Have a friend who wants to get some Isis wings but she is 5'1" tall. Most of the wings out there say they are for dancers 5'4" to 5'9". Thought of children's wings but afraid that the "wing span" would be too short. Does anyone know where she could get some wings she won't be tripping over? Thanks!

Re: Isis wings for the petite dancer
Fri, July 11, 2008 - 3:29 PMMost wings that I have seen are around the same size in length. I am 5'2" and had to shorten the second pair of wings I got a while ago. There are two options: you can fold it over the collar at the neck, or sew the wings up inside the collar to shorten it a bit. I sewed mine so it's more secure. Now I have so many pairs of wings for performing and I sell them on my website. They are just one size, but I have only had to shorten one pair. Sometimes I wear boots when I'm performing with wings, so that also helps.
I recently got a new stock of wings with many colors, so if you know what color your friend wants, I can try to find the shortest length...but it still may have to be shortened depending on personal preference. Typically, the wings should go down to your ankles, this looks the best and gives a nice flowing look.

Mon, July 21, 2008 - 9:36 AMYou might investigate custom wings by Ayshe:

They are more expensive than other places, but she asks for your measurements. I have not purchased any, so I cannot give you any feedback.

Re: Isis wings for the petite dancer
Thu, December 11, 2008 - 1:18 AMHi there!
I often have this problem also, as everyone in my troupe is short! Our tallest dancer is 5'6" and our shortest is 5'1", unless you count our close associate, who is about 4'9". What we do is custom fit the wings after we order them, then mark the dancer's name on the inside of the neck piece. You can do this by taking up the hem all the way around if it's only a little too short, or you can roll the neck down and sew it if you need more dramatic shortening. If the sticks are too far out (you have a drape of fabric under your arms instead of the fabric following the line of your arm) you can take out the seam holding them down, scoot them up through the fabric tube and then tack down the other end so they stay.
Between one or a combination of these techniques, you should have perfect Isis wings in no time!
Altering your wings leaves you with more options as to the ones you can buy, so you have a broader section without worrying about size.
Hope this helps,

Fri, July 10, 2009 - 5:06 PMi'm 4'11" i took my Wings to my tailor and had him hem them at the bottom. he pushed the sticks up when he did this. i also got the excess fabric and plan to make some costume pieces from it. i might have enough to cover a bra. -
