In deze workshop overloopt Anadil de belangrijkste technieken met de stok; draaien, framing, etc. Deze workshop is zowel geschikt voor wie nog géén ervaring heeft met het dansen met de stok, als voor wie haar technieken wil oppoetsen en perfectioneren.

13.00-16.00: Ana Saidi: choreografie met stok (Prijs: 35€)

Heb je de themalessen Saiidi gemist? Of ken je de choreografie al een beetje maar wil je hem verder uitdiepen, er echt dans van maken? Ben je net zoals wij verliefd op het liedje? In deze workshop leert Anadil je een leuke, stokchoreografie aan die je zowel in groep kan dansen, als omwerken tot een solo. Of je kan een van de vele leuke combinaties 'stelen' en in je eigen dans inpassen. Een aanrader!

summer classes and workshops in Leuven, Artemisia and guests

Hello dancers!

the last classes are coming closer and closer, and so is summer!

New weekly classes will start in september (enrollments from august through the website)..

We still want to dance this summer, and our summer mini-workshops are becoming a tradition.

all classes are held at Sportoase (Parkpoort Leuven), and cost 15E for one 1,5h class, and 30E for two classes (3h). There are two workshops every time, with two different topics, so you can also combine two classes.

Most classes are al levels (unless stated otherwise below).

SHOW TONIGHT CANCELED - IMPORTANT

due to riots near the venue, both police and venue have asked us to cancel the show tonight at the zinnema.

people who bought a ticket can get a refund by calling nicole www.crea-dance.be (but please dont call today, we are very busy warning everyone).

we are really sorry and upset. but it would be even more horrible if anyone got hurt, so we are rather safe than sorry. i'm sort of in shock, this is belgium, things like this are not supposed to happen here.

i'd like to thank everyone who has worked so hard the last weeks to help us and make this happen.

we'll be back with an even bigger and better show next year!

Ha Lezers, danseressen, docenten en alle andere vaste bezoekers of nieuwe bezoekers van Oriental Magic,

Op zaterdag 25 oktober is het weer zover: het jaarlijkse evenement voor dansers door dansers: Oriental Magic. De vierde alweer.

Het lijkt nog ver weg, maar de tijd gaat snel en steeds sneller.

We willen niet te laat zijn met het aankondigen van het voorlopige programma, dus, wil je meewerken aan Oriental Magic, wil je een optreden geven of een workshop meldt je dan aan.

Iedereen is welkom. Of het nu je eerste optreden zal zijn of je zoveelste. Of je nu Tribal danst of Fusion, Bellybreak of Baladi en al het mogelijke er tussen in. Laat het zien tijdens Oriental Magic. De grote landelijke (internationale, want we rekenen ook op onze zuiderburen) ontmoetingsdag voor alle liefhebbers van de Oriëntaalse Dans.

Natuurlijk zal er weer een grote bazaar zijn, henna-art, een lekker hapje tussendoor, een info-balie etc. etc. én heel veel mogelijkheid om lekker te dansen voor de gebruikelijke toegangsprijs van Euro 10,-- p.p.

Ook aan de kinderen zal worden gedacht en zij zijn natuurlijk van harte welkom op deze dag voor de hele (dans)familie. Toegang kinderen tot 12 jaar Euro 5,--.

We hebben ruimte voor minstens 15 uur workshops, laat kennis maken met en maak kennis met de vele stijlen die er zijn binnen deze danskunst/sport
Promote je specialiteiten door belangstellenden of belangstellenden in spé er van te laten "proeven".

Demonstreer het tijdens de optreed blokken.

i just finished the line up for the show. and it looks fantastic. we have a bit of everything: tribal fusion, american tribal style, gothic, turkish,(not one but two male dancers!), veil, american bellydance, and classic oriental. sharon is our star of course, but i'm glad we have a program that represents many different aspects of bellydancing with many local stars (or just over the border) as well!

"Love you Veil" met Artemisia ( België).

