Well the time has finally come... I have so little hair left that my scalp looks like bad comb-over ! Now this doesn't bother me in my every day life- but dancing ? I normally wear headdresses for dancing and maybe would like to try a wig for a change - GASP!!!! Do any of you ladies have advice ? I don't even have enough hair for extensions to work. I wore wigs for fun in the seventies but I bet they have changed a lot.I was thinking -longish hair because it suits tribal. It's gotta' be hot to wear one tho'.????.... XX Judy

Judy I use to make wigs.....you might want to look into an integration piece. The weave is very open and lite weight....If you have one custom made they can put the hair in where you need it most. Your own hair is pulled through with a hair brush and your own hair works to secure. If it is made out of human hair you can shampoo it and style it right on your head without removing it. I'll try to find the company that made the finish product for my business years ago. It's been a long time, but I'm sure they are still around. Expensive yes, but well worth the dollars. Nice wigs just are not cheap anymore....and a cheap wig will make you crazy. However......a cheap wig might give you an idea of what you want in the way of a good one.

Try looking for a wig shop, even if you have to drive a bit, the experience of getting to try on lots of different styles and colors is definitely worth it. Revlon has very nice wigs for good prices. You'll probably need a wig stylist to cut it in for you, most commercially made wigs are much too thick to look natural. Your regular stylist may be able to help you but most hairdressers should refer you to someone who has experience in cutting wigs, it doesn't grow back, after all. The wig shop will know someone or have one on staff. Take your time and ask questions, get the wig stylist to show you how to comb the wig around your face so the hairline looks natural. The hairline is the key to getting it to look good.

Integration pieces are great too. Revlon makes those too but shop around if you can, having lots of choices will insure you get the best look. You may prefer human hair but the newer artificial ones are really great, look natural and are very easy care. Human hair are a little more trouble and are much more expensive. If you get the right color, style and texture, with an expert cut , no one but you will ever know.

Good Fortune and Happy Hair Hunting!

I'm full of empathy, having hair like duck fluff myself. I was a haircutter for 16 years, when alot younger, too. I've found the best for our kilnd of hair ( frog fur) is a blunt bob cut, at the jawline or so. A blunt ( ie straight across, no layers at all ) tends to make the hair look thicker and allows some 'swing' to it. I have grown mine to top -of-the-shoulder length, but have to wash it every other day to keep it clean, so it doesn't get long 'stringy' looking. Good luck --- you'll be beautiful anyway!
