I'm going to feel REALLY dumb if no one else owns up, surely I'm not the only one...
Does anyone else think that a lot of the time dog toys are cuter and more interesting than some of the stuff that is actually intended for our little ones? I mean, no, not give the kids the dirty ones the dogs have had, but I found a really cool squeaky iguana at the store today for three bucks and when you squeeze it (and my nearly 5 month old can get it to work) it's tonge and tail uncurl. I've got squeaky rubber ducks for my almost 3 y/o and he has a hard time sqeaking them, the doggie toys work, but I've got this little voice in the back of my head going, "OMG, you're giving THAT to your kids?!"
Someone else own up to weird playthings you've given your kids...Please?

Re: Stupid Question
Thu, August 23, 2007 - 10:49 PMHey, I don't want to be a party pooper, but just wanted to let folks know that plastic animal toys are made with much higher levels of PCBs (nasty cancer-causing chemicals) than are allowed in kids' toys and cups etc.. So, if your child is an age where things often go in his/her mouth, you might want to keep away from the dog and cat toys. The fact that PCBs are allowed in baby bottles and rubber duckies etc. at all has been getting a lot of press recently, if you want to read more about it on line.
That said, I think wooden spoons and metal pots and bowls are some of the best baby toys ever.

Re: Stupid Question
Fri, November 16, 2007 - 8:10 PMI know this was posted awhile ago (I'm new by the way - Hi!) but my daughter loves the little weiner dog from PetsMart - you know the one from the commercial? We call it Bobo. She has two. A green one and a pink one. Also, she has a stuffed baby dog that barks when you press it's belly. That one was fun to listen to.:)
We're at the point now that we have to teach my daughter the difference between her toys and the dogs. She likes to "steal" the toys away from the dogs when they play with it. Interesting concept to teach about sharing. (We have two dogs by the way.) But you're defintely not alone. I've had the same "OMG - I'm giving her this?"

Re: Stupid Question
Sun, June 8, 2008 - 6:55 PMI have most defnitely thought the same thing. I've also thought that a lot of the stuff in pet stores looks a lot like what you'd find in an S&M gear place too. Pet stores are weird and wonderful places.
I don't know about the plastics in those toys, tho. And it would be a concern of mine. But generally, I find the toys my daughter likes tend to be the things we use every day. Pots, pans (as someone else mentioned), clothing, shoes, sticks, rocks, you name it.
