Visiting New York

Hi, I am visiting New York at the end of May. I have never been before. As an urbanite of the world's second best city (san francisco), I would love to hear some recommendations from some locals. My wife and I love food, cocktails and nightlife. We will probably be there over memorial day weekend.

What are your favorite bars, restaurants and clubs at the moment?

The W Hotels don't actually look too expensive for NYC. Any other suggestions? Want to keep it under $400/night.

Any sort of off-the-beaten-path recommendations?

thanks!

There are too many amazing restaurants for me to begin to mention. Give me a type or a neighborhood and I might be able to steer you, but it's too vast a city to narrow down.

I'm not enough of a party hipster to recommend hot spots.

But I will start with... try to get to COSM. www.cosm.org/ (Call first, as each moment there may be their last; their lease is up and the plug may be pulled at any time.)

CoSM is around for the next few months, quite possibly till end of the year. ;-) A more public annoucement will probably be made in a month or two.

There's no party schedule for that weekend, but keep an eye on this and the FreekFactory tribe for the best stuff.

I live in NYC but have a friend from England who travels here frequently. We're both fans of the Soho Grand down in lower Soho and Tribeca.

        I'd stay there.

Check out LOVE, it's my favorite club in the city. The first Friday of every month Sub Swara is there, but there are a bunch of different standing nights at LOVE. www.musicislove.net
    CoSM is also a must!

Yes, LOVE is awesome (lots of different music types). Sh*t, I can't believe I missed Kid Capri & Q-Tip tonite @ LOVE!!! :-O

Also try Sullivan Room for "electro", Cielo for "house" music, APT for "everything"
