Good netflix movie

Satin Rouge is a good film. The belly dance technique is questionable but that's not the point of the film. The film is newish and comes from Tunisia.

Netflix and Egyptian movies

Over the past couple of years, a LOT of classic Egyptian movies have come out on DVD with English subtitles. Many also have French subtitles. I've only watched a handful (so far), but I've purchased a bunch on DVD and I'm slowly making my way through the stack. For those of you interested in seeing some Egyptian movies with dancing, here's some info:

Netflix already has:

Afrita Hanem (the Genie Lady). Stars Samia Gamal & Farid al-Atrache. I highly recommend this one! (This is one of the few I've had time to watch.)

Fatma. Stars Oum Kalthoum. I haven't watched it yet, but I know it has a dance scene at the wedding because that dance scene appears on the compilation DVD The Legends of Belly Dance.

Mother of the Bride. Stars Tahia Carioca. Problem is, I don't know whether Carioca actually dances in this one and for that reason I would rank this as a lower priority than the others. (This is one I have NOT watched yet.) It was made in 1963, and I do know that starting about the 1960's, Carioca started putting on weight and showing her age, so she started taking non-dance roles such as playing the part of the mother. In this movie, she plays the role of mother of the bride. I would be surprised if she dances in this one, but you never can tell.

Glass and a Cigarette. Stars Samia Gamal & Farid Al-Atrache. I haven't seen this one yet, but someone who has seen it tells me that Gamal plays the role of a dancer, and there are several dance scenes. So probably a good one to put on your queue.

Here are ones you might want to ask Netflix to try to get. I know that one source for some of these is www.fineartfilm.com , another is www.arabfilm.com , and a third is www.aramovies.com .

Shore of Love. Stars Tahia Carioca, made in 1950. Has 2 really good dance scenes where the filming really lets you relax and enjoying the dancing, a third one in which it's hard to see the dancing from the way it was filmed. Also some fabulous singing by Laila Murad.

I Love You. Stars Samia Gamal. I haven't seen this one (yet), but I know it has some dance scenes because they appear on the compilation Samia Gamal - The Legend.

Don't Tell Anyone. Stars Samia Gamal. I haven't seen this one (yet), but I know it has some dance scenes...

The Last Lie (also known as The Final Lie). Stars Samia Gamal. I haven't seen this one (yet), but I know it has some dance scenes...

That's probably enough titles for now. If I overwhelm you with too many all at once, it'll dilute your requests!

Warning: defective dvd at Netflix

I rented the "Shake It Up" dvd and the soundtrack was totally out of sync with the video -- thus making Ansuya look like she couldn't keep a beat!! I had to laugh... it made all the dancers look bad.

Has anyone else had this problem with copies of this dvd that you've either rented or bought?

ANYWAY I've let Netflix know about it.

New bellydance section

Hi y'all. I just noticed that NF has a new bellydance section and there are apparently new videos there. At least ones I haven't seen before. Its located in Special Interest>>Dance>>Bellydance.

Format of requests to Netflix?

Hi all, I think this is a great tool to get those great ATS videos into Netflix! I'm gonna invite everyone I know!
But is there a format we should follow when requesting videos? For example:

Title
Creator
Cost
Ordering info

that way we can give them as much info as possible so they don't have to search for it. Also when we post the first msg in the thread all the fellow tribe members can just copy and paste it into the netflix request box.

Hey Y'all! This isn't a request so please don't be upset that this is slightly off topic. But I thought I would put together a list of bellydance DVDs that I have found thus far on netflix. It would be cool if they had a seperate section, but since they are spread out in different categories, it's nice to see what is available. It's a pretty good list in my opinion, but I want more performance DVDs rather than exercise tapes. I also haven't included DVDs that have a really bad star ratings or ones that I already own. I wish I could get the links to show up!
