I'm cross-posting this to a couple of yahoo groups, tribes, Bhuz, etc., so apologies if you see this twice:
I just joined Swaptree, an online site that facilitates trading books, CDs,
movies, and videogames by calculating multi-person trades. (i.e., person A gives a book to person B who gives a DVD to person A.) It solve the problem of "I want something you have but I have nothing you want", not to mention that it lets you get new stuff without spending money, and saves a lot of waste/trees/etc.
I'd REALLY like to see more belly dancers join, so we can get more belly dance videos and CDs in circulation. It's only open to users in the US right now, unfortunately, but they say that they intend to change that eventually.
HOW IT WORKS:
To use it, you list the items that you have to trade, and a wishlist of
items you want. For each item on your "have" list, Swaptree will tell you which items you can get in exchange for it.
When you want to initiate a trade, you click the "get it" button for the
item you want. Swaptree sends mail to everyone involved in the trade, and once everyone confirms, you can buy a pre-paid shipping label from swaptree and drop the item in a mailbox, or just take it to the post office and buy your postage there.
No money changes hands, although you do pay to ship the item you're trading away (and again, you don't have to get the label from swaptree).
If someone else initiates a trade for something on your wishlist, Swaptree
emails you to make sure that you still have the item you'd be trading away, that you still want the item you'd be getting, and that you are willing to trade with the person in question. (The system uses an ebay-style rating system, so you can opt out of trades with people with questionable feedback.)
You can join at www.swaptree.com. Feel *completely* free to join on your
own, but they're offering free pre-paid shipping labels in exchange for new member referrals. (One free label for each person you refer who joins and completes a trade by May 31st.)
If you're willing to be my refer-ee, PM me your email address, and I'll send you an invitation.
Enjoy!
Nadira
p.s. speaking of free stuff, the deadline for the Taktaba DVD giveaway I'm
running in honor of World Belly Dance Day (which was last saturday) is coming soon. If you'd still like to enter, please do so by noon eastern time
this coming Monday, May 19th. You can enter at:
