Hi everyone!
I just wanted to know if there's anyone dancing tribal in the Liverpool area?
I'm moving there in september to study Vet med at university and am leaving behind all my tribal dance friends from home. I'd really like to carry on dancing when I'm there so if anyone has a troupe, class etc, I'd love to make some more connections and share some of my dance experience if there's anyone out there who will have me. :o)
I'm predominantly an ATS dancer who incorporates elements of tribal fusion and choreographs new combos for cued improv. I've previously studied in America, performed in professional troupes and worked as a tribal dance instructor.
So that's me :o). If anyone wants to get together and dance when I come down, let me know. I'm more than willing to share tips or give a bit of instruction to a study group who want to learn or just take a back seat role, anything really so that I can dance!!
xxxxx

Re: Tribal Belly Dance Scene - Liverpool, Troupes/teachers etc
Wed, June 3, 2009 - 10:43 AMThere are no tribal teachers in Liverpool at present but there is a small pocket of dancers and if you PM me when you get to Merseyside, I can put you in touch. There is a Merseyside Tribal Tribe and there are workshops in July this year with Sam Riggs eaching amongst others and a hafla!
I teach ATS moves in Ormskirk for a local evening college and have been hired to do the same the local college in Southport. I also teach semi-private lessons in Southport. The "Northern " line of Merseyside rail runs regular frequent servies between Liverpool and Southport and Liverpool and Ormskirk. As far as I know I am the only ATS teacher in the region but a friend also teaches her own fusion style in the area.
In Manchester both nIkki Franklin and Michelle Pender teach their own style of tribal also. That is it! -

I guess I'm really looking for other dancers I guess rather than teachers so that would be great if you could put me in touch with a few. -

Re: Tribal Belly Dance Scene - Liverpool, Troupes/teachers etc
Wed, June 3, 2009 - 1:02 PMBy the way...... I was not putting myself forward to teach YOU...
I fully realised your experiences far outweigh mine.
I teach mostly beginners and am trying to kick-start tribal troupes in Liverpool. You might come in very useful as a mentor and teacher to would -be tribal girls .
Although I have been dancing in troupes for 6 years, our experiences are mostly local and we still consider ourselves students and get to as many visting teachers as possible.
All I was doing was filling you in on the scene..the college does my recruiting for me..GRIN..and my classes might end up as totally Egyptian!!!!!! -

Re: Tribal Belly Dance Scene - Liverpool, Troupes/teachers etc
Wed, June 3, 2009 - 1:46 PMOh gosh I didn't mean to sound like I didn't want to be taught either! There's always something to learn from everyone, no matter their experience or your own, I consider myself a perpetual student ;o). The part of tribal that I enjoy the most is the joint learning of a group just throwing their ideas in and messing about with combos. Group inspiration I guess :) I suppose I'm just used to a troupe mentality....
It's great that you're active in trying to bring tribal to Liverpool! Sometimes the UK can seem a bit like the desert when you compare it to the US lol.
