I told her from what I know around a year.... but I was wondering if anyone has any experience with pregnancy and post bellydance...... I think she is getting a little down because her body is different..... Thanx for any and all advice!

Nomadiqa Ethnic Fusion and Arabesque Beats - Repost

Hi Folks,
We recently released a debut album. It's a mix of electronic and arabian styles. We're hoping it might appeal to the tribal and belly dance community, and also people that are into this sort of vibe and music. Please feel free to have a listen on myspace where we have four full tracks available to listen online.

http://www.myspace.com/nomadiqa

It would also be great to promote it through the network of tribal and/or belly dance teachers who might be interested to sell it at a class or bazaar. We can offer it at wholesale prices with plenty of capacity for the seller to make a decent profit on top of the wholesale price.

Please contact info@nomadiqa.com for further details. Sorry for the self promotion.

Hope to hear from you.

Many thanks,

I went, I saw, I danced, I spent lots of money. And it was all well spent. There was beautiful jewelry and bellydance items to be had at really great prices.

Of course my whole purpose for being there was to see Kara Nomadica perform. And I was not disappointed. Not only did they play as I expected they would, but they had a bevy of beautiful bellydancers performing, too. This includes the woman who organized the acts for the stage on which they performed. Her name is Maria and her smile and her professional style were a sight to behold. This, and she is a sweetheart, too. Also, there was Phoenix with a wonderful sword dance, Meghan (did I spell that right?) with a beautiful veil performance, and Julia of Tribaltique, inspiring as always. There was also some traditional dancing.

I hope I didn't miss anything. The plan was to make this entry the next day, since Maria said Sunday was going to be the best day. It would be hard to top Kara Nomadica's performance, I say. My old memory fails me at times, so if I missed something, feel free to lash me. And my apologies for not getting to it right away. The computer is not my life, but I do try to keep up.
Getting started again

I started this tribe, A Fire in the Belly, because I loved the tribe community and saw it could allow for things to happen in the bellydance community I love, and we could make a difference together.

In 2006, I created a fundraising performance for the Washington Street Community Center, with the huge help, support and performances of The Cairo Moon Dancers and other local bellydancers. It was called A Fire in the Belly: A Community Movement with Passion. I was planning on making it the first annual event to bring the beauty and empowerment of bellydance to a new community.

But I lost confidence and momentum. And I hid out, not going to local bellydance classes or haflas, to spite myself. Thankfully, I have recently been re-inspired. I have started a couple of new tribes and taken on meeting new people. New members have sparked a new fire.

I realized there is a lot of opportunity out there to spread the joys of bellydance, have fun, and contribute to a good cause. My friend Joanna, because of her pics from Bolder Boulder opened me up to the possibility of groups of bellydancers at runs and walks. Who is up for either whooping it up for the walkers and runners, OR going for the walk in bellydance costumes? That seems like it could be a lot of fun.

We could also organize volunteering time together at any of the local non-profits. I have been thinking for a while about finding out what's out there and volunteering with my son, but because of a message from my friend, Amanya, I have been thinking it would be more fun and make a bigger difference if groups of us come together in our support. Over the next few months I am going to look into what is available in Denver area and I will share it here.

I intend to look into the events and groups in the Denver communities and to keep you posted, and I invite you, in other communities, to join in the game.

Some of the groups that offer volunteer opportunities that I am interested in are:

girlsindenver.org
familiesfirstcolorado.org
ccadv.org
familyresourcecenters.info
metrodenverpartners.org
bgcmd.org
womensbeanproject.com
smart-girl.org
teensinc.org
project-yes.org

I know there are other organizations out there and I look forward to your input.

LoveAndPeace,
t

New Tribes!

Hello All!

This morning I awoke to the idea of new tribes. And I was inspired enough to act, despite my fears.

For several weeks, I have wanted to start a tribe called either "Bellydance Will Save the World" or "Bellydance to Save the World". I saw the love, joy and connection that bellydance brings out in the community, and saw that those are what are needed to heal the schisms and strifes that destroy. So Bellydance Will Save the World was born today. Bless its birth, and may BWSW make a difference with your contributions.

