The snake is an animal. It has a backbone, heart, red blood, drinks water, eats food, breathes air, feels fear, just like every other animal in the world. And it's in a body that is the hardest thing for the average person to understand.
Dave Barker

Just a reminder...
A snake is a living breathing dance partner, please treat them with care and respect. They are wild animals and they can and will bite. Just be sure it is not an audiance member that gets bit. Also please be sure you have the venues permission and alert your audiance that a live snake will be appearing, that way those with fear of snakes may leave for your performance, or they just may not be allowed in because of health codes.

Please keep these things in consideration when performing with snakes they are not just props. I call them partners.
There is also a great tribe for more questions about dancing with snakes.

I've discovered that I really like dancing with props. From Zills, Veils, Swords, ........

so now I'm interested in getting some dance fans. But I don't know where to start.

Would anyone have advice on where I could get a good quality pair of dance fans, for what is hopefully a cheap price?
Where could I aquire a glowing white ball?
Would belly dancing with such an orb be viable one or would it be too tricky to really be worth trying?

The set was purchased through Bearclaw Manufacturing and here's a link to the set on their site http://www.bearclawmfg.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/38/products_id/163?osCsid=2f31705008e4fab5b66201519ad4f54d
The only reason I'm selling these is because I decided I would prefer to use 9" fingers, so I would consider a trade for a set of 9" fingers in good condition. Otherwise, I'm asking $100 for this set and I accept paypal or check. Please PM me with questions.
I have still been looking for the more authentic, long handled, ones. And I found them. But they are rather expensive (given that they are technically just wooden spoons - $17.00 per pair - and to play authentically, you'd need two pair).

http://larkinthemorning.com/product.asp?pn=SPO011&Wooden+Spoons=&bhcd2=1203457540

Then I also found these on ebay which look very similar. And I was wondering if anyone here thought they would work just as well, or is there something special about the design for the musical ones that makes them special?

I was going to buy the one from Kult of Athena, but they're backordered and I was told it would take at least a month for them to come in and I need one much sooner than that. Does anyone know if there's a difference between the two that would account for the major price difference (I did notice that the weight is the same...)? How well do they balance? Do you have to flip the hilt to make it balance properly? Any info/advice would be greatly appreciated! This is my first sword, and I don't want to get ripped off and pay double what I should, but I also don't want to waste my money on something hat is poor quality.

It may be because of the shape of the goblets I have, or that my feet keep sticking to the glasses, or that my base board which is a piece of paneling has too much friction. Or it very well could be that Veda makes it look way easier than it really is. I'm hoping that it's the shape of the goblet, so I'm looking for similar goblets. I'm curious about the style of goblet Veda Sereem uses in her instructional video, and I've searched all around my area for restaurant supply stores with no luck. I found a case of 12 12oz. goblets for $40 online, and I'm about 2 thoughts away from purchasing them, but obviously 12 is way too many. Does anybody want to split a case of goblets with me? Or do you have at least 4 bellydance-strength goblets you would be willing to sell me? Here's an example of the style I'm interested in (wide mouth):

i'm looking to sell 2 - 3 zen ptah swords, made in australia, stainless steel blade - two have bronze handles and "stones" inlaid into the blade/handle. Good balance points, scimitar shape, very "pretty" sword but also very cabaret to me, and I've fallen under the spell of the mighty Cas Iberias. GREAT beginners sword - they are all heavy swords easy to control.

I'll post pics in my profile or send if you're interested. Retail these swords are over $300 each and very hard to come by...if you're interested shoot me a message as I'll be posting to ebay at the end of the week otherwise.

The metal structure is covered in a layer of black felt and then with a top layer of stretch velvet. The hat should be dampen with water while performing in it. It is sewn to a base cap that will fit snug to the head if it is to large you can tie scarf abound you head to make a snug fit. It id decorated with sequin trim, metal beads and shells. More ornaments can be added if you like. The hat also has tie end that can tie under the neck. The metal dish that will hold the flame can be replaced if ever need by unscrewing and just replacing with another cat food can.
This is the 2nd fire hat I have ever made. It may be the only one around I think the 1st one has be lost.
This is a one of a kind piece and remember when you use this you need to have someone who is watching the flame, You will not be able to see it. This fire hat is 75.00 plus shipping. email for more questions and photos
Swords - I have a saber, a beheader and a scimitar I am going to convert into a fire sword.
Veils - circles, half circles, 3 & 4 yard rectangles, double half circles.
canes - dainty decorated canes and heavy traditional canes, double canes
sticks - decorated with ribbon. My 'trick' is to balance on my head and drop them to balance on the small of my back/butt. I also lay on my back an roll them on my belly.
Candles/lotus candle holders.
Tray with items on it.
Coins - flip them on the belly.
snake - it is a rather realistic rubber snake that I put around my neck/waist and do tribal like moves.

Okay...so I bought a sword a week ago and I am in love with it. I have no problem balancing it and I want it to be on my head ALL the time. I just started choreographing a sword piece with 2 other ladies and I noticed that they were wearing some thick velvet headbands to balance their swords on, and that brought up tons of questions on the subject.
Oh, experienced sword people, would you guys help a newbie out?
Does the headband detract from the mistique a sword brings to the dance? I mean, will people think that the headband's a trick to keep the sword in place?
Is the headband just for practice, to cushion the skull from the sword? Does it keep people from getting headaches when they balance it for long periods of time? I don't really have a problem with my head hurting (it starts to hurt at about 40 minutes of balancing, I'm hard headed :P) so should I wear one? Will keeping a sword on your head for long periods of time toughen up your head or just hurt it?
I'm sorry I've got so many questions, but i'm new to this... :) Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Recently I asked about any videos on dancing with trays and I was directed to www.beledi.com.

I bought Medeea's Tray Chic video and was asked to give an opinion on it after I viewed it.

I recieved it yesterday adn watched it last night. OK, first of all, Medeea herself says that the video quality is not that great. She has the camera on a tripod and she is doing everything herself. Which, while it doesn't make for great technical video, DOES give the video a neat sense of being in the room WITH her learning.

Now, as far as the content, I've got to say I was very happily surprised. I was expecting some basic information and some basic moves and then lots of performance. But she really takes her time. She shows how to select a tray and the items to put ON the tray. She explains how to prepare a tray.

When she gets into dancing with the tray, she really breaks down LOTS of moves that are usable for tray work. She goes into floor work.

There is a performance by her at the beginning and a performance at a hafla by one of her students at the end.

The rest is instructional. She even teaches some short practice routines which (althouth I did not try them last night) I am very sure will be helpful in getting the hang of putting moves together wiht a tray on your head.

She also includes written instructions with each of her videos (for this one that includes a breakdown of the practice routines).

So, anyway, overall, I was very pleased with this video.

As a side note: I also bought her sword video and fan video, but did not watch them yet.

And I bought two of her peacock feather fans (which are priced amazingly reasonably). They are absolutely gorgeous. She includes instructions on care and how to strengthen them for performance. If you are interested in working with fans, I would 100% recommend checking out her website.

I think many call fallahi to the gallop.

does this happen to anybody else? I anyway need to buy a new good pair of cymbals, but smaller, because I brought the big pro pair when I moved to england and I had enough of them, so anyone can recommend a good pair, normal size, of cymbals?
thanks
