Cross Post: Spandex and Applique??

topic posted Fri, April 25, 2008 - 5:26 PM by  offlineCandace
You know all of those fabulous Egyptian costumes/dresses that use spandex/stretch material? How do you sew on the beaded/sequined applique? Is this a two person deal? Dancer tries the dess on, friend pins the applique, then take the dress off??? People, help me please :)

Thanks!

If you are having trouble positioning an applique, friends can certainly help, or you can chalk in (or use dissapearing fabric marker) where you want the center & ends of an applique, but I usually just mark center front, center back and side/hip & eyeball it from there. I also use a stabilizer on the other side of the fabric for extra strength & stability. make sure the stretch fabric is strong enough for the amount of applique you will be using & reinforce as necessary!
    Good luck!
