OMG, this was fantastic. It was all very creative and the song - where did you get it? :-D I´m sooo gonna send it to every dance friend I know :-)
You´re a damn good dancer and if you keep up the good work , then we´re looking at one of the next tribal fusion BDSS ;-)

Fantastic. You are obviously a VERY talented dancer. Something (not your fault), but your camera operater (or someone close by) kind of spoke too loud on got on your tape which is distracting. I've seen other tapes like that as well and I taped for someone at our hafla on Thursday and was very conscious not to speak or clap (which was hard, cause she was good). Very nice to see a new piece of music. Your technique was perfect for this piece. One tiny comment tho, when you started your shimmy and layered over it, I got the sense it dropped off a couple of times. I sure would like to see more of your work! Keep shakin it! b <>< . . .

      thank you!
i'll definitely work on keeping the shimmy strong during layers :)
and yeah, the camera person had some very, er, interesting comments. i don't actually know the person, but just came across the video on youtube. now that i'm thinking about it i should ask her to send me the video so i can dub my music over it.
      thanks again for the feedback!

That was really fantastic! I definitely have to agree :) very creative and original. Well done!

My one constructive critique though is to definitely be conscious of where your arms end up and what your hands are doing. In some spots your hands went a bit limp and your arm positions fell...But that is being REALLY knit-picky! Overall, your performance was fabulous! Keep up the great work!

I also thought it was pretty good. Your isolations were really crisp and with the music, but I personally thought it was oversaturated with isolations. I would have liked to see you move a little more. Even just some arabics, sweeping arms or something. You're really good at what your doing, but I think something to work on would be dancing with your whole body more. Try dancing with your feet, legs, hair, everything....Also, I would recommend that you experiment with opening your body more. Take big steps, reach your arms out or up. Your dancing is very closed into to your core and I think that trying to open up and extend out to the end of your limbs would make it more dynamic.
I know the music wasn't so sweepy and perhaps it didn't feel appropriate to add bigger movements, but I still think some could have worked.
Also, I agree that you have to watch where your arms fall. Sometimes they looked really lovely, while at other points you held your elbows like they were really heavy and they ended up getting in the way of seeing your other movements.
          Otherwise, really nicely done :)
          Hope that helps!

this was extremely helpful, thank you!
i'm not totally comfortable with my arms, and i think it shows in my dancing- they tend to stay down by my side, which in turn makes me want to stay stationary since it's difficult to look graceful and move around a lot with my arms stuck to my side.
any dvd suggestions for arms? (i already have rb arms and posture, i just don't do it enough, clearly!)

That's a good question! Arms are a big issue for me because I have long ones and because for a long time I danced with crazy arms and didn't realize it (nobody told me how psycho I looked!). I therefore had to retrain them to move with more intention and strength. I can't think of any DVDs other than RBs that specifically deal with arms. But honestly, I think a really big help for me was going back to ATS basics. When you practice at home try to just hold your arms in a high, strong 2nd or 5th postition like an ATS dancer so that you start to develop muscle memory that keeps your elbows lifted up. Then when you start to bring your elbows in towards your rib cage, try to do it at strategic moments when your arms will frame whatever you're doing with your torso (like chest work).
Also, look beyond belly dance for cool things to do with your arms. I'm personally a big fan of jazz dance and foundd that doing some jazz training was helpful for my arm position ideas. But inspiration can be found in all dance forms!
And then also, pay attention to how other dancers hold their arms to get more ideas. I love what Zafira do with their arms. I find their dancing endlessly inspriing---

(They really start to do cool things with their arms at about 2:31)

i will definitely try that! i've never done any ATS, which is really sad, but no one offers it around here. :( I'm going to youtube it to death though, and try to take more more more workshops and whatnot.

I agree with learning some ATS basics if you can :) it really is a MUST for any tribal fusion dancer! Carolena is just brilliant and ATS has really helped me with being more conscious of my posture and arm placement. What area to you live in? You can always hit up the ATS tribes and see if you can find someone in your area. If not, the FatChance BellyDance DVDs are really helpful :) happy dancing!

Well all of them are fantastic...There are actually 7 volumes (if I remember right). The first few volumes deal with posture and such, then they all progressively build on one another as they go on. Volume 4 has more of the beginning movements on it; plus it goes over posture and such pretty well. You might be ok with starting there. Volumes 4 and 7 are my personal favorites because they have the majority of the movements on them but I think if you can get all of them eventually, you'll actually use them all. Plus, they're fantastic to learn from :) Hope that helps!
