Re: Mariah performing LIVE! w/ Classic Belly-Rock Band Ishtar
Tue, April 21, 2009 - 10:42 AMYou're a beautiful dancer with nice musicality. Can't hear your zills, but I can tell you're a well-trained dancer who knows how to captivate an audience.
While I really enjoy your dancing, I want to ask what you're going for. Turkish orientale? Turkish Rom? A fusion of Egyptian and Turkish style?
It kind of seems like you're doing a modified Arabic/vintage orientale style in a Turkish costume. For example...I don't typically see Turkish-style dancers doing arabesques or using Pharonics (king tut) style arms. And I haven't seen the jumps you're using in the Turkish classes I've taken...I like them, but I'm curious what your source is. I usually use more hop-steps, Yildiz hops, Eva hops... Where you throw in some great Rom punches and pelvic up/drops, it only composes a small section of the song. Also, although I know a lot of American dancers doing Turkish style use skirt, it's not really a traditional part of the dance (in some Romani cultures, touching the skirt is considered dirty, so I see that as more vintage orientale.) Posturally, your carriage is more that of an Arabic style dancer. I'd like to see you less lifted and releve'd, more grounded...with more of a traditional Turkish Roman feel.
But again, this is only if that's what you're going for. If you're just going for a clean, musically on-target, well danced performance, I'd say you did a great job. :) Thanks for sharing this, you're a beautiful dancer.
