I just bought a shamadan and I was wondering if there was a specific type of candle I should get, or can I use any taper candle? Thanks for the help. Ursula/Cybella

Re: shamadan candles???
Mon, June 23, 2008 - 9:09 PMmy friend uses tiny battery operated lights, I've bought them myself at the dollar store, white base (looks like a tealight) also can find them on blossom gifts, they look great. she put them on using sticky velcro tape. works excellent. -

Re: shamadan candles???
Tue, July 8, 2008 - 5:20 PMI mostly use regular white Emergency Candles. They are cheap, ( nine to a a dozen per pack and usually under four bucks) but still tall enough to look impressive, don't drip ( much) and are lighter on your head if you have a large shamadan.
If are using dinner tapers, make sure they fit into the candleholders on the shamadan very tightly- the added height makes it easier for them to come loose. i usually drip some wax into the holder and secure the candle that way. also some tapers may have ends that are too large to fit into your shamadan ( you can 'shave" them with a knife to scale them down) or too small to fit securely. in this case, I wrap the ends in a bit of tin-foil to make the fit more snug.
Make sure you clean out your drip cups after every use, otherwise it'll build up and spill over onto your hair.
