Hello fellow Dancers,
I am planning a trip in Feb. to study with my teacher in Chennai. for 2 weeks, then up to Rajasthan for a week to see friends.
I am curious to hear from any seasoned travelers what to prepare for, as well as any thing I might want to consider while in Chennai? Nicole*

Re: Finally going to India to study...any tips??
Thu, August 30, 2007 - 5:43 AMHave you factored in a few days of rest while you are there to recover from the jetlag? When I've come or gone from/to that part of the world, it's taken me at times at least a week to recover.

Re: Finally going to India to study...any tips??
Thu, October 11, 2007 - 3:05 AMHi Nicole!
I have been in Chennai India studying bharatanatyam for a year and a half now ( another year and a half to go until my arangetram). I don't know what your level is so its hard to offer too many tips. Two weeks is a very short time, since even in February the weather in Chennai will be hot enough to fatigue you quickly. If you know all the adavus and are adept with them, two weeks might be enough to learn a short item like a thillana. If you know items already, it might be better to focus on some ASPECT of the dance like abineya. Feel free to contact me. My Japanese roomate ( who is at KalakShetra) enjoy helping out other foriegn dancers with the culture shock aspects. My e-mail is thessalychance@yahoo.com ( in case triibe is slow) . anyway I will be glad to help. Who is your teacher?
