For Sale (photo in album and on my blog)
Wildcard army and black extra large bloomers (XL 38"-40" hip). These panties are AMAZING but unfortunatley due to a 5 st weight loss they dont fit. I got them this morning and am gutted! the little buttons are so, so cute!

so, I want to sell these babies so I can go out and buy another pair. They haven't been worn (just to try on to find out they are too big)
I'm selling them for exactly what I paid for them and will put in all receipts to varify price (pants, postage and customs tax). The pants come with a lovely little wild card bag.
Postage in the UK (Recorded) is £5

Let me know if you are intrested (PM please as I rarley come to tribe anymore) - Pants £80

Cheers D

Hi - am looking for music which has a 'comic' feel, either solo or group. Not sure if I'm thinking in the right order here but does anyone have any suggestions?

Egypt, Sinai and UK Workshops

Hi - I am very pleased to announce that I will be running a Middle Eastern Music, Dance and Percussion Holiday in the Sinai on the 31st of October to 7th of November 2009 with my partner Maren Lueg and dancer Carmen Jones. Last year we travelled to the Sinai and Cairo for 6 weeks and we found a great Camp called RockSea in the Sinai run by a lovely German couple. They have invited us to run these workshops in their Geodesic dome at the camp within easy walking distance of the accommodation. After the workshop week we will be travelling to Cairo for a week or so and we are happy to help anyone who wishes to explore the music and dance opportunities which are there in abundance – performance, tuition and instrument buying etc. and how to generally deal with getting around Cairo. There is hopefully all the information you may require at my website click http://arabicdrum.co.uk/teaching_workshops.htm#Drum,_Music_and_Dance_Holiday_In_The_Sinai,_Egypt_Nov._2009_ for who we are, what is offered, costs etc. etc. I also have some upcoming workshops in the UK some of you may be interested in and I have new drums in stock for sale too – all this and more can be checked out at www.arabicdrum.co.uk
Cheers

Notes will be provided. Suitable for all levels, beginners welcome. Bring a bottle of water and wear comfortable clothes.

Does anyone know any Central Scotland based Circus Skills Performers?

This is for future use so dont get too excited lol. I am thinking of incorporating circus skills performers in something at some point. But cant afford the pros, so wondered if anyone knew anyone in Central Scotland that does it part time? Would need to be a bit of a wierd mix - suitable for family audience (so no nudity or piercing arms with hooks) but also be a bit more on the Circus freak and Macabre side of things

Looking for online sources to Educate myself more about styles of bellydance

So I am stuck in crappy weather, on holiday and looking to kill some time. I decided, therefore, that itd be a good opportunity to educate myself more about bellydance.

I am looking for online sources of info on: the different styles of dance so I know what each is and can tell them apart, the music that goes with each style e.g how do I tell if music is beladi or saidi. I would also like to learn about the history and other forms of dance that I often hear of bellydancers studying such as traditional Indian or Thai dance.

Any ideas for any resources folks?

COURSE INFORMATION:
A unique, versatile approach to the belly dance intensive, a weeklong designed for dancers that are looking for inspiration from an artistic standpoint and who are interested in honing their ability to express through dance. This intimate group exploration will stretch your notions of how dance can be striking on stage, and allow you to unlock new areas of creativity in your bodies, and your mind. The seminar brings together many of the styles and forms from dance to theater which Mira has carefully integrated into an exciting, powerful, liberating approach to creation, including:
personal expression, musicality, historical and contemporary contextual analysis, structured improvisation and choreography, focused writing exercises and more.
TESTIMONIALS:

"The short review is that you should just send Mira money now and reserve your spot for the next one. A tremendous workshop, thoughtfully orchestrated. The "intense" part of "intensive" was no joke. I just got home and am still processing, and I fully expect this workshop will shape the rest of my life. I gained more than I imagined, the growth was palpable, and I got a whole bunch of new close friends that I already miss -- all powerful beautiful women.... you should know that you should give yourself NO excuses -- SIGN UP NOW for the next one. Mira has created an amazing amazing thing here. A true gift to the art."
Lisa, Berkeley, CA

"This is one of the best dance experiences I have had! I have learnt so much about myself and therefore about me as a dancer/teacher and what I want to give to my audience and my students. The intensive is suitable for people from any background, even if they are very new to belly dance. It will open your eyes in so many different ways. I recommend it to everyone, and it is for that reason that I invited Mira over to teach this intensive in the UK." Hilde Cannoodt, Brighton, UK.

