Here is a place to come to post anything to do with bellydance rhythms, whether it be zills or tabla playing, dance and rhythms or just shout out about your favourite tabla playing idol.
I and other percussionists and zillists who will join us later as this tribe becomes better known, are happy to answer any questions.
My introduction.
I am Samiya, an Australian bellydancer and percussionist, (percussion mostly self taught with many hours of research, practice and rehearsal time) and head Wide Bay Queenslands percussion group the Drums Of Egypt who are percussionists for our dance troupes Flaming Sands and TribalEyes. I am currently redoing our Flaming Sands Academy of Middle Eastern Dance website to include more about Drums Of Egypt as well as our new ATS troupe TribalEyes........so much so that I've just bought 25000 megabytes of web space to do it!
My percussion inspirations are Malfouf from the Nomadic Soul Drummers (my first percussion teacher), Jamal Zraika (who luvs ya baby!), Hossam Ramzy, Issam Houshan and of course Armando Mafufo (Oh those eyes, lol). And not to forget my percussion sisters!!!! Anne Harkin of Melbourne Australia and Susu Panpanim.
Enjoy this tribe.

Re: Welcome to Rhythms of the Dance
Wed, July 26, 2006 - 6:46 PMThanks for creating this tribe! I love percussion, and belly dancing is quickly becoming an addiction.
As for practicing, when being self-taught, what are some effective ways of practicing? -
