Re: Have you read "The Introvert Advantage?"
Fri, June 29, 2007 - 9:56 AMSurprised How?
When I read it and started to focus on my life and putting aside time for my need for alone and down time, I realized that I wasn't a depressed person, nor did I suffer from social anxiety, or from a poor ability to cope with stress. I was simply getting caught up with other peoples definitions of happiness, socialness, and forcing myself to be go-go-go all the time... Then I would suffer really bad burn out and end up with all these physical illnesses that are mentioned in the book as well.
Now I am doing great. The only problem I haven't been able to solve is my insomnia, so it looks like I will just have to stay with my sleeping pills, but other than that I am doing wonderfully now.
It was so nice to learn introvertedness is not a problem or illness or failing to be addressed, but rather a natural temperment (physiological) that doesn't quite jive with our current culture's go-go-go attitudes.... -

Re: Have you read "The Introvert Advantage?"
Fri, June 29, 2007 - 6:49 PMI had an interesting conversation with a person from Korea. There, introversion is not considered a problem; on the contrary - it's an attribute. So different cultures value different elements and in N.Am. extroversion is more valued than introversion. Interestingly, some ocd-like behavior was not as stigmatized there either, in her opinion. -

Re: Have you read "The Introvert Advantage?"
Tue, August 7, 2007 - 1:58 PMI have read the library few books I could find on the subject of introversion but I haven't come across this one. I'm curious. What did the author "The Introvert Advantage" propose to be its advantages? Personally, I think it has a lot of advantages if one has a positive outlook and develops their assets. Some people have a hard time with introversion but that's normal. They just can't relate, that's all. Poor, poor them.
