Hey, just joined this tribe. I've been looking for other belly dancing mothers trying to balance everything. I'm successful at it sometimes and when I am it feels really right. Then there are times when I'm last on the totem pole to get what I need and that usually coincides with an important performance. It's then that I wonder why I'm doing this to myself.
I've been a professional peformer/instructor for 13 years. I have a son who is 6 and a baby girl who is turning 1 tomorrow. I adore my two kids and my husband too. We have a great time together. But then I'm also in love with teaching this beautiful dance and performing it when and where I can. I'm temporarily located in Vancouver, British Columbia and am heading back home to Texas in December.
Not sure if anyone has the magic answer to balancing it all or it's just a luck of the stars.

Re: Bottom of the list...
Mon, October 31, 2005 - 3:25 PMYou are so right about balancing your performance dance time out with important family time , it isnt easy deciding what to takecare of first. Personaly i try to keep every secound weekend dance free and for the family and i do mean try there are always buzy times of the yr that are filled with rehearsals and workshops hhhmmm well 2 times of the yr really *giggle* comman sense comes into it because if you feel bad all the time your dancing then your meant to be with your family , most familys are forgiving as long as your there for the really important stuff. i had to learn to say no to somethings and say sorry i spending time with my family that weekend , as being a teacher i tend to get invited to lots of student partys that i mostly just cant attend , its hard saying no but i always explain family time is important to me and most studets understand an respect that.
*Blessings*

Re: Bottom of the list...
Sat, November 5, 2005 - 5:37 PMHey Helen, I like your guideline of every other weekend dance free. It does seem that there are times when there is just so much going on that it is hard to do that. I seem to have such full days in general with work and two kids that when it comes time to put together a special event for students or an important seminar or performance I feel like I'm squeezing in a few moments for myself. I'm not much of a deligator so I need to assert myself in that area and ask for more help from my husband when those times arise. It is such a sensitive balance though.
