Hi I am looking to spice up our bellydance performances for the general public by adding a small routine bellydancing on glasses. i have seen some youtube videos but i wanted to know if anyone knew of a dvd, or a website with instructions on purchasing glasses and any info. Anything will be helpful. My boyfriend is scared to death that i want to perform on glasses. The more research i do the more comfortable i think it will make him and probably me :)

Re: dancing on glasses
Fri, October 23, 2009 - 6:13 AMHi Lauren. I don't know of any dvds but here's a link to an article I found helpful ...
americanistan.com/id62.html
I haven't performed on goblets yet but have practiced a bit. Biggest thing I was taught was to check the glasses every time you dance with them - looking for chips or flaws in the glass. -

Re: dancing on glasses
Wed, October 28, 2009 - 7:09 PMChris-that was an excellent webpage with good info. I'm glad Lauren posted this--it hadn't occurred to me to do so (thanks, Lauren!).
Years ago I did a glass dance and am thinking of doing one again soon (though time may not permit as I'm "down" in my back..again!). Other than seeing a youtube video of Tiffany Bisconer the only other person I've seen do an outstanding glass/goblet performance was in 2001 by Arella of Tennessee (she attended a Zahra Zuhair seminar Zuri Dance Co. hosted in Mobile). She incorporated some great floor work into hers and at one point balance one goblet on her forehead during her floorwork. I think Arella is no longer dancing but she was very good.
Thanks, again!

Re: dancing on glasses
Mon, November 2, 2009 - 1:12 PMDunyah al Hana, from the music group Americanistan, is the glass-dancing expert here in the northwest, I think. She does teach private lessons, if you ever get out to Eugene, and she does travel occasionally to workshops!
(She's here on tribe, in my friends list, you could PM her.)