BellyNut Exclusive - International Tribal Immersion 2010

Hi everybody!

It's been a while coming, but BellyNut Tribal Exclusive events are back, and this one is a special one.

Put Saturday and Sunday 29th and 30th May 2010 in your diaries, now, people! You won't want to miss this.

Much of the UK tribal scene has been inspired by her since she brought her own unique fusion to our part of the world over four years ago long before any of the BDSS, and floored us all with her group's energy. Prepare yourself for a weekend of UK Exclusive workshops with the amazingly creative Director of the much missed world-renowned troupe Domba, Heidi Alexander! And here teaching and performing with her is the beautiful, mesmerising, and talented Domba dancer and Director of Bedouin Tribe, Gina Zavalas!

You can expect at least four inspirational and unique workshops of - oh believe me - an array of styles, and of course an evening performance hafla. Heidi has new props for you, some new moves for you, and Gina will tax your brain with her fantastic formation work. Some african touches, some classic Domba, and if there's room there may even be something entirely different.... I'm not giving things away just yet. :) As always, moves will be cued for group improvisation, and you can expect a low-key, informal, community atmosphere.

Further information will be given out in due course, and spaces will go on sale later on in the year. Workshop places will be limited and last time every single place sold with days. To go on the priority list and get a couple of weeks to grab your spaces before they go on general sale please e-mail me bellynut@bodhaiatribal.co.uk

Website will be updated very soon with the latest pictures.
Many thanks,
Nicola

S27" Melos for sale - London

I recently received my long awaited first pair of Melodias through the post from America. As I am very petite, I’ve struggled to find a pair of tribal trousers that aren’t ridiculously long on the length. I managed to find a pair through the Melodia ebay store with a 27inch inseam. Whilst I love these trousers and they do fit on the length just about, I’m a bit concerned that after a little shrinkage they are going to be slightly too short.

For this (very unfortunate) reason I’m trying to find them a new loving home where another petite person can finally have a pair of tribal pants that fit without the time and effort spent to make a pair themselves or have some custom made.

They are BRAND NEW and have only been worn when trying them on to see if they fit. I am not looking to make a profit, I just want to sell them on so I’m not out of pocket and can then buy a pair that are an inch or 2 longer.

This link displays them:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350137844194&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123

So again, they have a 27 inch inseam
Size Small (I’m a size 6 and they fit great but there is enough stretch for larger sizes)
Are fringe pants (the fringes are tied on either side to accentuate hip action!)
And are (deep) red in colour

Please get in touch ASAP if you want them, otherwise I’m going to try and send them back to America for an exchange within the next few days. I may be listing them on eBay in the meantime, so get in there quick before they’re snatched up!

I paid $91.72 with postage which was converted to £58.62 for them, plus I had to pay the Royal Mail £16.60 as they were imported from the US. So that’s £75.22, but I’ll round it up to £77 to account for postage. I live in London, so will only post them to people living within the UK and perhaps Europe.

I cannot stress how difficult it has been to find tribal pants with a short inseam, so if you’re also on the small side, get in there quick!!

Contact me at this email address to arrange payment and postage (or if you live in London I can come and meet you in person): m.agathangelou@gmail.com

'Waltzes, Glitches and Brass: The New Sounds of Vaudeville' is out and available now! Follow this link www.empcds.com/comp-vaudeville.html

If you're based in the UK and don't wanna pay overseas postage you can PM me direct as we have a few for direct sale. (UK distribution is being sorted). Or European customers, please contact Mags and More at: info@mags-and-more.de

Vaudeville, Music Hall, Freak Shows, Concert Saloons, Minstrelsy, Dime Museums, and Burlesque; all major forms of entertainment in the late 1800s/ early 1900s. A time where costuming and stagecraft was paramount, and a certain warped fascination with the bizarre and freakish, spliced with titillation and risqué humor, was the order of the day. Here the spirit of this evocative era is fused with dark waltz melodies, glitch electronic sounds, salacious burlesque, and gypsy brass for one of the most unique and lovingly crafted compilations you’re likely to hear this or any other year.

