Are you still looking for a camp to call Home during your 2008 Burn?

If so, please consider camping with Sacred Spaces Camp. This camp will be home to the builders, artists, musicians and shamans who are creating the Pantheogenesis Temple. We welcome anybody who wants to participate in the temple, or anyone else who is interested in a relaxed and beautiful camping experience with good amenities and a spiritual vibe. It's a great chance to meet and network with spiritually-centered artists, healers and musicians from "pods" located all over the US -- Chicago, LA, NYC, SF, Reno, Boston, and beyond. Our farthest pod comes from Quebec!

The camp will be a fossil-fuel free zone, with green power hookups for RVs or a swamp cooler for your tent, a communal kitchen (grills, basic cooking infrastructure, shaded cooking area, washing area, tables, etc provided - bring your own food), several showers with grey water set up (bring your shower bag), shaded chillout spaces for those hot playa days, outdoor mate cafe & performance space, red moon women's hut, psychomantium yurt, and a soft comfy tea-and-discussion lounge.

We will most likely be hosting some impromptu music, yoga, and other events in the camp itself, but our primary focus will be the art, performance, workshops, and ritual in the Pantheogenesis Temple, which we are building in the nearby Entheon Village.

Registration is currently $125pp, which includes power hookups but no grey/black water removal for RVs. All money from camp registration goes towards funding the art in the temple.

Pantheogenesis is a 12,000 square foot temple consisting of seven interconnected spaces, each of which has its own artistic and spiritual theme, and each of which will contain music, lectures, ritual and/or workshops. It contains a multitude of amazing art pieces, over 1000 crystals, and much amazing beauty. The temple is designed to bring the dreams of the world into manifestation. Visit www.pantheogenesis.com for more details.

We are conveniently located in the heart of all the action near Entheon Village and center camp, but set back from the main street for privacy and serenity.

We ask that each person contribute one 3-hour shift towards keeping the place clean throughout the week.

If you are interested in registering with us, please contact Ayla at yogateacher7@gmail.com

Love,
Costuming in the City

So, since there's so many bellydancers and the ilk here on Tribe, I thought it might be a good place to ask if there are any shops here in NYC where people like to go for the whole Renaissance/Medieval costuming and armoring type of stuff.

Or, if there were even thrift shops that any of you favor for finding costuming elements for cheap, I'm kind of out of my depth.

I've always had to buy off the internet, but if there were places where I could go and look and see in person, that cuts down on the chances of getting shoddy workmanship at really high rates (had that happen a few times.)

Also, possibly, anyone know any home seamstresses who'd be willing to be hired, if worse comes to worse?

Grazi!

Mayday in Tompkins Square Park--this sunday!!

--Save the Date--Participate--

I would love it if Disorientals would come out and set up a Disorient Area at Mayday this year. Maybe a Disorient Lounge in a corner of the park that could be an out post for the crew...

Anyway...here is the announcement below and a link to video of my set from last year. (Yes we are back in TSP this Year!!)

THE MAYDAY FESTIVAL
Sunday April 27st, 2008—2-6 PM
Tompkins Square Park—East Village—NYC

Plus info tables, speakers, art and big bad beautiful YOU basking in the sun and music!!

ARTIST CALL-- We are inviting Theme Camps, Circus performers, artists, performance artists, vendors, political organizations, body-painters, acrobats, clowns, break-dancers, etc. to come, bring props, bring costumes, bring energy and PARTICIPATE!

A little background…

The Mayday Festival (AKA the 22th Annual Squatters Mayday Celebration) is held yearly in Tompkins Square Park as commemoration of Anarchist founded, international workers holiday, Mayday. The holiday is broadly celebrated in Europe as a commemoration of workers rights, the 8 hour workday, and the anarchist martyrs who died in Chicago the bring about those rights. Mayday also has significance as the ancient pagan celebration of fertility and the coming of spring.

For us here in New York, The Mayday Festival is a celebration of the vibrancy of our neighborhood, our city, and a celebration of our counter-cultural communities. It is also a salute to the victorious squatters of the Lower East Side who have transformed the radical dream, “Housing is a Human Right”, into 11 buildings of legal, tenant-controlled, affordable housing.

