DaVid of Scandinavia in Nashville, TN Jan. 19-20, 2008

Put DaVid on your holiday wish list! Al Janoub, the Tennessee Chapter of MECDA, proudly presents DaVid of Scandinavia in his first workshop and show in the Southeastern United States. DaVid is an internationally acclaimed performer and instructor specializing in Rak Sharki, Bhangra, and Bollywood and one of the co-founders of the Ethnic Dance Academy in San Diego.

Please join us January 19-20 in Nashville, Tennessee in welcoming DaVid to the Southeast as he teaches workshops in Raks Sharki Combos, Bollywood for Bellydance, and Bhangra. Workshops will be held at the Global Education Center at 4822 Charlotte Pike in Nashville starting Saturday, January 19 with Raks Sharki Combos at 11:30am and Bollywood for Bellydance at 2:30pm. Sunday's Bhangra workshop will begin at 11am, January 20. Workshops are $35 for one, $65 for two, or $90 for the weekend if you register by December 15, 2007 (just in time for holiday gift shopping). DaVid will also be available Sunday for private lessons by appointment at the Global Education Center (advance registration required--limited availability). There will be a show Saturday night at the West Nashville United Methodist Church at 4710 Charlotte Ave, Nashville at 7:30pm. Admission is $10.

The Global Education Center is conveniently located in Nashville, Tennessee. Nashville is an easy driving distance from several states, and there is an abundance of affordable accommodations available for your stay. Special rates are available at Baymont Inn and Suites at 5612 Lenox Ave, Nashville. Just mention you are with MECDA.

Arriving early? We'll be opening the weekend with a hafla on Friday, January 18th at Fattoush Café at 260 West Main Street, Hendersonville, TN (City Square Shopping Center) at 7pm. We hope you'll join us there!

Tamalyn will be teaching her distinct Tamalyn Dallal Technique on Monday, May 14th at 7:00pm

Don't miss this opportunity to learn from this Master Classical Egyptian Instructor, Incredible Performer and Amazing Artist!

Please bring veils and your zills/zagats (finger cymbals)

The workshop will be two very intense hours of work! You will learn the ethnic movements along with the classical! Come ready to sweat and take home her many years of knowledge!

Make sure to bring a water bottle and towel, all in a tote bag to keep everything neat and out of the way of the dancing!

Stage Dynamics Workshop

The Tennessee MECDA Chapter, Al Janoub, proudly presents its premier workshop & hafla event.
STAGE DYNAMICS: A theatrical approach to Bellydance performance & afternoon hafla.
You will benefit from Diana’s 19+ years of experience and training in the Theatre, Storytelling, and Dance - including a degree in Theatre and Xenia’s 12+ years of Middle Eastern dance experience. They will introduce you to elements of stage performance which will help you better familiarize yourself with the stage environment & improve your stage presence so that your audience sees your best performance when you’re on a big stage. Appropriate for all levels. This is a 2 hour informative workshop, so bring a notebook!

Workshop followed by hafla. Open floor performance, sign up for your 5 minute dance slot at the door!

Workshop $20 at 1pm
Attend the workshop & get into the hafla for FREE!
Hafla $5 from 3:30 – 6:30 pm

What do you call your style of dance?

I am "modern bellydance" trained (not classical egyptian at all) with a background in aztec and folk dancing, so I am earthy. I also like a lot of sparkle, the more glitter the better.
My style is earthy modern fusion cabaret, I guess

How do you celebrate your Goddessness?

What are the type of things do you do? Are there certain dances that you do that bring out the Goddess in you?

I know for me when I try to do my candle dancing, I feel free. I just let it go & don't really seem to care exactly how it looks.
