Where either photos or drawings are used and each pic shows the country and time period with maybe some info about the type of dance performed in the type of costume? Info about how religion influenced it's appearance or disappearance as a fad for the time? I know I'm stretching here. I would like to find a big book like this.&lt;/div&gt;

&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The Bellydanceshoppe is having a sale on veils, and since I don't have a silk veil, I was thinking of splurging on one. I was wondering if anyone here has ordered silk veils from them, and might be able to tell me what they're like in terms of quality. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;(This would be a practice/learning veil, not for a performance, so it doesn't need to be the most gorgeous thing *ever*. It's also why I'd rather spend $20 on it rather than $70.)&lt;/div&gt;

&lt;br/&gt;This is a hand made costume. Both bra and belt are lined. The bra is very sturdy will hold it's shape well.The bra will fit a 32-34 A/B. This costume will work great for new students, hobbyist class recitals, parties, Goth night, belly fusion, photos, and performances. 
&lt;br/&gt;This is an original one of a kind costume. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The bra will fit a 32-34 A/B. The bra is covered in a teal velvet panne' fabric. The bra is trimmed in a brown gimp trim about an inch wide, . Beneath the trim is a row of the tribal metal fringe. At the center of the bra is button ornament with a few dangle. The side panels and the straps are made from the same fabric that covers the bra cups. The bra ties across the back kris- cross with D-rings. The bra straps are 37 inches long. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The belt is cover in the same fabric as the bra.This belt 35 inches long not including the tie ends.This belt can be shorten before it is sent if needed. The tie ends are 15 inches long..The belt also has the same brown trim as on the bra .Below the trim are 7 dangle buttons. The ribbon fringe is made up of mixture of teal and brown yarn thick in texture in three groupings . Between each grouping of yarn fringe is a belled chain for added movement and sound. 
&lt;br/&gt;As stated before this is a one of a kind piece of wearable art . The colors are very pretty and has really good movement to it 
&lt;br/&gt;you will stand out in the crowd in this one

      <description>&lt;div&gt;Up for sale are three different items made by Auralynne; I commissioned her a while back for quite a few pieces including these ut these three items just never got used!  Rather than let them continue to sit in storage and since I need new pieces for troue costumes I'm popping them online!

&lt;br/&gt;First; a set of clips; black and red 22 inch yarn falls with red roses and black mini flowers.  You can see the frint and back of them in this picture:

&lt;br/&gt;Last, one of her awesome macrame fringe &amp;amp; tassel belts!  Its a size medium; the belt length is 36.5 - 43 inches not counting the ties.  The macrame part of it makes it adjustable as the designs expand and contract to fit where you need it to.  It's her 'Ozarks' set which is burgundy, black and red.

      <description>&lt;div&gt;I am looking for *just* the right fabric for a commissioned bellydance gown and am not having much luck locally.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I need something with some lycra spandex in it, 2-way (not 4-way) stretch, in black and bronze/copper metallic.  I'm open to lots of possibilities within these parameters, but I'm just not finding much here in MI.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I have sent swatch requests to NYC, but haven't received anything yet and time is growing short.  I really don't want to order anything sight unseen -- can anyone tell me if there is a little specialty fabric store somewhere here (hopefully Detroit/Ann Arbor/Dearborn, although I will travel a bit) which would have a good selection of bellydance-friendly fabric?

&lt;br/&gt;I'm going to be a bellydancing extra in a "market scene."  I think I'll be wearing a simple tunic/caftan/galabiyah/whatever-it's-called, along the lines of plate 8 on this page:

&lt;br/&gt;For anyone who's tried the tunic and scarf look before, at what point should I start the flare of the skirt so that it will be most flattering when combined with the scarf:

