I would like to raise a virtual glass to two of my personal favorite musicians whose birthday fall on this day!
To Pyotr Tchaikovsky!
To Johannes Brahms!

Re: Happy Birthday
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 7:18 PMWell our oldest son loves Brahms and I am a big Tchaikovsky fan so this is practically a holiday. To celebrate we listened to both composers for several hours today. I didn't raise a glass of anything today but if I did it probably would have been something with vodka. ;-)
May the Earth rest lightly upon you gentlemen and may we never lose the capacity to appreciate your works.

Re: Happy Birthday
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 10:28 PMI thought about the Brahms Requiem a few days ago when comparing concerts with longish programs with some colleagues. I'm currently playing a short series of Bach B Minor Mass concerts, and that work alone runs about two hours and fifteen minutes or so.
Brahms has the honor of being one of very few nineteenth century composers I really like.
Anyway, belated flask-raising to them both. -
