Ok, here goes....

I'm being told by "someone" - repeatedly - that posting a vid here is a very good experience regardless of the nature of the comments. There is always something to learn. I completely agree with her but am a bit scared and was also waiting for the "perfect" video to share (duh).
So here is a NOT perfect video in many ways including quality, but if I keep waiting I might never do it.
*gasp*
thx!

    Hi Mariana,
I enjoyed your performance. In general I would tell you that you are beautiful on stage. My critique has just as much to do with what I should work on, as it does what I think you should work on.

Arms-- I think that your arms could use some "tightening up" so to say. Just making the arm positions part of the choreography so that they look intentionally placed a certain way, in certain segments of music. At times your arms seemed to drop like you were focusing on the pops and locks so much that the arms were lost.

Legs-- (Note: This may be a costuming thing too) Be mindful how far apart your feet and legs are when you are coming out of arabesque facing the audience. The straight double slit skirt my emphasis that a little...

Midriff-- I am a larger dancer so I try desperately to maintain good posture and "pull-in" a bit in the midriff. While you are most definitely not a large dancer, I think pulling in a bit in the abdomen could help you too. Not only does it make the arm positions I mentioned earlier a lot easier to control, but it makes all those great pops and locks you do more controlled and obvious to the audience. You got 'em, so show 'em off!

Choreography-- Sell that ending!!! Leave it on the stage!!! Break a leg.... What ever phrase you like, make it your mantra. When you stick the end of a choreography you tell the audience that you KNOW you ROCKED!

Hope this is helpful to you!

    Hi Mariana,

I too really enjoyed this performance; I liked how it was subtle and the movements were small and precise. Too bad the camera was so far away!

I agree with Melodi on everything, and would add that in the last third of the piece or so you started playing more with arm movements and it really "turned on" the performance. Much more dynamic. I would also say (and again, the cam was far away so can't be totally sure) to work on stronger and more defined undulations/belly rolls. Really work the core abs and pull in to get that nice 'S' shape. It will offset all of your other delicate sharp movements really nicely. The only other thing I'd say is to maybe add just a few more "big" moves, be they a wide hip circle, or a quick turn here and there.

All in all I thought it was great; your costuming was very pretty! You seemed very confident onstage and looked like you were having fun. And yeah, don't be afraid to sell that ending! I find that if I hold the end just about two seconds longer than what feels natural, it's the right amount to not make it look like I'm hurrying off the stage.

Thanks for posting! Would love to see more :)

thank you to you both! great advice. I've heard some of your comments before, but it's great to hear them in new words and from a new set of eyes. I also haven't heard some of it before so I have new things to work on, which I love.
Hope to have another better quality vid to post soon.