      <description>&lt;div&gt;The other day my sister told me that I might want to avoid a friend of hers, who she said would have a phobia of me. Not me in particular... but she told me that this guy has a phobia of -- jewelry. The look of it, the sound of it, the feel of it. I guess you'd never want to show him how well the zils sound with the new coin bedleh set.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Seems like a real-life bellydancer-phobia to me. I did a cursory check on Google to confirm that yes, people actually DO have a phobia of jewelry and it's not just this one guy. I've never heard tell of it before. I bet none of this people have been in any audience that dancers here have entertained, I doubt that anyone could drag them to see a coin and Kuchi bedecked dancer, even if the chiffon DID muffle some of the sound. Plus, it would've gotten around that someone once ran screaming from your audience and you'd still be doing damage control.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Anyone ever hear of this before? And who wishes that they had this for just a little while to reduce any more expensive acquisitions?&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>Old Love, New Business</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;Creativity is a terrible thing to waste, and since I have a modest talent of sewing, I’ve decided to pursue that love. I am in the process of starting up my business, DanZ PantZ, a line of bellydance clothing. It will be limited run bellydance workout/performance pants (similar to yoga or jazz pants, but with flair!) and hip drapes, one of a kind fringe hip belts, and bellydance tops (including cholis, halters and more). 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I hope to make a successful enough business of this to support my dance habit (classes, workshops, jewelry, costume stuff, etc!), so I’m starting it out in a safe place, in my dance community. The support among us dancers is very strong, so I feel very confident in pursuing this endeavor. Thank you to everyone who’s supported my business so far with your need for all that is bellydance costumes! :D 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;While I am working on my business proposal for start up money and getting a website set up, I will be selling my wares on several Tribe sites (check my profile for the sites). I will have pictures in my profile too. I may possibly sell some on ebay under the user name myworld.ebay.com/akashaafsana in the near future. Depends on how they sell.

      <description>&lt;div&gt;Some of you may have seen the posts regarding this upcoming charity show. If not you can go to my blog. The reason I am posting here is to ask all of you lovely costume and goody makers for donations of items that you may want to get rid of or show off or just do for charity. We are going to be raffling off prizes at the show, and will be giving 100% of the proceeds to Women of Darfur, to help get them out. It takes roughly $3000 to get each woman and child out, so we can use all the help we can get. We already have some donations from local businesses, like an All day beauty package from a salon, and certificates from a travel agency, a 3 hour tattoo session, etc...But being that this is a Bellydance Show, I think it would be great to have some bellydance items, costume pieces, head dresses, falls, Dvd's, coins, cowries, you know all the goodies....so if anyone can help I would so appreciate it. &lt;br/&gt;I have several cabaret costumes that are in need of a home. I simply do not do cabaret and I have lost quite a bit of weight so they do not fit.

      <title>Fabric question...  Figuring ease? x-post</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;Hey, I know the standard wearing ease for most garments is 2 - 4 inches. In other words, your measurement + 2 inches means that the clothes will be comfortable for street wear. And that when dealing with things like Swimwear the ease is - 2-4 inches. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I'm drafting my own patterns again, and I've only been guessing up to this point when making clothes out of stretchy fabric. Anyone have anyt ideas on how to figure out what the negative ease should be when dealing with various stretch fbrics? RTW patterns have that line on the back that you hold your fabric up to to check if the amount of stretch in the fabric matches the amount of stretch required for the garment. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Any ideas would be greatly appriciated. I'm tired of having pants turn out either too big or too small because the fabric has a diferent amount of stretch.

      <description>&lt;div&gt;Beautiful Red Eman in one of her latest designs. Must sell it because it's just too small (as you will see in the photos....posted in my profile)
&lt;br/&gt;The skirt features two slits on the left side of the skirt and a cut out on each hip filled in with red mesh making it opaque not really transparent.
&lt;br/&gt;Also included are long cuffs and a matching veil.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The bra will fit up to a D cup
&lt;br/&gt;It is set at about 33 inches around the bust but can be expanded a few inches and taken in of course
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Skirt can go up to 39 inches at top of hip (but tight)
&lt;br/&gt;max booty 42 inches
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;For reference I'm 5'9" and just under 140 pounds and it's just a little too tight and a little too short.