The Mayday Festival is a time for our communities to come together, to celebrate, to plot, to inspire. Let the cheers of Mayday’s crowd be heard throughout the city--Arts and Culture are ALIVE and well in New York!!

The Mayday Event, which has attracted crowds of several thousand people in the past, has been hosted for the last 9 years by local party collective and arts organization, Blackkat (www.blackkat.org).

Past guests include; Afrika Bamabaataa, DJ Red Alert, Frankie Bones, Lenny Dee, Carlos Soulslinger, Jazzy J and many more.

PEACE OUT!!

Visiting New York

Hi, I am visiting New York at the end of May. I have never been before. As an urbanite of the world's second best city (san francisco), I would love to hear some recommendations from some locals. My wife and I love food, cocktails and nightlife. We will probably be there over memorial day weekend.

What are your favorite bars, restaurants and clubs at the moment?

The W Hotels don't actually look too expensive for NYC. Any other suggestions? Want to keep it under $400/night.

Any sort of off-the-beaten-path recommendations?

thanks!
-troy

Moving to NYC

So after many years of saying "im moving to New York" I finally am. People that have only visited are very excited and happy for me, and this encourages me. BUT people that have moved here (I live in Southern Calif) from New York look at me like I am crazy, and then follow up that look with:
Why would you leave the beach? The weather sucks, cockroaches, rats, high rent, you will make no money. The list goes on and on. My question is, is it that hard to move there? Find an OK place to live. Survive the weather? ANy move is scary, and I have moved quite a bit for work. I work in publishing so NY is where I feel I can really learn something.

I don't know what I am looking for here, maybe just some honesty...

Creating an NYC Night Shift Workers Tribe (maybe)

Why maybe?: I am unfamiliar with NYC. Maybe there is a sufficient social life for night shift workers, maybe not. If not then please read my message.

my use of "Night shift": approximately 10PM-7AM

Greetings from Austin, TX. I'll keep this brief: I want one of you, or a few of you, to create a tribe for NYC night shift workers and work to promote it. It is a great community service project. I worked the night shift for 6 months in Seattle, and I have talked to a few other people here in Austin who have worked the shift and I promise you that most know of the shift as being quite miserable. Books, movies, and video games, and the like, are not sufficient for people working the shift. People are social but the night shift generally does not allow people to be social enough. Fixing this problem would help society: the shift is necessary for businesses to function well, but the workers of the shift are often neglected. Here is my tribe URL for Austin night shift workers: tribes.tribe.net/answ1 Feel free to use the layout.

Promoting: I advertised in the Austin Chronicle for 2 weeks. It was an unsuccessful ad, but I think the problem is that Austin does not have enough businesses open during the 2AM-6AM hours.
Solution for Austin: I think that what people in Austin need for developing a social life for night shift workers is successful models. NYC is a larger city that probably has many businesses open for night shift workers. A tribe that caters to the night shift will help workers of the shift and businesses. Proper businesses can promote events such as the broadcasting of a rugby match @ 4AM @ such-and-such deli.

Thanks for your time,
Matt

Strangely enough, perhaps, I don't really find it funny. I'm not shocked. More melancholy and slightly hurt. It doesn't have enough of an ironic distance for me so that I can laugh. It really seems like a straight-up guide for frightened white suburban visitors to our city.

I am glad he made it though. Just one more comment in the continuing dialog between whites and POC in this city, part of why I find this place so wonderful. Most places there's no such dialog.

Shake ur boot-tay w/o breakin the bank

Would love to know where (Brooklyn or Manhattan) one can go on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday and dance to some solid beats without having to pay the astronomical door fee.

I have no problem paying for drinks but the mandatory door charge is ridiculous.

Thanking you in advance for the low-down.

If you could let me/us know what the music is like too that’d be superb.

Be well & happy New Year. Peace --N.

