Generalist or Specialist?

So many options, so little time... the D/s world offers so many choices, so much diversity

If you could choose to know everything about one topic, what area would you choose to be an expert?

What a great question! I would say if I could be an expert in any one area, I would want it to be the mental aspects of play, since I believe the mind is the best toy in anyone's bag. I do try to introduce as much of the mental as the physical when I scene. Just makes it funner for me.

I would choose to be an expert at using my voice and manipulating energy... so that I could mind-fuck someone to orgasm without even needing to touch them.

I was a lucky "volunteer" at Midori's "Art of Feminine Dominance" class and was brought to a shattering climax without her ever needing to do more then look into my eyes and command me.

    All of the above.

I think I prefer the generalist route - I want to know a lot about a lot of different things. Too often the specialist becones a 'one trick pony'. They know everything about their specialty, but unfortunately, that's to the exclusion of everything else. After the first few conversations, they're not much fun to talk to (unless you also have a strong interest in their specialty).

I think that's one of the reasons I like switching - it opens up more avenues and allows me to experience many different aspects of BDSM. Take just for example, hot wax. It's not something I fantasized about, but after I became avtive in the scene, I saw several hot wax scenes. Then I was invited to participate in one scene as an assistant to the Top. And it was fun watching the bottom respond to the drip, drip, drip of the hot wax - but I wondered what it would feel like to be on the receiving end. Eventually, I got to experience the receiving end - and surprise, there was a totally different sensation when the wax was dripped on the shoulders compared to having the wax dripped on the lower spine just above the tailbone (apparently there's lots of nerve endings right there).
