Hi everyone, I just joined, so I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a student in New Haven, CT. I spend most of my summers in Berlin, and was wondering where one can study Egyptian style in Berlin.
I've previously taken classes at a place called La Caminada, and I know about Beata and Horacio. I'll probably go to their school and try it, since there's always something to be learned, but my heart is in Egyptian style that's not *as* ballet influenced. Any advice?

Re: Intro, and Egyptian in Berlin
Wed, March 5, 2008 - 9:33 AMKatharina Joumana (www.joumana.de) is said to be Egyptian style. I like Firuze and Laila el-Jarad in Berlin (Laila teaches in La Caminada) but they're not Egyptian. For Egyptian there are Reyhan (my favourite) in Frankfurt, Momo Kadous and Djamila (also Frankfurt), Ahmed Fekry lives near Cologne... -

Tue, March 25, 2008 - 4:50 PMThank you! I took classes at La Caminada last summer and really liked Laila too. How would you describe her style? It's very controlled, a little bit tribal-y, but I'm not quite sure how to place it. -

Re: Intro, and Egyptian in Berlin
Tue, March 25, 2008 - 4:59 PMHm, she has made studies in modern dance I think. It was a school where she studied, with degree and so, so I guess she did a a mix from ballet, modern and jazz in that school. I'll ask a friend who works with her.

Re: Intro, and Egyptian in Berlin
Thu, March 6, 2008 - 1:18 AMAlso not Egyptian style but a very charismatic performer (and different from Beata and Horacio) is Raksan, who lives in Berlin. She is doing a modern interpretation of bellydance with specialty on the mystical. I only heard the best about her and am looking forward to see her perform next week!