There is an abandoned little plot of land on my block in which people have taken to dumping their trash. Every once in a while the sanitation department comes and cleans it out. I would really like to start a little community garden there come warm weather time. Does anyone know anything about how to find out who owns the land? Have any experience with starting a community garden? Suggestions?

Dances of Vice Festival - Gothic Victorian costumed ball New York

Salut! I'm Shien Lee, an event promoter in New York City - and I would like to invite all modern dandies, decadents, aesthetes, artists, thinkers, and dreamers to join us on February 8th and 9th for the 2008 Dances of Vice Festival in New York City! While our regular monthly events are grounded in the 1920-30s, the 2008 Dances of Vice Festival will have a distinctly neo-Victorian flair.

Rasputina will be headlining the festival in the exciting context of a neo-Victorian costumed ball, which will largely appeal to the gothic Victorian, neo-Victorian, steampunk, lolita, vintage lifestyle, glamor, and alternative subculture demographics. Come show off your lovely vintage attire and try your luck at our costume contest, featuring a number of lovely Victorian hats and accessories as the prizes.

The festival will feature a number of vendors, an art gallery, a vintage Polaroid photo booth, puppet operettas, a costume contest, and much more.

Event flyers can be found on my profile, and festival details can be located at www.dancesofvice.com

Limited quantity VIP tickets are on sale now at the website! Hope to meet some of you there!

So, my b/f is coming in from Seattle on T-day, and staying through Dec 9th. I will have enough money to feed us, and that's about it. He's an artist (illustration), and possibly a big a geek/nerd as me. (He used to say working at WotC was his geek-trump-card, but he's freelance now, so ha-ha!)

Anyrate. Does anyone know of any events going on around the city, (or since I've only been here a year, it's quite possible there's options that are ever-available that I'm just not aware of) during that time-frame that would be fun, and if not free, damn cheap?

We're probably going to go to the La Superette ( http://www.lasuperette.org/home.php ), and maybe the Brooklyn Museum, and Central Park is always a must. . . but, ideas would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS!

WAVEWHORE
Broke Recordings - BreaksFM - Electrofly Records - BombTraxx – Nexus Artists - NYC

With releases on high profile record labels such as Broke, BreaksFM, Electrofly and BombTraxx, New York City based Wavewhore is quickly building a reputation as one to watch in the global breakbeat community. His skills behind the decks have also led to headlining appearances across the US and in Europe and he has appeared as a guest on Annie Nightingale’s show on BBC Radio 1 London, Jay Cunning’s Breakbeat Sessions on KISS FM London and Liquid Todd’s radio show on WKTU 103.5 FM New York. In addition, Wavewhore is a resident at the Sullivan Room, one of New York City’s premier underground venues, and he regularly hosts ‘The Audio Tactics Sessions’ on the Breakspoll award-winning BreaksFM internet station (www.breaksfm.com). He has been called a “breakbeat master” by Liquid Todd and “one of the USA’s finest breakbeat DJ/producers” by Jay Cunning and www.breakbeatonline.com even went so far as to call him “NYC’s finest export since the Beastie Boys!”.

Wavewhore began his career as a heavy metal guitarist performing in clubs while he was still in high school and his first electronic release dates back to 1992. In 2007, Wavewhore was nominated for the Breakthrough Producer category at the annual Breakspoll Awards in London and his cutting edge music has received high level support from many of the top names in the business including Aquasky, General Midi, DJ Icey, The Autobots, The Freestylers, Elite Force, Drumattic Twins and many more. As a musician, he stands apart in his ability to produce a wide variety of styles within the breaks genre with quality results. His diversity in production also carries into his DJ sets which blend many styles of breaks from funk to bassline to tech into powerful and effective mixes that whip the dance floor into a frenzy.

