The word “Tribal” appears twice in the title of this cd and it was, in fact, created in conjunction with the original American Tribal Style dance troupe Fat Chance Belly Dance. Naturally, this cd is ideal for any Tribal performance. The renditions of folk tunes are great for any folkloric performance, and some of the dynamic drum solos could even work in a cabaret or tribaret setting.
The cd is a mix of folkloric tunes and original works. The percussion numbers are exciting and richly textured, although some of them start off kind of slow. The liner notes provide the rhythms used in each song, along with a brief history of Fat Chance and bios of the members of Helm.
I enjoy this cd, especially the lively, almost funky, percussion numbers.
You might like this cd if you
• Like Middle Eastern music
• Want music for Tribal or folkloric performances
• Are looking for shorter songs ideal for solos
• Are looking for music suitable for beginners
• Are looking for exciting percussion numbers
You probably don’t want this cd if you
• Are looking for orchestrated Egyptian style music
• Are looking for techno, pop or goth
• Are looking for modern music, or music from outside the Middle East

I have this one as well, and use it in ATS classes and for practicing and drilling at home, and I have performed ATS to some of these songs as well.

I'd add that this CD is also good if you are looking to practice zilling, or learning the rhythms for zilling. There are a few songs that are just one rhythm and it is easy to hear, as well as songs that switch between two rhythms only, each one used for a significant portion of time. Plus the tempo varies across the different songs, so even if you are practicing your triplets on the zills, you can practice them at different speeds.
