BELLY is finished editing except for some song rights still in negotiation. As of today there is only a handful of copies in existence and those have been submitted to film festivals.
I am hoping that if it screens at some festivals that the dancers from that area will come and help me fill the theater. Seeing a film at a film festival is different then seeing a movie. The filmmaker is usually there, and it is more like a performance in a way. So it would be a really fun belly-dance event to fill a theater with sister (and brother) dancers, maybe have an after party with dancing, and show the filmmaking community how popular and important the dance is.
There is more information and a the new trailer for BELLY on our recently updated website www.ftbproductions.com, or e-mail me if you want to get put on an e-mailing list for updates about the film. starbelly@ftbproductions.com
Also StarBelly Creations now has an online catalogue on the Full Tilt Boogie website(link above) Check it out and see all the cool new items. All proceeds from the sale of StarBelly items go directly to fund the promotion of BELLY.
I am really excited!

Re: BELLY updates 5-9-08
Mon, May 12, 2008 - 12:11 PMHi Cecilia! Thanks for the update!
By the way, you might want to consider renaming your film to something other than "Belly". There is already a documentary on the market called "Belly", which is about a young woman with bulimia who finds belly dancing helpful in her recovery process. Given that their film too is about someone who belly dances, you might find yourself facing legal hassles if you move forward with that name.
Here's a link to info about that other film: www.filmakers.com/indivs/Belly.htm -

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I used you website as a resource while I was in Pre-production on my film, so thank you so much for having such a wonderful resource! I did see about the documentary that you are referring to, but I thought the title was “Belly: Overcoming Bulimia”. Either way, after researching it, I don’t think there will be in conflicts with both of these films having the same title. It is impossible to copyright a title. The larger studios, do register their titles and there is lawsuits all the time about titles and copyright infringement, and laws of unfair competition. But these usually only have to do with titles that are household names, like Star Wars. “Laws of unfair competition” are the only thing for me to be concerned about and they more have to do with similar movies coming out at the same time that may be confused for one another other. There are a few similarities with our films, like belly dancing, but there are more differences. Theirs is a short film, mine is a feature, theirs is mostly about bulimia, mine is all about the personal experience of being a belly dancer, and most importantly theirs was released 14 years ago in 1995, and mine will be released in 2008 or 2009. Also both of our films have different target markets, and paths of distribution.
I do think it is important to consider ALL these things as a performer and film-maker, so I do appreciate your “heads up”.
