Hi, All-
Since I'm new to this tribe this may have been discussed before, but I was wondering if you are performing outside are those fan veils (you know what I'm talking about?) easier to handle than a regular veil in breezy conditions?
Also--where is a good place to purchase them that isn't too expensive?
What is an average price for them?
Thanks!

Jenna Francis of Jhip Designs dances divinely with her fanveils, but she stiffed a LOT of people who ordered from her and paid in advance so DON'T buy from her.
There is a little bit of discussion in the comments of my youtube video about getting cheap but relatively OK silk fanveils from Universal_Curio cgi.ebay.com/5-feet-hand...aultDomain_0 on Ebay. After seeing Jenna's dance, I wanted some fanveils but I didn't want to pay a lot of money in advance then get stiffed. The bamboo splines were a little rough but the colors are good, plus they will provide whatever colors you want if you send them an ebay message. They cost around $25 including shipping for a pair of 1.5 meters, and they arrived within three weeks.
I notice there are several other sellers of fan veils on Ebay, and I have seen fan veil vendors at festivals as well. Some of them have plastic splines which seem to snap open/closed more smoothly and with a nice "CRACK!" sound for emphasis. There are also various belly dance suppliers who sell the parts for you to make your own custom fan veils. I suggest you get a cheap pair to beat the crap out of while you learn how to handle the fan veils, then buy/make a nicer more expensive pair when you have learned not to snag them on your jewelry, drag them on the ground, etc.

Re: fan veils?
Mon, September 14, 2009 - 8:20 AMThey are easier outside in windy conditions than veils, but can still be quite a challenge if the wind is more than a light breeze.
Some vendors:
Originales by Faye www.faye4u.com
Stellar Advantage www.stellaradvantage.net
Fairy Cove Silks www.fairycovesilks.com
Belly Dance Props www.bellydanceprops.com
Belly Dance Fans www.bellydancefans.com
Prices range from about $40 to $80 per pair for the 1.5 meter/5 ft fan veils.
Have fun!!
