EDC Overview:

Sunday, June 29 and July 6, 2008
1:00 PM - 4:30 PM

Workshop includes:

* Physical definition of the Egyptian Dance Code
* Upper and lower torso dance movement within the Egyptian Dance Code
* Arm movements within the Egyptian Dance Code
* Relationship to expression of the Egyptian culture
* Handouts
* Video study and identification of the Egyptian Dance Code in past and present Egyptian Dancers

All registrants will have actual physical body-on experience performing the Egyptian Dance Code in this workshop. Workshops taught by Sausan.

I've just been informed that one of the presentors (the one who was to instruct the choreography portion of the workshop) has accepted a conflicting engagement.

FREE professional photography at Tribal Fest 8

Hello, I'm Evi Numen and I'm a professional photographer based in Philadelphia. I recently took up belly dance and I 'm absolutely enamored with it. In my search for relevant images, I noticed that there is no photography book devoted to belly dancers. Thus, my current goal is to take classic, painting-like portraits of belly dancers in full regalia, in the hopes of publishing them in a book entitled Faces of Belly Dance (not set with the title yet though).
Suffice to say, I need subjects!

I will be attending Tribal Fest 8, not only as a dancer myself, but in the hopes of photographing more of you beautiful ladies for this project.
I will be in Sebastopol from Tuesday night to Sunday afternoon and I will have my studio set up in my hotel room at the Holiday Express Inn. So email me to set something up!

Although the two events will remain separate entities, we are working together to merge the activities into 5 solid days of incredible workshops, contests, shows, and shopping—all in the fabulous city of Las Vegas, NV.

The Las Vegas Bellydance Intensive has organized multiple tracks of level and style specific workshops in Vegas for the last 6 years. Wiggles of the West brings 12 years of belly dance competition experience to the table. Raqia Hassan hasn't posted it on her website yet, but it apparently the Mena House will have renovations completed enough to host Ahlan Wa Sahlan again this year! Yay! http://www.oberoimenahouse.com/index.asp?leftinfo=1&leftitem=1
There is a limited number of rooms available at the Mena house however. Scheherezade Imports http://scheherezadeimports.com/tourEgypt.asp only has 3 rooms left in their allotment. Lucy is extremely helpful and she and her staff are really dedicated to help you get the most of your trip.
The festival agency also only has a limited number of rooms; which are higher cost pyramid views or palace rooms. Other hotel options offered through the agency are the Meridian, Sofitel or Grand Pyramid. I don't know how close they are to the festival. Maybe someone here does and can post?

On Saturday night, July 19th, Marrakech & Paprika will put on the Summertime Sideshow Circus at the Buffalo Rose Saloon in old Downtown Golden, Colorado.

It's that time of year again!!!!

march 7-9 at the Hawthorn Inn in Arlington, WA.

10 categories to choose from, shopping, open dancing, door prizes and drawings, Sisterhood of the Dance and Behind the Scenes awards, laughing and good friends.

Deadline for registration is February 15, 2008.

Don't for get the call in for Fete Dancing is January 20 at noon. Spaces are limited! This is a great way to perform without competing. Plsease speak with an actual person... don't leave a message as we need information from you as to day and times you would like to dance.

Friday night will be the Gala Fundraiser to benefit Kyra, (for those of you who are unaware, Kyra has had serious health problems and then this last Spring lost her only child in a car accident). There will be a silent auction as well as raffels, all proceeds of Friday night will go to Kyra and her family.

Sunday morning at 10:00am will be the Gypsy Sword workshop. $25 preregister and $30 at the door. The workshop will be taught by our hostess for the weekend... Melody! For an hour... or maybe a little longer... she will teach you all the tricks of the Basque Gypsies as well as a few from Turkdy and the Middle East.

New Travel Reference Tribe

I have discussed with some other girls, and have created a new tribe.

This is for y'all to post WHERE YOU SHOP for bellydance gear AT HOME. Eg, post either under a town already listed, or start another subject with your hometown. What I'm trying to accomplish here is to compile a list of bellydance boutiques in cities so that when one goes traveling, one can refer to one place and one list and find out where to shop when in town. Or at the festivals in the calendar!

So tell us about shopping at home, and give some kind of directions if you can, street name or whatever.

Until it gets totally unmanageable, memberships are under approval to reduce spamming. But I think everyone can see the tribe, so it's not really necessary to join the tribe unless you want to post.