As many of you know, when you buy, or sometimes when you make, a bra it can be a little short in the cleavage coverage area. There you go, you spent $100 or 50 hours on a gorgeous new bra and the girls are showing off a bit more than you planned. What to do???

Somebody posted a link to a pattern to buy that had everything you would need for an ATS costume, it had skirt, choli, and bloomers for sure, and may have had other stuff. I know it wasnt Simplicity, McCall or any of those mainstream patterns, and Im pretty sure it wasnt BD patterns either...does anyone know what Im talking about? If so could you post the link again please? &lt;/div&gt;

      <description>&lt;div&gt;I put in an order for 2 custom Bella's awhile back.
&lt;br/&gt;If any of you have odered directly from Bella, it is an adventure.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;First, you send off an email saying what color, basic design and size you'd like. Then, often times months later, you get an email back saying your costume is ready and to wire the money. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The cool part is that you have NO idea what the costume will look like, only that it will fit like a dream and be fabulous. And they ALWAYS are.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I ordered a bright red and gold costume and a teal, purple and copper costume in the $500 range. I usuallly do $700 to $800 range because they are so much nicer but I'm on a budget right now.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I can't wait to get them (which can take up to a month too). I will post picts when they arrive. I have 3 Bella's already so these will make 5. Yeah!!!&lt;/div&gt;

&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Few months ago I started to prepare my own costume, but I have a little problem, I cannot find a padded bra of my size due they are reaching only certain sizes.
&lt;br/&gt;I tried to by a normal bra and then buy the pad to sew inside but when I started to sew the coins the fabric of the bra does not support the weight of the coins.
&lt;br/&gt;In the end it was a mess.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Do you have any suggestion for me?

&lt;br/&gt;So i have an off the beat question. I am thin, but I still have a little "kangaroo" pouch --as I like the call it..under my navel..and wearing hip scarves only makes it look bigger---I really like hip scarves though--is there a way to hide this?? I like belts, but I only have 2 since they are expensive and I am a dancer on a budget.

&lt;br/&gt;Also, what about stretch marks. I have stretch marks on my hips and I cant cover them with hip scarves or belts..is there anyway of covering them  up with make up?

      <description>&lt;div&gt;OK, I know this has been posted on one of the costuming tribes before but I simply cannot find the link anywhere -- and since my computer and my husband's both have had to be reformatted, I have lost the bookmark...I am looking for a site by an Austrian or German bellydancer who has photo step by step directions for making a cabaret bra, belt, and crocheted gauntlets.  The crocheted gauntlets have photos with them on a shipping tube, with her placing sequins on the gauntlets with a toothpick and glue.

      <description>&lt;div&gt;Up for sale is a beautiful two panel Banjara fringe belt that was made by the lovely Sameera of Wicked Harem.  Photos can be seen in my profile.  This is a brand new belt that I bought but never wore because unfortunately the size was a tad too large for my hips so I’d rather sell it and let someone else enjoy it. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;It will fit a hip measurement of 36” or larger.  It’s made of a beautiful brightly colored Banjara belt with thick green dreaded fringe.  There are no broken or missing mirrors (however, a few mirrors have very light lettering on them though you don’t really notice it unless it’s right in front of your face)

      <title>Tribal bra for sale 34C purple</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;The is a homemade bra.  The bra will fit a 34 C.  The bra is lined and very sturdy.
&lt;br/&gt;The bra is a great starter piece for a new student or hobbyist. Will work well for class recital parties or SCA events.   The bra is covered in a purple  velvet fabric.  Along the top is a multi-colored trim that is about an inch wide.  Below the trim is a metal fringe. This is the 1st time I have work with this and I love it!  Make  a good jingle noise when you do shimmies.  It is a very old and rustic looking silver colored.  The side panel that are attach to the bra cups are about 6 1/2 inches long.  Black elastic is attach to the end on the side panel with a gold heart shaped clasp at the end (will form the shape of a heart when fasten)  The clasp is pinned not sewn so you can adjust to your size.  The neck straps are 28 inches long and can be cut and tied around your neck or for better support you can criss cross and sew to the end of the side panel or just sew to where the heart shape clasp is sewn for a straight over the should look.       <description>&lt;div&gt;I have an Egyptian Hagallah dress I'd like to sell.. it's a beautiful Blue and is now listed on E-Bay for $295.00. 
&lt;br/&gt;I need a longer one (this one is meant for someone under 5 ' 5" and would prefer one that is green (best for my skin tone).  It doesn't have to be as fancy as the one I have for sale.  &lt;/div&gt;