Wavewhore’s name is derived from his addiction to manipulating audio waveforms and from all appearances he promises to be an inspiring force in electronic dance music. For more information visit www.wavewhore.com or www.myspace.com/wavewhore

WES SMITH
Juice Recordings - NYC

Wes Smith is the cosmically funky frontman, DJ and remixer behind New York City based record label Juice Recordings and the now defunct Juiced NYC event. He has played all over the world including gigs at Ministry of Sound UK with the Eden Collective, made countless trips to the decks at Scott Henry's BUZZ/Cubik DC and spun the wheels of steel in Southern India at Pasha several times. For more information, visit www.juicerecordings.com

3L3TRONIC
Excursion - Disorient – NYC

There is no way of guessing by their name 3L3TRONIC (pronounced Three-L-Three-Tronic), just how much juice DJs Vitamindevo and Bianca Dino pack into their collective. Each entertainer has enough clout on their own to entertain a huge audience, so why the combination? Two is better than one! Together, these performance DJs deliver high-octane tag-team sets, electrifying vocals, and live elements that make them incredibly new and exciting. Their sound and style are unique and different, combining fresh underground beats with hot vocal riffs and melodies along with custom tweaks and twists.

If music is about communication, then these two use all the mediums. They produce visual entertainment as well as intense sound quality. “We picture ourselves as people dancing in the crowd when we DJ and make music. We put everything into our performances and that is what they are... performances. We expend all of our energy and we receive tons of energy back from doing that. It's about passion…" With their upcoming album in the works, expect to hear unreleased tracks for your aural pleasure.

HI-FI
Brooklyn Bass – NYC

Hailing from Brooklyn, HI-FI has involved himself in the New York City breaks scene since 2001. Residing briefly in South Florida his involvement in electronic music blossomed after being introduced to the hard electro scene that was dominating the dance floors at that time. Gradually, he made the leap from fan to breaks promoter and hosted events in the Ft. Lauderdale area in the late 90's. Once stationed in New York City, his focus shifted behind the turntables and his style of electro-funk and bass-line breaks sets has been tearing up the dance floors ever since.

MADmuseum exhibit opening

Anyone going to the Museum of Arts & Design's new exhibit opening tomorrow evening? I used to intern there, and it's an interesting museum with great people. It's right across the street from MoMA.

Their new exhibit is "Pricked! Extreme Embroidery." It's a follow-up from the excellent "Radical Lace and Subversive Knitting" show they put on some time ago. I hope to see some of you there tomorrow; some of the artists will be present, and the curator will be giving a talk. There will also be refreshments, I think.

Here is the website of the museum if anyone is interested:

Blu-Ray rentals in NYC?

Can anyone recommend a video store in NYC, other than Blockbuster, that rents movies in Blu-Ray? I'm actually in Astoria, but I figure I'm not going to find anything there, so recommendations in Manhattan would be fine.

Thanks in advance!

NYMAA General Assembly 9, NYC, Oct 28. Dont miss it!

Mark your calendars! NYMAA General Assembly #9, Sunday, October 28th, 2007.

_______

Calling all anarchists, anti-authoritarians, horizontalists, and grassroots activists! Come join us as we plant the seeds of the anarchist century!

Mark your calendars: You are cordially invited to the Ninth General Assembly of the New York Metro Alliance of Anarchists / Alianza de anarquistas del área metropolitana de Nueva York (NYMAA).

Date: Sunday, October 28th, 2007
Time: 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Place: The Red Root Community Space, 2407 3rd Avenue, Suite 3R, Bronx, NY (see directions below)

On March 4, 2006, 65 radicals, revolutionists, and anarchists came together in an historic gathering and founded an explicitly anarchist organization--the first of its kind in NYC in nearly 100 years! Since then, much has been accomplished, yet much more must be done in order to forge a lasting anti-authoritarian presence on the streets of New York.

In order for the ideas of horizontalism and revolution to firmly take root among broad swaths of people, anarchists need to band together for the purpose of initiating and nurturing a wide range of projects. NYMAA's aim is to help build momentum and contribute to a genuine movement of resistance and liberation that can ultimately uproot the brutality of authoritarianism, capitalism, and oppression.

Along those lines, NYMAA has arguably initiated the largest upswing in anarchist organizing that this city has seen in a very long time, marking as its accomplishments a number of ongoing projects, groups, and campaigns. This is truly a historic time, as we continue to build anarchist communities and projects while connecting and facilitating communication with other radical and revolutionary groups and organizations.