Heb je nog nooit met een sluier gedanst? Probeerde je het al, maar ben je nog niet zeker of het je wel leuk vind? Of dans je integendeel al jaren en is de sluier ook jouw favoriete prop? Artemisia is in België en ver buiten de grenzen gekend voor haar magie met de zijden sluier. In deze workshop deelt ze haar aanpak, visie en... natuurlijk ook haar "trukkendoos". No secrets! Deze workshops is zowel geschikt voor de absolute beginner als voor de gevorderde danseres op zoek naar iets nieuw.

Hello everyone

on 26-27th of april American Bellydancer Razia will be teaching workshops in Leuven. The sunday workshops are full, but there are still some spaces for saturday (check www.emotionvzw.be for info and enrollments)

but what would a workshop weekend be without some dancing and a show!

therefore, on saturday 26th of april Nicole and Artemisia are organising a GRAND HAFLA at Au Ryad in Brussels (just next to brussels south so you can also get here by train if you want). I've asked Razia to dance for us what she would usually do in a restaurant or night club in her home town in the US: the full deal american cabaret routine. we always here about it, now we can see it!

Let op!!!! Nieuwe locatie voor het Benefiet voor NEMA op zaterdag 10 mei in het kader van Wereld Buikdansdag.

Lieve mensen,

In één dag 10 slagen grijzer

Afgelopen vrijdag zou Luc, namens de organistie van het Benefiet voor NEMA in het kader van Wereldbuikdansdag, een gespek met de eigenaar van de locatie hebben om de laatste puntjes op de i te zetten.

Wat er is gebeurd zal een vraagteken blijven, maar de man ontving hem zeer kwaad met de mededeling dat hij "een dergelijk evenement"?? niet langer wilde huisvesten. De toegang werd ontzegd, zonder duidelijke opgaaf van redenen en zij die vervolgens hebben geprobeerd te bellen met de eigenaar ondervonden na melding waarvoor er werd gebeld het onmiddelijk afbreken van de verbinding.
Hoe gek kun je het meemaken!.

De posters en flyers zijn de deur uit. Alles rond. Een prachtig programma, wat vandaag gepubliceerd zou gaan worden. De leden van NEMA allen uitgenodigd. We zouden een geweldige dag tegemoet gaan........
Drie weken vóór het benefiet evenement en dan géén zaal! Paniek.

De goden zijn ons, de doelstellingen van Wereldbuikdansdag én ons benefiet evenement echter wonderlijk goed gezind, gisteravond is er een andere locatie met prachtige faciliteiten gevonden!!!!!

Nieuw adres: Dancing Kempenhof, Bert Leysenlaan 20, Balen. België. (note: vlak bij Mol, de oude locatie, gelegen).

Groot voordeel van de nieuwe locatie is dat het, in tegenstelling tot de vorige, op korte loopafstand van het station is gelegen.

Komende vanaf station:
Het station ligt in de Stationsstraat helemaal rechts-onder. Dan de Alfons Dierckxstraat nemen, vervolgens de Vaartstraat, naar links gaan en na enkele honderden meters is de Bert Leysenlaan aan de rechterkant.

Treinverbinding:
Komende van Hasselt moeten de spoorreizigers de trein richting Mol nemen en dan de halte VOOR Mol afstappen.
Komende van Antwerpen neem je de trein naar Neerpelt. Dan moet de reiziger even opletten: OFWEL moet hij in Mol overstappen op de trein naar Hasselt en stapt hij een halte verder, in Balen af. OFWEL is het vanaf Antwerpen al één trein en wordt die in Mol gesplitst. De reiziger vraagt dan best aan de treinbegeleider of hij in het stuk zit dat naar Hasselt rijdt. Heel belangrijk!!! Of je komt in Neerpelt uit!!!.
Aangezien het zaterdag is, wordt het station van Balen slechts om DE TWEE uur aangedaan. De verbinding van Antwerpen tot Mol is om het uur.

Voor hen die met de auto komen is er een ruime parkeergelegenheid voorzien.

