Has anyone ordered anything from Unicorn Belly Dance Supplies? I want to buy some zills but have never heard anything about them before.

Wed, June 25, 2008 - 11:29 AMThe people at Saroyan can be pretty snotty and I have never experienced fast service with them. The last time I tried to order finger cymbals from Saroyan the website stated that they were only taking orders for two weeks out of the month, so I would have had to wait two weeks to even place my order. I do like Saroyan finger cymbals, however, so if you are willing to wait and deal with a rude response to any inquiry, definitely order from them.
The last time I needed a quantity of finger cymbals for a workshop I contacted Turquoise International. Very friendly and they shipped the order exactly when they said that they would.

Mon, June 23, 2008 - 7:50 PMI have ordered from them once and it was not a great experience. I ordered a bra drape to match my Cost Less belt. I seem to remember there were other issues, but the major problem was that the piece was sent in a padded envelope with no other protection. The piece arrived with the metal filigree broken and some mirrors missing. I called Unicorn to let them know about the damage and they told me "that's why we include replacement parts". Really? To fix damage from SHIPPING? Seriously?
I've not dealt with them again. That said, there are definitely better places to buy cymbals from, including Saroyan himself. -

Fri, June 27, 2008 - 1:19 AMSaroyan's wholesale prices suck and so does their customer service for the most part. Sad b/c their zils are really the best and I like to collect zils.
Turquoise has good service, decent wholesale but the sound is hard and clanky.
I have heard Zildjian makes good finger cymbals but havent investigated beyond hearsay. -

I also have a few others...actually they all came from Unicorn Belly Dance supplies..so cannot speak to customer service of other places (no experience with that - just the zills themselves).

Sat, July 5, 2008 - 6:48 PMThe only reason I can see for poor customer service at Saroyan is that demand is simply so great and they seem to be trying to keep things on a small scale for the most part. That's one way they can insure high quality! I have talked to Harry and he has been the nicest man to work with, but very, very busy! They can offer larger discounts to big buyers, so if you are looking to retail Saroyan zils, you can actually get a better deal on some zills buying through a distributer, but you still have to wait because of demand. What a great 'problem' to have- too much demand! -

If you are looking for something specific...I highly suggest just calling and talking with her as she has a wide variety of zills and well everything really!
She also stands behind her sales......very honest business owner ... the length of time she has been in business kind of speaks to that.
Yes she is a friend too so I admit that I am biased but really it is true.....all my students shop with her and have never been disappointed. I shop there too ... so you are speaking with a happy customer.....hahaha....