Compiled by Brit DJ/compiler Phil Meadley, with the assistance and advice of Frédérique (who appears on the sleeve), Rachel Brice, Jeremiah & Rachel Soto, and the big neon glitter.

How exciting! Hope you like it as much as we do : )

Tribal Belly Dance Scene - Liverpool, Troupes/teachers etc

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to know if there's anyone dancing tribal in the Liverpool area?

I'm moving there in september to study Vet med at university and am leaving behind all my tribal dance friends from home. I'd really like to carry on dancing when I'm there so if anyone has a troupe, class etc, I'd love to make some more connections and share some of my dance experience if there's anyone out there who will have me. :o)

I'm predominantly an ATS dancer who incorporates elements of tribal fusion and choreographs new combos for cued improv. I've previously studied in America, performed in professional troupes and worked as a tribal dance instructor.

So that's me :o). If anyone wants to get together and dance when I come down, let me know. I'm more than willing to share tips or give a bit of instruction to a study group who want to learn or just take a back seat role, anything really so that I can dance!!

xxxxx
Sunday 24th May 2009, South Kilworth, Leics/Warks/Northants border.

Workshop 1:
10.30 - 1pm - Improvisational Masterclass: Fun with Formations and Floorwork
Fun twists layered onto the ATS format that will add some exciting dynamics to an improvised performance.
All-new combos taught for the first time, some of which will utilise the material covered in Workshop 1. Back-to-back classes on powerful sword, upbeat skirt, and meditative candle is guaranteed to invoke the tribal magic in you. As always, the technique of every move will be broken down and drilled, and every combo is cued for improvised performance.
Put on your costume, try out the moves you've learnt in the day, show us some of your own, or just dance away with your friends loving the whole tribal connection. :)

BellyNut Tribal bazaar will be available throughout the day during breaks, and during the evening. Tea and coffee from the start to the finish of the workshops and an organic, vegan lunch is included in the price. Bring your own drinks/snacks for during the mini-hafla.

All workshops are open level and, other than the skirt, shouldn't be any more aerobically demanding than one of my classes (there are a lot of hours to be dancing in there!).

Tribal Fusion Workshop

Only six places left in this workshop.

Locks, Pops and Choreography Workshop on May 16th. Time 12 till 2.00pm

Selling fast, book now only £15 from www.darkstardance.co.uk

Locks and Pops are one of the defining moves of Tribal Fusion belly dance.

This workshop will focus on achieving sharp locks and pops through the understanding of our anatomy and isolation of core muscle groups. These moves will then be drilled repeatedly.

We will then learn a short choreography using all the drilled moves. This will show how locks and pops can be used in choreography to interpret the music and give dancers the feel of what it is like to perform as a tribal fusion dancer.

This workshop is suitable for both beginners and intermediate dancers who wish to learn and sharpen up moves and work towards performance. Bring a bottle of water and wear comfortable clothes.

We have become aware of a great deal of confusion about the Barefoot Festival, with various people expecting to see us there. We need to stress that Barefoot Bellydance have nothing to do with this festival. Barefoot’s Tribal Vibe is the only event we are organising in the UK, and we will not be at the event advertised as the Barefoot Festival.

However, we will be at Chepstow and Warwick Folk Festivals! Hooray!

Lulu Sabongi/IAMED videos/Very Cairo 1 CD for sale

Clearing out my bursting shelves - videos/cd's for sale - all £12/$15/11 Euros each or buy all 5 items for £50/$70/55 Euros. I made a mistake and got these again when I already had them!

Lulu Sabongi - "Art of Belly Dance - Posture"
Lulu Sabongi - "Rhythms 1"
Lulu Sabongi - "Rhythms 2"
IAMED's "Spins and Turns with Marguerite"
CD - "Very Cairo 1" - Ludmilla and Monika (brand new and sealed)

With excellent tuition and demonstrations, the videos have lots of performances from various different dancers, in stunning costumes that are very different from what we normally see. Although in Portugese, they are *very* easy to follow. Lului is Brazil's top dancer/teacher - she taiught Soraya Zaied who is now one of Cairo's top performers. She taught to rave reviews here in the UK at the recent JOY festival. All videos including the IAMED one run for about 90 minutes.

If you're in the UK, I'll throw in free postage.

HI Girls,
to those who are awaiting the bootie box, I think some of the delay has been due to xmas/new year post, but maybe if each person from now until the end of the chain can try & have a turn around of about a week? else it will be about June by the time I get it back!