Goed lieve mensen, de schrik weer te boven, Het evenement gaat gelukkig gewoon door, maar daarmee zijn we er nog niet.

Natuurlijk wordt iedere deelnemer (dansers, team, standhouders etc.) persoonlijk van het nieuwe adres op de hoogte gesteld.

De download flyer op www.orientalmagic.eu wordt aangepast.(Dus even niet beschikbaar).

Het is te laat om nog nieuwe flyers te drukken en verspreiden. Dus een oproep aan ieder die al flyers heeft ontvangen om het adres aan te willen passen. Hartelijk dank alvast !!! voor deze te nemen moeite.

Voor hen die dit lezen en van plan waren te komen geef het door!!
We hebben ook jullie hulp nu even nodig.
Ik moet er niet aan denken als er straks voor de "verkeerde deur" wordt gestaan.

Dit is een bizarre en onvoorziene omstandigheid en mag niet ten kosten gaan van dit Benefiet evenement én van het "Wereld Buikdansdag" gevoel.

i have some great news!

on friday 23rd, saturday 24th and sunday 25th of May, Nicole Moulin and myself, we have invited the amazing Sharon Kihara to teach in Leuven and Brussels!

there will also be a show with her, on the friday or the saturday, in Brussels,

we are still working out the details (which workshop when where and what times exactly)... but there will be a master class, a 4h tribal conditioning workshop for all levels, a choreography workshop and a special topic workshop. it will be a real Sharon Kihara three day intensive!

Work It, Girl (or Guy)!: A Day of Technique Building, Body Creativity and Conditioning for the Tribal Fusion Dancer. (all levels!)

Come and enjoy this intense (and fun) workout! This class is designed for any level of dancer who wishes to push themselves in the realms of strength, flexibility and endurance. Using a variety of movement methods, we will condition and tone the muscles that we rely on most as bellydancers, emphasizing healthy alignment of the spine and joints. After a warm-up and mat session, we will then rock out with technique-focused drills that get the rhythm in our bodies and our blood pumpin! This body-warming class will culminate in fresh dance combinations! Bring a yoga mat or a towel, a hip scarf and water bottle (preferably full).

10-13h Weaving it Together: Technique-Focused Dance Combinations.

In this class we will not only work on honing our dance technique, we will put it to good use as we put those moves we have drilled ever so faithfully! We will learn and create some fun combinations that can be incorporated into your own repertoire, keeping strong muscular skill and alignment well in hand so the creative juices are free to flow! As we weave our moves into combos, we shall then weave the combos into a choreography to take with us! This class is fun and appropriate for all levels of Tribal-flavored dancer, and those new to Tribal Style are encouraged to give it a try. Some Bellydance experience is recommended. Please wear exercise-friendly clothes and bring something to tie around your hips!

Bear Hides and Buffalo: A Slightly Strange Tribal Fusion Choreography.

This is an all-levels class that allows us to explore the more Avante-garde side of bellydance. After a warm up and short drill session, we’ll integrate Tribal Fusion bellydance moves with some unexpected twists, borrowed from classical dance and beyond. Some experience is great, but adventurous beginners are encouraged to give it a whirl. Comfy stretchy dance clothes are always a good idea.

Verkondig het nieuws aan 'alle mensen van goede wil' !!

Op zaterdag 10 mei is het WERELD BUIKDANSDAG. Voor meer historische achtergrond-info kan je op mijn tribe terecht.
Laat ons het er hier op houden dat op die dag de buikdanseressen zich voor een goed doel inzetten!!

Er is een evenement in opbouw op de grens tussen Nederland en België.

