I'm hoping my tribe buddies can help me out. I fell in love with a Sa'idi song on a compilation CD I bought from a dancer who will remain nameless. I contacted her to see if she knew who the singer was, and she told me that the track was from the Mezdeke 5 CD. Further research revealed that the track is called "Keyf" on the original CD. The song is here if you want to listen to it:
www.turkishmusic.org/index13.html (Look down at the end of the Mezdeke section.)
I can understand enough of the lyrics to know what the song is about -- it's bragging about being a Sa'idi, and there are some flattering/flirtatious things being said to a woman. Would love to identify the singer in hopes of finding some more great songs from him. Any help would be appreciated. And, of course, if someone has already translated the lyrics, that would save a lot of time.

Re: Mezdeke 5, track called "Keyf" -- singer??
Wed, February 21, 2007 - 6:22 AMOooh! I'm sorry I can't help you with your question, but I too am in love with this song (and also have it on a compilation CD from possibly the same nameless dancer!) and have choreo'd a cane duet to it. I have been searching for the lyrics--your post is the first inkling I've gotten about what they mean.
I'll be watching the thread to see if anyone can answer your question, as I'd like to hear more from this singer also! -

Re: Mezdeke 5, track called "Keyf" -- singer??
Wed, February 21, 2007 - 1:08 PMThey should list the singer on the Mezdeke 5 CD. It might be worth purchasing the CD.

Re: Mezdeke 5, track called "Keyf" -- singer??
Fri, March 16, 2007 - 12:50 PMLatifa,
You also may want to ask Hadia, she has a choreography to this song that I love on her DVDs.
I don't know the artist either.
I have been looking for a translation of the song is there any way you could? A lttle more detail than described?! I asked in a different thread but got no response. :-)
Thanks in advance! ;-)

Re: Mezdeke 5, track called "Keyf" -- singer??
Sun, February 25, 2007 - 1:26 PMHey, Latifa--I was just going through some old mail and came across correspondence I had with the dancer I bought my compilation CD from--she said a friend of hers had the Mezdeke 5 CD but that it didn't list the singer. :-( -

Re: Mezdeke 5, track called "Keyf" -- singer??
Sun, February 25, 2007 - 2:08 PMTaj, thanks for the info. I ordered a copy of the CD, but given the usual lack of liner notes/track info, I wasn't holding my breath. ;-) -

UPDATE Re: Mezdeke 5, track called "Keyf" -- singer??
Thu, March 8, 2007 - 11:10 AMJust FYI, the original Mezdeke CD does *not* list the singer for this track. It's interesting -- the CD lists 12 tracks, but only 10 show up. The music on the rest of the CD is pretty good, though. Some of the tracks I recognize as being well-known Egyptian singers, although the track names have been Turkified. -

Re: UPDATE Re: Mezdeke 5, track called "Keyf" -- singer??
Fri, March 9, 2007 - 2:01 PMWho's the producer of the CD? You might try writing to them and asking about the Keyf singer. I was really frustrated at one time over the lack of info about the music on a DJ Nader CD--email to Mr. Nader got returned, so in desperation I turned to Maqam! and a very nice person there told me what they knew of the tracks I had questions about.

Re: UPDATE Re: Mezdeke 5, track called "Keyf" -- singer??
Wed, May 23, 2007 - 7:32 PMI wanted to let you know I have the translation to Keyf -
I just have to find it...
The other name for that song is Ana Saidi & it's what I danced to at the Fifi show. I will post the translation soon.
It was good to meet you

Re: UPDATE Re: Mezdeke 5, track called "Keyf" -- singer??
Wed, May 23, 2007 - 8:33 PMYup, Magdalena, you got our attention (me and the one troupe member who was there) when you danced to "our" song!! ;-)
I would love to have a full translation. I figured out enough of the words to know what the song was about but there were some lines that left me scratching my head.
It was great meeting you, and I loved your performance!! And so did Fifi!

Re: UPDATE Re: Mezdeke 5, track called "Keyf" -- singer??
Sun, June 3, 2007 - 5:58 PMUnfortunately I don't know who the singer is but I am working on finding out...
I still have to get those lyrics typed out for you - I have not forgotten...
We just got back from Bahaia's Austin shindig - lost of fun but we are tired!! -

Re: UPDATE Re: Mezdeke 5, track called "Keyf" -- singer??
Mon, June 4, 2007 - 5:53 AMNo rush, Magdalena, just happened to think of it yesterday. We're using this music in a show and the organizer's form asked for the name of the artist. I should PM you a funny story about that....
One of the thrills of the Fifi weekend was meeting Bahaia! I love her dancing, and was delighted to be able to chat with her about her dance background. Glad you had a good time at her event.

Re: UPDATE Re: Mezdeke 5, track called "Keyf" -- singer??
Fri, June 15, 2007 - 1:51 AMHi folks - just joined your tribe - Now I'm worried - it sounds like a group of women singing to me, not a man! I was wondering how the translation was going, and if you have the lyrics in Turkish. I've only been taking lessons for a few weeks, and this is one of the dances (as choreographed by Hadia) that I'm learning, and I love to sing along (badly!)
ishtar:) -

Re: UPDATE Re: Mezdeke 5, track called "Keyf" -- singer??
Sat, September 1, 2007 - 5:50 PMReal Player won't work for me, but there is an "Ana Saidi" track with a male singer on the Beata & Horacio "Enchanted Gardens" Oriental Fantasy Vol 11 CD www.oriental-fantasy.com/engli...k.html
It has a nice heavy drum beat to it. Dt..DD..DtDDD.. I dig it. Unfortunately, I can't get Keyf to play on my computer so I'm not sure if it's the same track. -
-
Re: UPDATE Re: Mezdeke 5, track called "Keyf" -- singer??
Thu, September 6, 2007 - 6:59 PMFor what it's worth, this is the same song. I prefer the Beata & Horacio version of the song to the Mezdeke "Keyf" version -- It's more earthy and better produced. -

Finally found the name!
Wed, July 25, 2007 - 4:35 AMWhen I was in Cairo, my hubby and I sang this song to one of my favorite music experts in the CD shop near Fishawi's Cafe. He started singing along with us and identified the singer as Ahmed Gohar, but said that the music was old and out of print. Since then, I've been searching various sites for CDs (really like his voice) but haven't found much. But at least I know the name now!! :-) -
