Hey all you beautiful crones! I've been reading your tribe, and while I don't officially count as a crone for another seven years, I can guarantee I will dance my entire life. I have some qualifications I hope will work for you so I can be included in your group -
1. Age is a state of mind.
2. My mother taught me to belly dance when I was five, and she still dances at 64.
3. My favorite time teaching belly dance was for my mother in law's Red Hat Lady luncheon. Talk about a blast - those ladies know how to party!
4. I had a great time performing at the local AARP luncheon. I was so worried about offending them with my costume and belly showing, thinking that they might not get it, so I kept the belly covered. They made me feel so comfortable that I later removed the cover, and they were so appreciative. They held their breath when I was balancing my cane. One woman even shouted "It's not even!"
5. I recently finished my physical therapy doctoral case report on teaching wheelchair belly dance to a 57 year old woman with MS. She improved greatly, and continues to dance on her own. I never knew research could be so fun!

Fri, September 4, 2009 - 8:13 AMsounds like you're "well-connected" to the in crowd ;-) Welcome!
One thing I particularly enjoy about getting older is not caring so much what others think anymore - or maybe it's better to put it like this: my inner courage & confidence is growing along with my age. LOL -

Re: Introduction to a great tribe!
Thu, September 10, 2009 - 9:52 AMPersonally, I love aging. I was so happy to turn 30, and couldn't wait until it happened. When my friends asked me why I couldn't wait (amidst their own tears due to their aging), I let them know that to me turning 30 was a liberation of the baggage from all the stupid things I did in my 20's. (And I did a lot of stupid things!) I guess I see the thirties as old enough to know better, but young enough to do it anyway. I look forward to learning from all the stupid things I have yet to do in my 30's. Maybe 40's will be more of the same. -

Re: Introduction to a great tribe!
Fri, September 11, 2009 - 8:08 AMdefinitely, aging isn't what it used to be ;-) thanks to all the wonderful olders who're out there kicking ass - and inspiring the rest of us. And it helps that experience really does bring wisdom (unless you're a total idiot).
I think especially in terms of bellydance, which as we all really know, is NOT just for turning men on ;-) we can find a path to follow, and enjoy our role in the dance as it changes (as it should). Nothing to worry about. Rather, as Wildcat says, we can enjoy our new experience!
