“Classical Egyptian Technique and Combinations” - Take your dancing to the next level with challenging hip technique that will enhance your performance. Focusing on personal style and music interpretation, each dancer will bring out their “dance personality” and put it to use in each dance combination. Special attention to body language and facial expression will take place in this unique class, with exercises to help dancers unleash new ways of interpreting the music.

"Reaching New Heights” - Bozenka will give each student specialized attention on transitions, execution of movement, aesthetics, and musicality (what Bozenka likes to refer to as (T.E.A.M.). To take your dancing to a higher level, awareness of all these elements is essential. Let Bozenka guide you through exercises (dance combinations) that will help you project better posture, strengthen your articulation of movements and put a spark into every performance. This challenging class will also incorporate improvisation to unleash self-expression and will focus on musicality.

Sunday:

“Latin/Arabic Fusion Combinations By Bozenka” - Learn how to put your Salsa, Cha-Cha and more into your belly dancing. This moderately paced class will teach you simple and flavorful combinations to incorporate a Latin dance flare into your own dance routine.

“Facial Expressions and Body Language” - This is one of Bozenka’s most popular workshops among dancers who are at an advanced level but is encouraged for dancers of all levels. This workshop focuses on the interpretation between Dancer and Music as well as the communication between Dancer and Audience. Bozenka uses creative methods to encourage dancers to interpret the feelings caused by the music and to learn to convey those feelings to the audience. Dancers learn how appropriate body language and using facial expressions take their performance to a higher level. This workshop is recommended for groups of less than 50 participants.

Fantasy event to kick off ConCarolinas (Charlotte NC)

I hope you don't mind me posting this here, but since I'm not just a pirate but a bellydancer as well, and I know how many of us love to read. It'd be great to see my dance friends at this event!

Joseph Beth Books will host a fantasy panel on Wednesday, May 28, beginning at 7 pm, to kick off ConCarolinas. The panel features Faith Hunter (the Rogue Mage series), Gail Z Martin (Chronicles of the Necromancer) and Misty Massey (Mad Kestrel), who will be discussing fantasy and answering questions from readers, and signing their books. Folk Tours Musice and Dance Camp

I know everyone around here enjoys the Carmine and Karim workshops, well both of them, and a whole lot more instructors, will be at the Folk Tours Music and Dance Camp in Eastern PA the last weekend in May. I know it's a bit of a drive from Charlotte, but it's WAY worth the trip!!! The caliber of dancers and musicians at this camp is hard to beat. The food is great and the band alone is worth the price of admission!

In this workshop, you will learn the proper hand/finger techniques to produce clean beautiful sounds from your doumbek. You will learn how to play several traditional Middle Eastern rhythms as well as how to switch between them.

Begintermediate Doumbek:
You know a bunch of rhythms...now what? Let's get "Beyond Baladi". You will learn practical rhythm combinations useful for playing songs and making your drum circle more fun. Spirit of the Lotus had a fabulous recital with lots of AWESOME energy. I enjoyed dancing and being a part of such a great group. All my family really enjoyed seing all of us, my dad commented on how great we all looked. There was an awesome positive energy.

OK ladies... and gentlement, Bellydance of Charmeck is sponsering a fundraiser for Beledi Beat. We are going to have a costuming workshop, trying to keep costs low for you ladies cause I don't know about ya'll but i'm financially challenged these days. This is open to anyone interested at any skill level. I need to know some things from everyone,
1. Is a saturday or a Sunday preferable??? (note that this may be dependent upon available space but we will try to find a happy medium)
2., Does anyone have any classes they would like taught or instructors that would teach, I have a few but still have some open spots.
3. Would you prefer to pay extra for lunch included or eat out? I can have it catered but it will cost extra.

Sofram's Turkish Restaurant

On Thursday nights the Magic Hips Dancers are dancing at Sofram's located in Pineville on Rte 51. The sets are at 7:30 and 8:30. Last night we went to support Alicia at her Restaurant debut! As always, it is a joy to watch Alicia dance. She was stunning!

For those of you who have been to Sofram's before, they have made more space in the restaurant and redecorated. They put up a small stage in the center for the dancer to dance on. (You might recognize it....it is the old wood platform that the instructors stood on at Yasmine's - must decorate it!!) The menu has changed some but they still have their signature dishes. Everything is delicious and the prices are VERY reasonable.

Next Thursday let's all go out and support Shayda (Leanne, owner of the Belly Dance Shop and a Magic Hips dancer) as she has her Restaurant debut! *****Don't get mad Shayda - I told you I would post this!*****

Would you be interested in a monthly meet up...

I know we have some local area hafla's and such, who would be interested in a pot luck/grill out hafla or a drumming circle?

I would love to see all the drummers in the community come out, I know that for a lot of loved ones it's a way to be involved and it has a community all of it's own. Maybe people could showcase new stuff they have been working with. This could be at a house or at a local bellydance spot.

Do you think if it was done regularly you wold be more likely to show up?
how about including your loved ones?
What sort of things would you like to see at a local hafla or dumming circle?
Would you be interested in hosting one at your place or participating in the organization of one?

So what's in your library? compile a list of what you have and those your willing to part with and email it to me, maybe we can work out some sort of exchange program, if you have any ideas, that would be cool too... otherwise we could just collect video's that are collecting dust you don't want anymore, charge a couple bucks (payable to the owner) rental fee and let people check them out as needed.

I thought maybe I would post a topic related to why I started this tribe, what I want out of it. Bellydance for me is a community of friends that I can be open with and myself among. Out of this tribe I would love to see a community strengthened and friendships developed. I would love to see more of my bellydance people on a regular basis and find time in my daily life for each of you, well maybe weekly, you guys know how much I take on, lol. I would also like to have more opportunities to dance.

Well, we have all had a lot going on and I thought that we could all use a place of sanity to come to find people that just wanted to chill and develop a community of bellydancers supporting each other. Here is that place, feel free to come by, have a chat, organize your own hafla or get together, maybe post an event your going to and want other bellydancers to go with you... Who knows where we could take this but with new studios and branching out I wanted to make sure we all had the opportunity to stay in touch and be the family i have grown to know and love promoting events from all studios, individuals and so forth so unfold your wings and stay a while... Post questions, ideas and so forth. This is a place for family and love of dance. I look forward to sharing my sanity with each and everyone of you because your all where I get it from.
