Re: Spanx?
Wed, March 11, 2009 - 10:37 AMi have not used them myself, but by the looks i'm guessin they're nude tone or buff spandexy undies for streamlining. lets say your going to wear a dress that is a smooth satin drape or even kinda huggy, if your undies are tight then you'll probably get some panty lines or muffin top. however if you wear the Spanx from just below the bust to knees you'll get smooth goodness from top to bottom. i bet there good for those of us that want to hide stretch marks in those tummy bearing outfits, or keep the muffin in our belt rather than over. hope that helped :) -

Re: Spanx?
Wed, March 11, 2009 - 12:55 PMSort of, I was considering buying one for just that, "tummy bearing outfits". My only concern is whether it would actually be too tight or have unattractive seams. That is why I was wondering if anyone has actually tried them out for dance.
I probably should have been more clear, I was just having so much trouble posting that I kept it simple and short. -

Re: Spanx?
Wed, March 11, 2009 - 2:23 PMThey're fabulous under clothes, but I don't think they'd be so great exposed. They're not sheer. They're actually an opaque fabric (at least mine is) that is *obviously* not your skin. Not so much like a mesh tummy cover. For the price, I would just invest in an actual mesh tummy cover for dancing.

Re: Spanx?
Wed, March 11, 2009 - 1:12 PMI've worn them under regular dresses, most notably under a bridesmaid's dress. A nice product if you remember to tuck the waistband up under your bra so it doesn't roll down during the day.
You can find them at Lane Bryant, Target, and Nordstrom, rather than just having to buy them online.

Re: Spanx?
Wed, March 11, 2009 - 4:17 PMI bought Spanx "All the way with leg support stockings for plus-sized" and it was a waste. The first time I tried to put them on I could barely get it past mid thigh and one of my fingers tore a hole in the stupid thing as I tried to take them off. They were like any other stocking, really long and narrow. But since I'm not tall with big thighs it didn't work for me.

Re: Spanx?
Fri, March 13, 2009 - 10:01 AMYeah that happened to me. I could barely get them up and then as soon as I thought I was done they tore. I took them back and Lane Bryant gave me a new pair. The second pair were great. They were the same size, but fit better for some reason. I wouldn't wear them to show as they have a large seam up the middle and look like what they are. -

Re: Spanx?
Fri, March 13, 2009 - 10:48 AMlol that is a pretty compelling argument against.

Re: Spanx?
Mon, March 16, 2009 - 2:54 PMI've worn the, and they're good, but there's comparable products out there as far as effect that are much cheaper. I've been much happier with a high-waist support garment (that goes up to 4 or 5x, iirc) that I bought at Wal-Mart than I was with the Spanx, and the Wally World version were about half the cost and much sturdier.

Re: Spanx?
Fri, June 12, 2009 - 10:35 PMfor a smaller waist would it be possible to cut a section from a "queen size" leg of pantyhose to use as a tummy cover? I have no idea if this would work, but I have an idea that I would like to try:
I love the look that tattos add to tribal costume, but am not ready to go under the needle just yet, and don't have a local henna artist just yet.
my idea is to stretch the stocking over a covered/protected form, and use permanent ink to trace on a tattoo inspired design. That way I would be able to achieve that gorgeous tatoo look, but not be comitted to it, and be able to change it/decorate different ones for different costumes....
what do you think? -

Re: Spanx?
Fri, June 12, 2009 - 11:22 PMI think it's a stupendous idea but I doubt a cut pantyhose leg would work unless you could figure out a way to keep it from running without losing the stretch. There are bodystockings you can buy that will have the look you want without the concern. -

Re: Spanx?
Sat, June 13, 2009 - 12:26 AMThat would be great for a performance worthy costume piece, but I was thinking cheapo wal-mart pantyhose for a trial run, so I dont ruin a good piece of fabric with my crazy idea, in case it runs when I sweat, or it looks too much like a fake... -

Re: Spanx?
Sat, June 13, 2009 - 11:19 AMwell... that might happen if you used permanent ink but I have actually seen it done. My guess would be either it was actual fabric paint or some type of embroidery/beading. Why don't you test if on a pair of thigh highs and just dance in them and see what happens? If it works you have some really cool stockings to boot.

Re: Spanx?
Thu, July 16, 2009 - 7:53 PMTarget sells a similar, less expensive brand, called ASSETS. I have a pair of pantyhose and the footless tights. I love them. I would wear them under a dress, but I mostly wear them under my street clothes.