De opbrengst van Wereld Buikdansdag 2008 zal ten goede komen van NEMA. Dit is een vereniging voor mensen met NEuro Musculaire Aandoeningen.
Bovendien zullen de leden van NEMA gratis van dit spektakel mogen genieten.
Het evenement zal doorgaan in ‘De Kaasboerin’, Eerselseweg 99 te Mol. Deze locatie biedt plaats aan 350 toeschouwers. De nabijheid van de Nederlandse grens (op 200 meter) onderstreept het internationale karakter van het gebeuren.
Inderdaad, het feit dat er op Belgische bodem wordt gedanst, houdt geen enkele beperking in voor wat betreft de nationaliteit van de dansers. Alle beoefenaars van de Oriëntaalse danskunst op onze planeet zijn welkom om deel te nemen.
De deuren gaan open om 14h00.
In de namiddag zal er een soort ‘voorshow’ zijn om de dag op gang te trekken. Ondertussen kunnen Oriëntaalse souks of/en workshops
bezocht worden.
Nadien volgt dan een spetterende avondshow . Gezien het enigszins beperkt aantal zitplaatsen zal dezelfde avondshow tweemaal gepresenteerd worden.
Voor de kleinsten, die aan buikdans nog geen boodschap hebben, is er een grote, afgesloten speeltuin.
De toegangskaarten kosten 10 Euro in voorverkoop en 12 Euro ter plaatse.
Kinderen hebben gratis toegang.

Halfa's - looking for...

Hello,

i'd like to apologise to everyone again for having to cancel the last hafla...!

well, that does make clear that we need to find a new location, one WITH a functioning Heating!!! preferable in the Leuven area. so if anyone has any suggestions of an (affordable) venue we can transform into a cosy dance/chat/hang around/eat and drink/ area for 50-60 dancers, with some privacy,... let me know.

secondly, i'm looking for cushions and carpets! if you have something you would otherwise discard, let me know! it can be old, but preferable clean-ish so people wouldnt mind sitting on it in their nice Bella's!

Zaterdag 8 december

1. Techniek: Egyptian Walk Fix. 14-15.30u

Vind je deze beweging nog altijd erg moeilijk? Of wil je ze graag verder afwerken, wat extra variaties leren (vooruit, achteruit, zijwaarts, voor en achter, versnellen, etc…)? Dan is deze workshop iets voor jou! Artemisia legt stap voor stap deze complexe beweging opnieuw uit, daarna werken we aan variaties in verschillende stijlen, en drijven we het tempo op, tot we uitkomen bij de ¾ Shimmy. Ook die gaan we dan variëren en toepassen op muziek.
Niveau: Doorstroming en Half-Gevorderden
Max 15 deelneemsters!

2. Duo-Choreografie: Warda. 15.45-17.45u

In deze workshop gaan we de choreografie uit de lessen doorstroming verder afwerken. We ‘kuisen’ de techniek een beetje op, en werken aan armhouding, presentatie, samen dansen met je partner, communicatie, de plaatsing in de ruimte, etc. ‘s avonds op de hafla demonstreren we (geen verplchting!) ons harde werk…
Niveau: enkel voor wie de cursus doorstroming op donderdag volgt en de choreografie al (min of meer) kent!

Cape Town - short report

In short: it went well, and i had a lot of fun.

;-)

Marina the organiser was super nice, an amazing woman. she is this unbelievable, combination of a gypsy spirit (laid back, no worries!) AND organisational talent (no waiting around for us, all transfers organised, rehearsals, when and where we'd eat) but if we wanted to change something: NO problem. very good at delegating, and trusting everybody, expecting everybody to do their job. and they did.
anyway, i can only hope it will be like this everytime i travel!

we staid at the house of a student of Marina, overlooking the bay, and we were very very well taken care off. thank you Dorethy and Nicol!

