Vadalna, Solace Remixed
Solace
CD Review
Track List
1. Khushee Mannano; 8:21
2. Desert Journey; 4:11
3. Cybele; 4:59
4. Nataraja; 4:35
5. Khatar; 6:22
6. Saptak;5:15
7. Darban Jooth Naboley; 5:36
8. Exiled; 7:11
All these songs appear on other Solace cds, but the electronic remixing sets these songs apart. Unlike typical Techno or Electronic music, these songs retain their original, rich character. Textured instrumentation, interesting rhythm changes, unique sounds and judicious use of electronic drums create music that is deep and exciting.
Kushee Mannano incorporates interesting non-musical sounds, like static. Desert Journey has a lively steady beat with mysterious overtones. Cybele cycles through slow, spooky drums, yips and zills, leaps to life with drums, fades to distant yips, and finally slips into a steady techno beat before repeating the cycle. Nataraja features human voices, without words, along with fun breaks, pauses and rhythm changes. Khatar steps right into a lively rhythm with a synthesizer, creating a fresh piece that’s reminiscent of Ramal Lamar. Saptak layers more almost eerie melodies over funky beats. Darban Jooth Naboley is lighter, faster and fun. Exiled ends the cd with haunting melody and wordless voices over steady drums.
I really enjoyed this cd. It’s the kind of music that you can listen to over and over again and still hear something new and fresh each time. These remixed versions might be more accessible to younger or western ears that are used to techno or new age music.
You might like this cd if you
• Like Electronica or Solace
• Are looking for very modern or techno music
You probably don’t want this cd if you
• Are looking for traditional songs
• Are looking for Middle Eastern music (aka Egyptian music)
• Are looking for folk musicians or traditional bands or orchestras
