One of my students posted this recent video of me doing improv at a local show. The video quality is awful :( but for the most part you can still tell what is happening (I hope).
I can really see some things I would criticize myself for (although I am proud of the outcome overall) but I will keep my mouth shut so that I don't bias anyone. Any and all criticism is welcome.
Thanks for watching!

Re: New video - feedback welcome!
Sun, December 23, 2007 - 5:36 AMThis was a lot of fun to watch- you move beautifully! There were a couple spots where I felt like you didn't slow down in a particularly fluid part of the music, and the backbend (tho well done and a crowd pleaser) didn't seem to fit what the music was doing just there (felt like throwing in a trick to me)- but overall, good interpretation- the transition at the major change in music seemed a bit hesitant at first, but it looked stronger after the first couple beats- willing to attribute that to the camera, perhaps.
the two points that really did bother me tho were the entrance and exit- I would have liked to see a more dramatic 'taking of the stage'- really walking out to claim the space. The very beginning was the only point I thought you used too much distracting hand movement- everywhere else it matched what your body was doing. I would suggest just taking that first 10 seconds or so to walk onto stage and connect with the audience. At the end, take time to again acknowledge the audience for at least 5-10 seconds. If you just scoot off stage, it looks like you were caught doing something and takes away from the sense of confidence and purpose you otherwise display.
hope this isn't too nit-picky!

Thu, December 27, 2007 - 6:28 AMThank you for the feedback!
I agree with all of your criticisms, especially the one about the spastic exit... I'm not sure what happened in my brain at that moment (probably nothing, hee hee) but if I got a do-over for only 5 seconds of the song that is totally what I would go back and fix.
Again, thank you for watching! :D

Re: New video - feedback welcome!
Fri, December 28, 2007 - 5:41 AMyou move quite beautifully, you have excellent layering and pretty clean technique and for the most part you respond really well to the music, and overall it was a good improv. 2 suggestions. one) hold your ending pose solid and dramatically for a bit before you make a graceful exit. two) extend some of your movements to extend for full musical phrases. I felt as though you jumped around just a little too often arbitrarily mid-phrase beyond just transition movements.
Other than that, things to think about playing with: stillness, or moments of super slow motion as a juxtaposition to the layering and faster rhythmic movements. I think this could be fun for you to find to moments where you can work the drama.
Really great dancing.
