Have you gotten an email from an ebay seller asking for a 5 star rating? Something like this:
"When you give 4 stars, it may seem like a great score; for instance a 4 in
Shipping Time means "Quickly", eBay, however, considers this to be a sub-par
mark. Their standards require sellers to maintain a 4.8 and above or be
penalized with higher fees and more.
If you were pleased with this transaction, please respond with all 5 stars!
If you are not pleased, let us know via e-mail and we'll work to make it
a 5-Star experience."
This ticks me off. I won and paid for my item over a week ago. The seller is in California. The item is a DVD. There is nothing this seller can do to make it a 5 star rating at this point just cause of the length of time in shipping. I've bought from other ebay vendors who have my item to me within 3 days.
Other online vendors - Flying Skirts and BellyDanceShoppe have also had my items to me within 3-4 days.
So, it is possible to be really quick, but they're not. Are they going to give me bad feedback if I give the 4?
Thanks for listening...

Re: Fishing for high ratings
Mon, August 24, 2009 - 6:46 AMI have had that - but I only received my item after the closing date for feedback so it was a moot point.

Re: Fishing for high ratings
Mon, August 24, 2009 - 7:04 AMI didn't think vendors could give customer feedback anymore?
That was one of the complaints from vendor friends a while back & why they ditched ebay-
I haven't been on ebay for some time now, since some of my favorite vendors, friends & family started getting screwed over with their new policies which favor big vendors rather than small auctions, and offer no real protection to said small vendors, so I'm curious where things stand now.

Re: Fishing for high ratings
Mon, August 24, 2009 - 7:57 AMThe seller only sees your positive, neutral, or negative feedback rating. Detailed ratings for shipping time, shipping charges, communication, etc. are anonymous.
From eBay...
More fast facts about Feedback:
Along with an overall rating, buyers can also rate sellers on the details of the purchase. These detailed seller ratings are anonymous, and don't count toward the overall Feedback Score.
Since Feedback becomes a permanent part of your record, buyers are encouraged to contact sellers to try to resolve any issues before leaving neutral or negative Feedback.
Buyers can revise Feedback they've left for sellers in the case of a mistake.
Sellers can leave only positive ratings for buyers. That means buyers should feel free to leave honest Feedback without fear of retaliation. We also have safeguards in place to protect sellers against unfair negative or neutral Feedback. -

Re: Fishing for high ratings
Fri, November 27, 2009 - 2:31 PMI buy a ton of stuff on ebay and I give out five stars if I think they deserve it. If I get and email like this one, they don't get five stars unless they REALLY deserve it. Personal communication goes a LONG way with me. I love any Seller who sends me a personal note, not an automated one to tell me my stuff is on the way. Automated notes still count, to be sure, but the personal ones get that higher rating.

Re: Fishing for high ratings
Fri, October 16, 2009 - 8:11 AMThe rating of buyers by sellers was stopped by ebay for that concern - they did not want sellers and buyers to be on par rating wise, because who needs to be credibly rated? the commercial seller. For future buyers' reference. Having the seller pressure buyers to rate them favorably is a very suboptimal system with regard to ebay's aim of providing credibly excellent sellers to buyers.
I'd say you should not be worried about reverse ratings as IMO they were discontinued by ebay some time ago.

Re: Fishing for high ratings
Thu, November 12, 2009 - 11:03 PMThis is interesting because, though this isn't an issue for me, lately I've noticed that there are sellers on Ebay that won't sell to you unless you have a certain rating as a buyer.....again, I buy all the time so not an issue for me....but what if you are a new buyer or something. Very strange!
And yes, I'm tired of getting emails 'reminding' me to leave feedback for an item I purchased. It's rather annoying.... -

Re: Fishing for high ratings
Fri, November 13, 2009 - 8:57 AMThat being said, I like to wait until after I get feedback on etsy to return feedback. I used to just give happy feedback across the board until I got hit by a girl who apparently wasn't happy with -anything- . . . except for how, when I asked, she said she was and didn't want me to fix/return anything.