The other inspirations were to create a tribe called Fit Pregnancy and a tribe called Fit Mama. I want to touch the lives of women in and around pregnancy, and make a difference in the way families relate. To do that, we need community, so I am reaching out. As I signed on to tribe and began to create my first new tribe, I realized that Fit Mama is sufficient to cover both topics. Though the original intent was to provide a forum for physical fitness questions and advice for Mamas, as I wrote, I realized it needed to encompass not only body, but mind and spirit as well.

Please check them out, pass the word, spread the love.

LoveAndPeace,
T

Hello All,

I am looking for a fellow Bellydancer in Denver, Colorado, who is open to getting in shape with me. I love lifting weights, but would like to get out and do some different things, too. Variety is good, but just getting back into it is great. We live pretty centrally, Near Wash Park. And if it helps, we are members at 24hr Fitness.

Belly

I did not realize how strongly my feelings are tied to my weight. The last few weeks (maybe longer) since I have posted on my profile about how I have gained some pounds and don't fit as well in my clothes, I have been totally hiding--in pretty much all areas of my life.

The last time I signed on tribe was ages ago. I haven't contacted any of my friends or gone to basically anything. All of a sudden, I just didn't want to be seen.

Don't get me wrong, I always secretly feel like I am on the outside looking in, anyway, but when I felt like I was not meeting my own standards, suddenly I did not allow myself to try anymore.

So what happened? Why am I writing today? Honestly, I am not entirely sure. I think I miss it all. I miss the contact and I miss the me who was brave enough to get out there despite all my inequities.

I don't expect perfection from anyone else (terrible to say, I suppose), except perhaps my husband and son (really awful, too). So I am a bit of a hypocrite, or a lot of one.

When I go to a hafla or a class, I see all of the beautiful women of every sort and size. And what makes them so beautiful to me is their confidence--the fact that they are comfortable sharing themselves on the dance floor. I love to see them dance because I see it as an expression of who they are. As they express themselves, I truly see how beautiful they are. For me, almost unapproachable, sometimes.

And yet, I have not allowed myself that right. I have been hiding, actually, for a very long time. It is time for a change. Perhaps my writing this today is the beginning. I had been hoping my last entry on my profile would be the beginning. And maybe it was, even though it seemed like the end for so long.

Sometimes I look at my belly and see a sensuous thing. Other times, it is quite the opposite. It can look exactly the same, but my frame of mind fools my eye. So, how to frame it beautifully each day? After all, my body is not who I am.

My body has never been the way I wanted it to be. Now I am at my heaviest and fattest, and I am not really that unusual in that way. But even when I was fit, I was not satisfied. Is it the American Way? Human Nature? Just ME?

When I first came to bellydance, I began to look at myself in a new way. My confidence rose. I saw myself in a better light. Of course, I still compared myself to all of the beautiful, untouchable women in the class with me. Still considering myself somehow outside of them. But better in myself. Who I am came more fully to the surface.

And lately I have been spending less and less time in my bellydance world that I love so much. It has been eating at me (but leaving the flesh). This is not where I want to be.

This has meandered a bit. Or maybe a lot. But I wanted to get down my thoughts. And I would love to hear your comments.

It is definitely time for me to rub the belly and feel the love. Wish me luck. Wish me love.

LoveAndPeace

Hi All,

First let me apologize for not staying active on tribe. I sometimes let my life keep me from virtuality. But as of November, I commit to posting something at least once a week. ;)

Also, I will be searching tribe for upcoming bellydance events in the Denver area, and in Colorado. I am inviting you to send me updates on anything I might have missed. Yes, please do! Or post directly on A Fire in the Belly. That's right! Let me help you spread the word on the next event that excites you!

I would love for A Fire in the Belly to be one-stop-shopping for all of your bellydance event info.

So look for new info in the next week. And as always feel free to post any contributions.

I hope you all were able to see the shows recently. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to make it to all of them. Most notably, I missed Rachel Brice.

Oasis Dreams was a spectacular and diverse show. Dahlia put on the show and a wonderful performance of her own. Also Suzanna DelVecchio and Tribaltique were amazing. All of the performers and everyone who put it on should be commended.

Also, Suzanna DelVechio's recital was last weekend. I had gone to see a Miriam, whom I know from Molly's Tribaltique classroom at Dance Fusion Studio. Everyone was great!

Please update me and all visitors on any upcoming events. For all of us who love bellydance like I have come to, we appreciate it!