You can read more about NYMAA and familiarize yourself with its basic organizational structure (we strongly encourage this) by visiting: http://www.nymaa.org

Proposals and other agenda items for the General Assembly are welcomed. Please e-mail them along with any RSVPs (especially if you're bringing
kids!) to: nymaa-comms [at] riseup [dot] net

Food and beverages, as well as childcare, will also be provided.

History / Herstory in the making! Don't miss it! See you there!

_______

Directions to the Red Root Community Space: Take the 4/5/6 to 138th Street in the Bronx. Walk to 3rd Avenue. If you took the 4/5, turn right onto 3rd Avenue from 138th Street. Coming from the 6, turn left onto 3rd Avenue. Walk four blocks until you get to Dimitri's Garden Center, on the right-hand side of the street.

I live in Brooklyn, so a New York Cares Day team based there would be preferable.

Looking for a jeweler

I'm looking for a goldsmith or jeweler, probably independent, that does unique pieces with inlaid gold wire (specifically rings- like for a wedding). A friend has a ring made by him, gold, and inset into the band (between raised rails of probably cast gold) are various shapes that are made from small pieces of gold and gold wire. It is predominantly yellow gold, but the inlay work has rose and white gold pieces- triangles, squares, and sections of gold wire laid in amongst the shapes) as part of the design. The pieces are by their nature, one of a kind.

I know he was active in NY probably 10 years ago, but have not had much luck with google (and of course my friend doesn't recall the name).

Any help anyone can provide in locating this particular jeweler, or where I can look for a comprehensive directory of jewelers or small shop goldsmiths in NY would be much appreciated. Please email me or post back here! Thanks!

The New York Metro Alliance of Anarchists' Propaganda & Arts working group, in conjunction with The Red Root Community Space, is proud to bring you:

Spook de Bronx!

A fundraiser/movie night/party/sleepover extravaganza!

Join us to raise money for NYMAA's Props Crew, as they begin planning for a massive citywide speaking tour to kick off in the spring. Also, be one of the first people to get your hot little hands on the new, limited-edition @narchist Panther t-shirt, along with other dope NYMAA swag like buttons, patches, and more t-shirts.

We'll be screening "The Spook Who Sat By the Door," which is an amazing film based on Sam Greenlee's brilliant novel of the same name. "Spook" details the rise and fall of a black CIA agent who quits the Agency to use his espionage skills to raise an urban guerrilla army in the ghettos of Chicago. What could be more fun than watching ex-gang members sticking it to the pigs, the National Guard, and the Amerikkkan establishment? Did we mention Herbie Hancock did the soundtrack?

Hang out after the film for drinks and dancing (bring playlists on your mp3 players!), and if you're bicycle-inclined, bring a sleeping bag and sleep over so you can get a head start on Sunday's Tour de Bronx bike
ride.

When: Saturday, October 20, 2007, 7:00 p.m. "Spook" will begin promptly at 8:30 p.m.

Where: The Red Root Community Space, 2407 3rd Avenue, Suite 3R, Bronx, NY
How: Admission is on a $5-$20 sliding scale. Pay $20 and you drink for free all night long.

Why: Because we need a bit of fun every now and then, and making decent propaganda ain't cheap.

Directions: Take the 4/5/6 to 138th Street in the Bronx. Walk to 3rd Avenue. If you took the 4/5, turn right onto 3rd Avenue from 138th Street. Coming from the 6, turn left onto 3rd Avenue. Walk four blocks until you get to Dimitri's Garden Center, on the right-hand side of the street.

My LG 8300 got wet, and then died. It dried out, now it works only if plugged into a charger. I went to a Verizon store, they refused to even test a new battery in the phone, saying the phone was damaged and I had to buy a new phone or upgrade my plan to get a free phone. Yeah, the dots were pink.
Anyone have any experience with water and this phone?

