Anyone else have a quirky instructor? Or is it just in my area? They all seem to be really out there!

  • We bellydancers seem to be a quirky bunch by nature. Thankfully we all found each other. :)

As for instructors, the first woman I took classes from was, to borrow a friend's term, "woogie woogie". She incorporated a lot of new age spirituality into her classes which wouldn't have been bad if there had actually been some dancing to go along with it. The last straw for me was the day we were told to curl up in blankets on the floor and then "emerge" from our cocoons. Um, what? Isn't this a bellydance class? I gave up on dance for a while after that. Fortunately, I found my current instructor. Barb/Zafia is amazing. She is a great dancer and instructor. She breaks things down and explains well. Best of all, she offers a lot of praise and will give constructive criticism when needed. I feel like I have grown so much having her as a teacher.
  • My first instructor is a little "quirky" you could say...

But I am completely loving taking classes from Molly of TribalTique right now. I am a bit of an obsessive organizer and my first teacher was anything but organized and Miss Molly is very organized! Ergo I'm vurry happy :)
