I have always had trouble with this move. Is the head supposed to be completely still or does it move a little with the knee shimmy?

the knee shimmy generates movement through a continual criss crossing of the knees in a fashion as though you are running n the spot with flat feet.
therefore, this movement propells a shimmy motion up to the waist and hip area, very similar to the araeas that move wihilst running or walking. from the bottom of the ribs up, nothing moves. isolation practice should kick in with this movement and the ribcage, sholders and head are held as perfectlystill as possible. (but not strained into position)
i hope this makes sense! =o)

Re: The Egyptian Knee Shimmy
Sat, March 8, 2008 - 3:06 AMI have seen Jillina explain the Egyptian shimmy on her instructional dvds: she fully locked the knees and indeed started hopping up and down in a way that looked a little funny, even during the performance (view her first instructional video). You couldn't balance anything on your head with that movement.
I would never lock my knees so this doesn't happen. Neither have I seen Jillina "hop" like that later.

Sat, March 8, 2008 - 5:25 AMHey, Pandora:
Think HADIA! Any of her DVDs, that's her "famous thigh shimmy" as she calls it. Head doesn't move.