MEAT KATIE
www.lot49.co.uk - www.myspace.com/meatkatie1 - www.meatkatie.com - UK

South West London’s Mark Pember (AKA Meat Katie) has had a long history in dance music and has recorded for such prestigious labels such as Wall of Sound (as founding member of Ceasefire), R&S Records (as Avenue A), and, in his first record deal, Iggy Pop’s Kill City Records (as a bass player for 3 piece skate punk band Sandladder). During his time he has worked with or remixed for Arthur Baker, U.N.K.L.E., Boy George, Deep Dish, Chicken Lips, Robbie Rivera, James Zabelia, to name but a few.

Meat Katie has made a name for himself as one of the world’s leading DJ / Producers and those who have seen him perform will know that it is his diversity and energy that has earned him such respect. His tough & techy style has seen him headline sets across the globe and support live acts such as Chemical Brothers, Bassment Jaxx, Represent and Infusion. He even recently played on the Valve Soundsystem as one of the only non-Drum‘n’Bass DJs to ever do so. Over the last year, Mark has also worked on an audio visual show along side VJ Anyone (rated No. 3 in the World) and together they have taken their unique show to clubs such as Fabric, Urban Gorilla, Technique and festivals such as Glastonbury, Glade and Diverse Editions.

Not satisfied with being a world class DJ / Producer, Mark has also found time to set up and run his own label, Lot 49 Records with Dylan Rhymes, who he shares a studio space with in London. The Lot 49 imprint has without a doubt sustained its reputation as being a taste-making label, with over 25 releases featuring artists such as Vandal, 30Hz, D. Ramirez, Elite Force, Dexter, Jono Fernandez, Lee Coombs, Marco Bailey, James Talk, Alex Metric, Lützenkirchen, Evil 9 and of course, Meat Katie & Dylan Rhymes.

Wes Smith is the cosmically funky frontman, DJ and remixer behind Juice Recordings and the now defunct Juiced NYC event in the East Village. He has played at Ministry of Sound UK with the Eden Collective, made countless trips to the decks at Scott Henry's BUZZ/Cubik DC and spun the wheels of steel in Southern India at Pasha several times. We are about half way through our first ever national tour and would love to see some familiar faces at our NY stop. We'll be at the Knitting Factory on October 8. It's only $10.

Greetings NYC burners! www.Streetfilms.org is working on a short documentary covering the pedestrian and cyclist nature of burning man in conjunction with Astor Playa Camp.
While i managed to get some great footage and photo's while i was out there, i also had to run a cinema dome for the camp and fight those amazing dust storms. I'm still in need of some more b roll of street signs, people on bikes, people walking and hanging out, shots of theme camps, or shots of people hanging out near the Astor Playa camp.
If you have anything you would like to gift, it would be a great way to help spread the word about how our great city can benefit from some lessons learned out on the Playa.
All of our films are managed under the Creative Commons license and is free to the public. If interested. Contact Nick at nwhitaker@openplans.org

Captain Zorikh's Lost Guitar

We can call this story "If it could happen to anyone, why did it happen to me?"

There are 8 million stories in the naked city. Some of them intertwine and intersect. I am sending this message in the hope that in a week of entwining intersections, there can be just one more that can help me get my guitar back.

Captain Zorikh did it again. After an enjoyable evening at the Church of Pop website launch party (http://www.thechurchofpop.com , a very interesting event of multi-media art and entertainment), I headed home on the L train at about 12:15 with every intention of getting home and working on my Captain Marvel Culture website (http://www.captainmarvelculture.com). I had my Washburn acoustic guitar in its black Manny's Music gig bag on my back, but took it off so I could stand up and distribute a few flyers for the Big Apple Convention coming up on November 16-17-18 (http://www.bigapplecon.com). I sat back down when I was done and pulled out a copy of Avengers #191 to read for the rest of the brief journey. When I got to the Montrose Ave stop, I got up and walked out. I stopped at the deli outside the subway exit, and, after ordering a roast beef sandwich (lettuce, tomato and mustard, on a roll), I realized...I didn't have my guitar.