I taught three workshops that were more or less sold out, and they want me back!
the students were fantastic. I was asked to teach general level technique workshops, and we did much more than that. they worked very very very hard and we were able to cover a lot of material. the students/dancers/teachers are very eager to learn. they kept saying "'oh, we are not very good yet" and "the level here is bad"... , which was mostly bullshit: it was impressive to see how much their community has been growing over the years. there really is a tremendous desire to grow and improve; and as a teacher i found that fantastic! there is nothing more fun than teaching people who WANT to learn.

the performance went well as well, the venue (cape town city hall) was absolutely amazing! a very old building (1900 i think), old chandeliers, high ceilings, huge stage. in need of repair here and there but so much character. I really do prefer this to huge modern venues.

my costumes were a big hit ;-) and people again especially liked my veil dance and raks bedaya. allthough i wanted to kill the light technician after my set: i danced my entire second set in black light!!!!! not the plan!! but since there was a lot of surround light from the theatre, apparently it was fine and people could still see my expressions etc... overall, quite happy with it.

there will be a dvd, but i dont know when i will get it or when it will be available generally. cant wait to get it myself as i so very very little of the other dancers performances.

A lot of it are things I've purchased and just don't wear due to having so much.

So it all needs new homes that can show it the love that I cannot... =)
The tribal type jewelry I have up so far would be a great addition to any tribal/ATS costume!

i'll be teaching and performing at the Joy event in Yorkshire (Shipley, UK) in april 2008. i will be teaching veil (of course) and lower intermediate technique.

details will be up soon on www.jewelofyorkshire.co.uk if anyone wants to join me there. international guests will also be Aida Noor and Leyla Jouvana, plus a dozen of good UK Teachers!

i just came back from the October Joy and it's a fantastic festival, very nice and friendly, well organised, etc... i really enjoyed performing there, as it's a beautifull hall.

i've got some flyers and booking forms for april if anyone is interested too. supposedly there are cheap flights up to leeds, but i still have to check those out... i might be joining Beatrice in the long drive up there, if she feels up to it.

Professional Belly Dance Troupe (e)motion

Finally we are starting our professional Belly Dance Troupe (e)motion!

After several performances last year with the advanced students, and more and more gig requests for several dancers, (Aurea, Klavertje, Me, Duo Bintani and some others have been busy!) we have decided we need to start working, that we are capable of doing this if we get organised! so we are professionalising our set-up, we are ordering better troupe costumes, will have weekly rehearsals, etc! If we are going to do this, i want us to do it well!

launch meeting is this wednesday and we already have several exciting gigs lined up! i'm really looking forward to rehearsing and performing with you all.

more info here and on the website soon. In this first phase, we are working on "invitation only" base, but in the future we will evolve to open auditions, so check back regularly if you are interested!

18-19u. Halfgevorderden I. Deze reeks is geschikt voor halfgevorderde danseressen die al minstens 2 jaar les volgden. Dit trimester ligt de nadruk op techniek, isolaties en coördinatie. We besteden echter ook aandacht aan het leren zélf gebruiken van ons groeiende dansvocabularium, via creatieve dansoefeningen en combinaties (kleine stukjes choreografie). We willen weg van de losse pasjes en evolueren naar echte dans!

19-20u. Halfgevorderden II. Deze reeks is geschikt voor halfgevorderde danseressen die al minstens 3 jaar les volgden. Dit trimester ligt de nadruk op gevorderde techniek (Egyptische en Amerikaanse stijl), isolaties, en combinaties. Daarnaast werken we ook aan het in elkaar steken van eigen choreografische of geïmproviseerde sequenties.

21-22u. Gevorderden. Enkel op uitnodiging. Dit trimester ligt de nadruk op gevorderde techniek (Egyptische en Amerikaanse stijl), het uitwerken van eigen combinaties, persoonlijke uitstraling en de communicatie op de scène (de relatie danseres/danseres en danseres/publiek).

Elke cursus heeft een andere inhoud, je kan dus meerdere groepen combineren.

Geen nood: in deze workshop bekijken we samen de basiselementen van een degelijke introductieworkshop: opbouw, opwarming en cool down, houding, basisbewegingen uitleggen en vaak voorkomende fouten verbeteren, danspedagogie, etc. Deze workshop maakt nog geen professionele lerares van je, dat vergt jaren training! Je krijgt wel de basiselementen in handen om op een veilige en leuke manier een informele workshop te begeleiden.