      <description>&lt;div&gt;Just wondering, what are your preferences as far as the musicians who perform with you?
&lt;br/&gt;What works well, and what do you like least?  There seems to be quite a range available.
&lt;br/&gt;I'd like to share costuming ideas with the musical support side of the performing equation.

      <title>Tribaret costume for sale 36C</title>

&lt;br/&gt;This is a hand made costume. Good for new student or hobbyist. This is a tribaret style costume (mixture of tribal and cabaret). The bra will fit a 36 C. The belt and bra are both lined. This will work well for student nights, parties, and SCA events. This is a one of a kind of custom piece. This is a good starter costume for new students or hobbyist or the dancers who wants to be notice!!!! The bra will fit a 36 C. The bra is covered in a dark blue satin fabric. The top part of the bra cup has a fabric that is beaded in glass blue bugle bead and some plastic blue beads in a decorative pattern. Below that trim is a row of tassel trim with blue and black threads. In the center of the bra is a kuchi dangle piece and a silver side bead with a blue swarovski crystal. The side panels are about 7 1/2 inches long. Black elastic is at the end of the side panels with  a gold buckle that is pinned not sewn so you can adjust to your size. The neck straps are about 20 inches long. The neck straps comes with no hooks or clasp. You can cut and tie or add Velcro or criss cross for more support. The belt is 33 inches long.(not including the tie straps) The belt is covered in a blue satin fabric. At the top of the belt is a black gimp cord, a row on the silver slide bead with the blue swarovski crystal and then another row of the black gimp cord. The belt is adorn with tassel fringe along the side the same color as on the bra to match. along the back of the belt is the same fabric that is beaded in glass bugle beads and some plastic blue beads in a decorative pattern. The fringe part of the belt is made that same decorative fabric that is on the bra and the belt base. they measure about 6 7/8 inches long. The tie straps are about 20 inches long . This belt is worn like it is a hip sash . It just ties around the waist. The belt can be altered if it needs to be shorten. I have had this fabric lying around for year and finally was able to put it to use. This is a one of a kind piece and may be for a long time. Have not seen this fabric any where.       <title>Must Have Costuming</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;I recently had open heart surgery and have lots of time on my hands to sew.  Getting the energy is another matter.  Since I have not been a student of bellydance very long...two years in April...I am still learning about costuming.  I would like to know what "all y'all" think are your most important costume pieces.  What could you NOT dance without?  What pieces should I invest in for the long term?  From whom should I purchase them?  I look forward to learning!&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>Rakkasah questions re: costuming?...</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;Does anyone know about stage lighting at Rakkasah West both at the show and dinner show? I made myself a new ATS style in greys, blues, and pinks (I know, I know, but I'm Rom born so we try to steer away from black/red, although it's inevitable), and I have a bedla in iridescent purple picked out, but any suggestions for color there would be aptly appreciated.&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>costume color in dim lighting</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;Looking to get feedback from other dancers.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I look horrible in light colors so I always have jewel tone costumes in dark tones. But what I've observed while watching other dancers performing in dim lighting, is that dark colors tend to make the dancer disappear.
&lt;br/&gt;Light colors tend to make a dancer stand out (not rocket surgery). 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;My dilema is when choosing costume colors. I really like dark colors but light ones are better for dim restaurants. &lt;/div&gt;