The chain is listed below, it's currently with Mel, who I believe is ready to post it on, so please try & keep it speedy & put some nice goodies in there for the next person - I did end up with some random things by the time it ended with me on the first round of the box, and not all were particularly belly dance related!

If you can't remember who you post to, then PM me, although it should be in your message from me unless you've deleted it.

Thanks!

Me – Sarah Jones – Jane Colleo – Mel Jones – Cayte Lawson – Nicky Davies – Nicci Tomlin – Charlotte Wassell – Kirsty Matthews – me!

Armenian cultural tour, last call !

Hello,
This is the last call for the Armenian cultural organized by Simona Jovic (www.simonajovic.com), Helene Eriksen (www.helene-eriksen.de) and the Armenian Youth Center from Erevan. If you want to book a place, this is the moment, cause we will be closing the registrations very soon !

CULTURAL TOUR TO ARMENIA
Organized by Simona Jovic & Helene Eriksen
Discover the armenian, persian and roma culture in Yerevan from April 21 to 28, 2009

Together with the Armenian Youth Center from Yerevan, Simona Jovic and Helene Eriksen invite you to Armenia to discover the persian, armenian and romani culture. There will be dance workshops with Helene Eriksen (persian dance), armenian artists (armenian dances) and Simona Jovic (roma dances). Includes cultural visits, discovering of the city of Yerevan and other surprises! More details bellow.

Our itinery :

April 21st, 2009 - Arrival and discovering of the city of Yerevan

Arrival. All the participants will be welcomed at the airport and transferred to the hotel. For our stay in Yerevan, we have chosen the 3 star Olympia Hotel. This garden-like hotel sits away from busy traffic and quietly overlooks beautiful Mt.Ararat. It is conveniently located not far from the city center. In the evening, when everyone arrives, we will have a walk together and start exploring the city of Yerevan.

April 22nd, 2009 - Introduction to persian dance by Helene Eriksen

Helene Eriksen will be teaching wonderful Persian dance as the opening workshop of our beautiful 20-hour workshop-series that we will be offering you during your stay in Armenia. This workshop will be for 2 1/2 hours in the morning. In the afternoon a local Armenian dancer and her musicians will join us for 3 hours to introduce us to the music, rhythms and dances of Armenia. Our goal for this trip is to explore and discover the everyday life of Armenians and not just have a superficial touristic experience. And so we have chosen a dance studio in the center of town which we will travel to by metro! In the evening you will be free to explore Yerevan on your own.

April 23rd, 2009 - Armenian dance workshop

In the morning, Helene will continue teaching Persian dance. In the afternoon, our Armenian artist will join us again for 2 hours. The Armenian dance heritage is one of the oldest, richest and most Itinerary varied in the Near East. In this workshop will be taught the women dances of Armenia, which are very graceful and lyrical and express the natural pride of Armenian women. In the evening we will take you to one of the many places in Yerevan with traditional live music.

April 24th, 2009 - Yerevan city tour and Tsitsernakaberd

Our partners from the Armenian Youth Center will take us for the whole day on a city tour of Yerevan. We will discover the richness of one of the oldest cities in the world (its origins are in the 8th century B.C.) with a local guide. We will visit Republic Square, the Opera House, Matenadaran, the Cascade, Mother Armenia & Victory Park, Surp Grigor Lusavorich Cathedral and more! After lunch in a traditional restaurant (included in the price), we will go to Tsitsernakaberd. On the April 24th, people from all around Armenia come to Tsitsernakaberd, a memorial dedicated to the victims of the Armenian genocide of 1915 during the last years of the Ottoman Empire. We are lucky to be there on that day and share this important moment with Armenian people from around the world!

April 25th, 2009 - Introduction to roma dance from Southern Balkans by Simona Jovic

This morning, Simona Jovic will introduce her Rroma dance workshop (2 1/2 hours). She will be teaching Cocek, a Rroman dance from south of Serbia, Macedonia, Bulgaria and Albania. In the afternoon, the Armenian music and dance workshop will continue. (3hours)

April 26th, 2009 - Village tour and the lunch with the locals

Our trip to Armenian isn’t only about dancing. By taking you to Armenia, we want you to discover the real life of the Armenian people: how they live, what is their religion, how they cook, what are their traditions, etc. This day will be perfect for that. Our partners from the Armenian Youth Center will take us to the heart of the country, to Ashtarak and the surrounding villages. We will visit some well known monasteries and most importantly; we will meet local people and have lunch with them!