Gezien de vele aanvragen die wij de vorige weken ontvingen, richten wij enkele extra beginnerscursussen in. Daarmee liep de planning een klein beetje vertraging op. U kan zich normaal vanaf zaterdag 18 augustus inschrijven via de website

Nog even geduld dus!

Als alles goed gaat zijn de beginnerscursussen op dinsdag (20-21 en 21-22), donderdag (18-19) en zondag (10-12), de doorstroming op donderdag (21-22) en de half-gevorderden en gevorderden als vanouds op woensdag.

Teacher Training Workshops. Part One: Teaching an Introduction Workshop

As anounced, we will be starting a series of workshops, for advanced students interested in working towards teaching and performing. these workshops will be both for those who are already teaching, as for people who are just starting out.

we're starting with the first one on sunday 18th november, 10-13 in sportoase, Leuven.

"Teaching an introduction workshop".

Have you ever been asked to teach an introduction workshops for friends, family, neighbours, colleagues, your youth movement, etc, .... and panicked a little? Stop worrying! This workshop will give you the necessary tools to conduct a short introduction workshop. we will go over posture, safe training-, warm up- and cool down-practices, lesson planning, basic technique and how to teach and correct it, some dance pedagogy and some ideas on how to keep your students in the mood, relaxed and entertained!

No, this workshop will NOT make you a professional teacher, that takes years and years of training, not just a few hours! It's an introduction that does what it says: coaching you how to teach a beginners workshop....

For who: you need to have at least a few years of bellydance training behind your belt, and be not only familiar, but already confident with basic technique. You do not have to have any teaching experience yet, but if you are, this workshop will give you new ideas and fresh inspiration.

On 13 and 14 Leyla does a fantatisch drumsolo, and Ava Fleming does some scary stuff with a sword!

een kleine update dat iedereen weet waar zich aan te verwachten en waar alvast naar uit te kijken

- in oktober een nieuwe hafla (met vooraf workshops met een gastdocente, dat wordt een goede gewoonte)

- in december een hafla super de luxe versie, met optredens, gasten, en deze keer ook... publiek

- een benefietavond met optredens en lekkers, voor onze cairo-reis

voor 2008 plannen we tot dusver

- meer hafla's natuurlijk, we blijven er 1 à 2 per trimester houden

- de eerste week van de paasvakantie een dansreisje naar Cairo (voor meer info email artemisia_danst@yahoo.co.uk)

- een show in Leuven met alles erop en eraan! (okt 2008)

dus allemaal goed blijven dansen tijdens de zomermaanden! want daarna vliegen we er weer in!

workshops for teachers (or almost teachers)

hey all,

just an update for everybody on some things that are 'in the works'

me and some international dance friends (very qualified instructors with years of experience!) are brainstorming about offering some teacher training workshops in Belgium. i'm also getting professional help in from people such as professional physiotherapists, sports and movements teachers and professional trainers. if we can generate enough interests there would be some more international guests too.

we would be offering topics ranging from safe warm up and cool down practices, first aid, safe dance training practices, but also practical stuff as how to explain belly dance technique (different levels, basics and beyond), how to choreograph for students, how to teach choreography, how to draw up lesson plans, how to build up a lesson and series of lessons, styles of learning, about rhythms, culture, different styles, professional ethics, etc. etc. etc.

i have been informally training subs for a while now, and would like to formalise this and share it. we feel there is really a need/demand for this, as so many people are starting to teach beginners classes, that maybe do know how to dance already, but would not mind some help on how and what to teach?? i was also just thinking about what i lacked when i started teaching and the workshops i would have loved to follow myself then, and even now.

we are thinking one or two weekends at the moment....

NO, we are not going to offer a full teacher training program, leading to certificates and such, we do NOT want to create NEW teachers, these courses will be formost for people who are already teaching (or just started) and who are interested in some furter education ('bijscholing') to become better teachers!

if you are interested in such a program, drop me a line, tell us who you are and what you are looking for. we are still in the planning phase so are really interesed in the input of new teachers out there!!
