A lot of fruit juices, most notably pineapple, do seem to sweeten the taste. A fruit smoothie a couple of hours beforehand seems to help most. I, too, haven't noticed a difference between male vegetarians/vegans and carnivores (women veggies taste more watery). I DID notice that smokers are more bitter.