I rushed back down to the subway platform and told the token booth attendant (I'm sorry, I'll always call them that. Just nostalgic, I guess) who did yeoman service making phone calls to let the conductor know that I had left my guitar in the train and to see if he could find it. After an interminable wait, the word was...no guitar.

It's a very horrible feeling to realize one has lost his guitar. This guitar has been a significant part of my livelihood for the past few years. It is one of the few purchases I have made that has paid for itself, many times over. It has helped me get through rough emotional times and helped me communicate my joy with other people. I also ned it for a gig this coming weekend at Jeff Mach's Labyrinth http://www.wickedfaire.com/labyrinth/index.html
But also with the guitar was the case it was carried in, and in that case were extra strings, two harmonicas and a harmonica holder, a capo, extra picks, loose change from busking, and a dozen or so Watch This Space comics, various issues, for me to sell.

It was a dumb, simple, way of forgetting it. Such a significant loss for such a miniscule payoff.

So I guess three things could have happened. 1) a good Samaritan now has my guitar and is going through my extra strings, harmonica, loose change from busking (all the foreign coins and amusement park slugs that get tossed in) and dozen or so copies of my Watch This Space comics to find contact info to get the guitar back to its rightful owner or 2) they turned it in to a station attendant who will turn it in to the MTA lost & found or 3) they are keeping it for themselves, thus saving $350 on a very good-sounding guitar (despite some wear and tear). There is also the possibility that it was kidnapped by aliens, but that's not very likely and I don't accept it. If it had been taken for an "unattended package" then the train line would have been shut down and I would know exactly where it is.

So, over the course of this week I have met one person from my alma mater, the School of Visual Arts, one person who is an artist who regularly goes to the Big Apple Convention, and two people that I have known through William Shakespeare's Haunted House, and one who I first met in the SCA, then later when she was working at Belvedere Castle when WSHH was performing there, then again when she turned out to be a friend of a co-worker at Anchor Network, then again when she was waitressing at Veselka. With all these coincidences, I can only hope for just one more, the coincidence that one of you within the sound of my voice knows the person, or is the person, who picked up my guitar that I lest on the L train heading for Broadway Junction at Montrose Ave at about 12:20 in the morning of Saturday night/ Saturday morning September 23-23.

You can see a picture of the guitar at http://www.myspace.com/captainzorikhmusic

On Monday I will call the MTA's Lost & Found. When I have the results of that investigation, or if somehow my guitar gets back to me sooner, I will let you all know.

I won't send out a "please buy my products at http://www.captainzorikh.com/wts/catalogue.html or buy something from Amazon.com by clicking on the Amazon.com link on almost any page of my website http://www.captainzorikh.com and help me get a new guitar" message until after I have determined that the guitar is actually lost and gone forever.

Hey everyone...

I was looking up some stuff to do in the next few weeks since I have family coming in to visit and 20at20 is back. For any of you who don't know what I am talking about then google it but you can see almost any off-broadway show for $20 bucks 20 mins before the show at the box office. They have some great shows on the site. So if someone is board of the day in and day out go check out a show...5 shows gets you free dinner! yay!

Night of 1000 Goddesses returns!

Greetings!

ChoveXani Ethnic theater and dance is pleased to present its second year of Night of 1000 GOddesses.

Imagine a world where the hopes, dreams, loves, and loss of women are played out on stage....imagine a world where warrioresses, witches, demons and dreamers are portrayed by some of the finest ethnofusion dancers in the country. This is the story of Night of 1000 Goddesses....

As conceived by ChoveXani's artistic director, the theater work centers on one idea: interpreting the word "goddess." The ensuing dance acts are as varied as each dancer...from the ancient, sublime, and futuristic...each dance tells a unique story.

If you'd like to see what this looks like, here is last year's video: www.chovexani.com/2007video

July events in the city... beyond july 4th fireworks

JULY

1 Pool party! Even if the pool doesn’t have any, um, water in it. The indie-rock favorites Illinois, Man Man, and Dengue Fever play McCarren Park Pool, in Brooklyn.

