Any one here know lots about voi? I'm looking into learning. I have a couple questions that google couldn't answer, though.
1: do voi have to be silk? I know it's beautiful and perfect and flowing, but it's also really pricey.
2. Where do you buy voi? I know I can just buy a veil and tie it on, but they're typically a different size, right? I'm on a strict budget too :P
Thank you all so much!

Re: Voi: Super Noob Questions
Fri, September 11, 2009 - 8:30 PMI don't think they have to be silk. Just like other veil work some people use chiffon and rayon and all that's out there that looks pretty. Just make sure as with any veil it catches the air and floats.
You can defiantly make your own set. Just make sure you weight the ends of your strings properly. If its two heavy it'll drag and if its too light it won't float right. Play with it till you find the right balance.
I've seen some people use half circle veils and some people use veils that were 3 yards long but instead of 45 inches wide they shorten the width to anywhere between 24 - 35 inches. When its a bit narrower then your standard veil you can do more tricks.
Hope this helps. -

Re: Voi: Super Noob Questions
Sat, September 12, 2009 - 7:34 PMi have made voi from chiffon and silk and silk is definatly better. they flow and fly better. i make my leashes from ball chain and use a beanbag (i make my own ) to weight the end. The best type of leash is one based on a poi leash. most voi are made from 6 ft veil. i have nine foot voi. i can work them but they are more difficult then the shorter ones. i didnt have the heart to cut them. You can find inexpensive silk veils on ebay. lenght is more of an issue then width is.
