Zohar -Elokainu

Does anybody know if it would be offensive to dance to Elokainu? I understand that is a Hebrew word used in jewish prayers. I love the song but worried about offending someone.

    Hi Kasia,

I'm Israeli and Jewish. I don't see why anyone should be offended.
I don't know the song and the rest of the words of the song. Just make sure that it's not a 'Yom Kippur' prayer, that might not be appropriate, but then again depends on the dance.

If you have the words, I'll be happy to have a look to translate them
(by the way Elokeinu means 'our God')

Just saw this now (I realise its a bit late).

Elokeinu is a word that is actually used to mean "God" without actually being a word which means "God", if you know what I mean. Orthodox Jews believe it is a sin to throw away a piece of paper with God's name on it, or to use it frivolously, but sometimes that needs to be done. For example, when we wrote assignments in Hebrew class in school we often used Elokeinu (and other similar words) instead of the proper word, which would have an "h" instead of a "k". SImilarly, if we were practicing a song for a choir peformance which had the real word in it we would substitute it with Elokeinu instead. They also made us write God as G-d, for similar reasons. I think the singer has probably chosen this word out of respect, so that she is not "taking God's name in vain".
