Anyone have a resource for information on older REI bicycles? This bike looks to be around 20+ years old and has aged good components and a really nice frame on it...I'm thinking of fixing it up to be my primary road bike but specs would help (or maybe me getting a caliper might help too).

Re: Novara Nova?
Wed, June 4, 2008 - 2:29 AMStill no technical info on this bike but...
The Nova been almost completely overhauled now and the only things vintage on it left are the front shifter, the forks, and the frame. I even put a wider crank axle in the bottom bracket so I could put on a three gear crank set. Now, with aluminum 700 refurbed rims, the configuration is currently 52-40-26 in front and 7-sprockets in the back on an old HyperGlide hub. Some guy who was leaving the state donated a classic Deore LX derailler and four LX brake arms. I put a found, cheap metallic powder-blue road seat on the post, snazzy! I'm fairly happy with the bike in the current bull-horn configuration.
This bike has now done bikepacking trips and I am continuing to modify it. The frame ain't pretty and it looks like a frankenbike--will post pictures of when I get a chance...but I'm loving this bike...to the point where I think I've put almost $100 into it over the past few months (new chain, new rear sprocket, a pedal replacement, new serious road/gravel tires, etc). Street Level Cycles, in Berkeley, have been encouraging me to dip the frame but I think the bike is safer when the frame looks like crap; I don't bike to please the neighbors. (Thanks, Chris, for those donated yeti bar grips!)
Recently, I rode this bike from Pittsburg BART to Sacramento. It also worked almost fine on a bikepacking trip to Booneville and back. Ah, the adventures I've had and still foresee for my found Nova.
And a new 55lb rack has just arrived from the factory as of today...I'm keen on travelling on this bike! With three rings in front, it can easily climb and the gear ratios give me an easy 17 mph on the long haul...that's only three to four hours ride from Berkeley to Mt. View...now if I just had a more comfortable seat...