2 They call it “theatrobatics.” The Spiegeltent, at the Seaport, presents La Vie, a Montreal show that’s part theater, part aerial acrobatics. You know, theatrobatics.

3 Lindyhop at Lincoln Center plaza during Midsummer Night Swing’s Big Band Tuesday.

4 Celebrate America’s independence with Canadian indie rockers the New Pornographers in Battery Park.

5 Brooklyn’s Latin-surf-popsters Chicha Libre cross the river to play Joe’s Pub.

6 Try to squeeze into Bryant Park to hear Norah Jones; then cool down at a late screening of Joshua, the indie thriller about the perfect Manhattan family gone wrong.

7 Artisans and experts at the American Cheese Summit go way beyond Kraft, at the East Village’s Neighborhood Preservation Center.

8 MoMA’s Sunday Summergarden series starts among the Serras, with performers from Jazz at Lincoln Center and Juilliard.

9 Patti LuPone. Gypsy. City Center. Need we say more?

10 Fables de la Fontaine, an interpretation of works by the poet, opens the Lincoln Center Festival. But then there’s the Summer Play Festival of offbeat works about love and laundry (Unfold Me) and auto racing (Vrooommm! A NAScomedy).

11 Explore the fog of another war at David Epstein’s Surface to Air, about a family whose son’s remains return from Vietnam long after his death, at Symphony Space.

12 Meet li’l socialites at the Met’s Young Members Party, for well-heeled 21- to 35-year-olds, in the museum’s European-sculpture court and roof garden.

13 Think of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, in theaters now, as a refresher course for next week’s final Potter book.

14 Off with a buck-and-wing: It’s the final day of the Tap City Festival at the Duke on 42nd Street.

15 At Bronx Zoo’s The Great Return: The Astor Court Renaissance, the sea lions and monkeys move back into their lovely renovated home.

16 Can one say a twee throwback combo might “rock”? If so, the Decemberists will rock SummerStage, with Grizzly Bear and Land of Talk.

17 The NY Philharmonic’s Concerts in the Parks wrap up with a night of Strauss and more on the Great Lawn. 8 p.m.; best to arrive by 6.

18 MoMA’s Lost Vanguard: Soviet Modernist Architecture, 1922–1932 shows off the handsome buildings of the early U.S.S.R.

19 The flamboyant, glammy Detroit rockers Electric Six play aboard the Temptress, leaving from 41st Street on the West Side.

20 A multiplex traffic jam: Adam Sandler’s gay-marriage comedy I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry; John Travolta in drag in Hairspray; Sunshine, about a space crew that has to reignite the sun; and Natalie Portman in Goya’s Ghosts, as the artist’s mistress. All open.

21 A full day at Coney: The Siren Music Festival brings in Williamsburg duo Matt and Kim plus the seasoned New York Dolls. Then stay for a showing of the deathless 1988 film Killer Klowns From Outer Space.

22 Cheer for someone far fitter than you, at the New York City Triathlon.

23 Restaurant Week starts: Five days of $24.07 lunches and $35 dinners (see list at nycvisit.com).

24 Add to your list of beach reads The Complete Stories of David Malouf, a collection of tales set mainly in Australia, and Ruth Rendell’s mysterious, elegant The Water’s Lovely.

25 Bassist Pablo Aslan’s Avantango headlines the first day of the JPMorgan Chase Latino Cultural Festival, at Queens Theatre in the Park.

26 BAM brings in the Memphis harmonica master James Cotton for a free concert at Metrotech.

27 The Simpsons Movie finally arrives, eighteen seasons in. Shouldn’t Lisa be in college by now?

28 Rage Against the Machine, Wu-Tang Clan, and Public Enemy open the Rock the Bells hip-hop festival over two days.

29 Shakespeare in the other park: Hudson Warehouse stages As You Like It at 89th Street and Riverside.

30 Please forget the Sean Penn remake. See 1949’s All the King’s Men, at dusk in Bryant Park.

31 Mostly Mozart starts with a week focusing on … Beethoven. (They did say mostly.)