April 27th, 2009 - The last day of the armenian and rroms dance workshops

One more day with a lot of dance...unfortunately the last one. In the morning, we will work on Rroma dance and in the afternoon on Armenian dance. In the evening we will have a farewell party! We will go all together to a nice venue with music and share a moment (and maybe some dancing!) with our Armenian artists and organizers.

April 28th, 2009 - Departure

In the morning, I hope we will find a moment to talk all together about our Armenian experiences, take group photos and exchange contact information. After that, all the participants will be transferred to the airport.

Prices :

COST: 995 Euros with dance workshops, / 795 Euros without dance workshops
INCLUDED: Transfers airport/hotel/airport • Accommodation in the 3 star Bass Hotel near the city center (double occupancy) • Breakfasts everyday and lunch on April 24th and April 26th • Excursion to Ashatarak and other villages in the heart of Armenia by minibus, including lunch with the local people • Yerevan city tour with a local guide in a minibus.

REGISTRATION: simonajovic@gmail.com

i got back from majma this w'end, my legs & feet are hurting!! it is the first time i've been, and really enjoyed the workshops I took - bollywood, flamenco & isis wings, and the evening shows were good, and loved shopping in the souk!

the only other belly dance festival i'd been to before this was Raqs B but it's great to learn from new teachers & generally meet up with like minded dancers, i think the belly dance community is so friendly!

what did everyone else enjoy?

Arts Council Survey-Who Knew? X POSTED

I came accross this, by chance, and wondered if any of you knew about it or, better still, had taken part? I'd appreciate your responses even if it's "Didn't know". I'm trying to think of a plan to get us more recognition by mainstream dance. Can't believe I missed this deadline. Grr!

Dancemapping
Arts Council England has launched its biggest ever consultation on dance and is inviting everyone involved in the art form to have their say. The major assessment will be the largest undertaking of its kind, and will create a map of dance in England. The map will influence Arts Council’s future funding of dance and help create a stronger and more sustainable art form. There are three surveys; one for venues, one for local authorities and one for anyone working in dance and they are all available online at www.artscouncil.org.uk/dancemapping. Janet Archer, director of dance strategy, Arts Council England said, “Dance in this country is thriving; we're seeing new projects, audiences and investment emerging everywhere. That’ s great, but we need to pin down facts so we can monitor growth, and keep track of how dance performs against other art forms. If you’re involved in dance in England in any way we want to hear your comments and opinions. This is your chance to help gather the evidence needed to encourage greater investment in dance and create a vibrant future for dance.” The mapping project is due to be completed by March 2009.

**FCBD ATS Genral Skills and Teacher Training UK 2009**

To all ATS lovers,

Once again, plans are afoot to run FatChance ATS General Skills in Teacher training with Caroena Nericcio here in the UK in October/November 2009.

Sadly, the lovely venue we used last year is not available.

However, I have been investigating some lovely alternative venues, and have homed in on a location in South East of England. This venue provides a lovely dance studio, single or twin bedrooms (most ensuite), and it is fully catered, i.e. 3 meals per day, all set within beautiful countryside.

For this reason and due to the current US$/£ Sterling exchange rates, the cost for each course this year will be higher than those of last year: For GS the cost will be circa £950; for TT, circa £850; for both circa £1800 - however this is just a guide figure and it may well be slightly less.

It you think you may be interested in either or both of these courses, please send me an email to register your interest and to get your name on the mailing list for priority updates, to : info@tribeofkismet.co.uk

With best wishes
Bonnie from Tsingani workshop - Inverness- 11th April

In Sync: Tsingani Style

Want to gel with your dance mates? Then this is the workshop for you! Bring your troupe – this is not for soloist. This workshop focuses on connecting with your dance partners to create a smooth, synchronized performance. We will work in pairs, switching up as we go along, to fine tune your awareness of your dance partner. There is no “YOU” in this workshop! We will be using Basic foundational moves (which might be new to you), plus a few of Tsingani moves, that will be re-taught so you can focus on your partner instead of the moves.
Be prepared …..Bonnie is a detail freak!
Skill Level: Open
