesson taken.

Class is only 8 weeks long.
Cost: drop-in 13$/class card 45$= 4 classes

The next series in October will be an improvisation
and
performance class. The    focus will be directed to
women
who want to be performing but who have no idea where
to
start. Or for those who have already been performing

want to work on advancing to a new level of artistry

skills
that ultimately will get them paid more at gigs as
well as
increase the depth of professionalism and art. We are
discussing everything from how to prepare/train before

a gig, to music interpretation, to improvisation
techniques.
You will come out of the 6-week workshop with a
greater
understanding    and appreciation of local and
international
belly dance culture and dance as    a trade/art form.

There will be more information given upon registration
for
drum solo, technique, or the performance class.

Kathy Stahlman will be teaching ATS technique and combos on August 14, Bay'la Zena is teaching Stage presence on August 21, and both Luna and Nanna will be teaching on August 28th.
